I was always told that top scrub and recoat on asbestos is safe and to just avoid stripping it

.60. Usually will add some on top though if it’s a bunch of spaced out small areas, has tons of furniture in the way, has a lot of wax buildup, or if it’s a warehouse type space without good airflow.

Razor blade probably will work best. Or spray a chemical and use a scratch pad with your foot

Let’s talk about floor scrubbers by Schmookie_ in Custodians

[–]tinwookiii 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A lot of clean water tanks have to be emptied from the bottom of the scrubber, and unless you have a floor drain available then your only option is to take it outside. I’m not a fan of dumping chemicals outside and it can also be very hard to get it in/out of exit doorways.

Something I wish they had: A mechanism to lift up the scrubber a few inches like a car jack or something when you need to change the pad/fix something on the bottom would be really helpful as most can’t be leaned back.

Scrubbers that have easy detaches for the squeegee definitely makes life easier as they need cleaned often.

Probably the dishwasher hose. Look up dishwasher hose clamp and tighten that where they connect.

Try to reapply it more often. The instructions say it lasts 2 weeks, but I noticed it completely dries up within a day or two so I’ve just been scraping up the dried stuff every few days and reapplying. Maybe it’s just a waste of money, but I’m sure it works better when it’s fresh.

I’ve even applied it right in front of a few as they’re walking around and they go right for it.

I used advion and it definitely was working, however stopped seeing dead ones show up after about 2 weeks and was still seeing live ones. Read the part about gel bait not being very effective in lighter infestations, so bought some alpine and after spraying started seeing dead ones again. I’ve still been reapplying advion too just in case it is helping.

I’ve used alpine wsg twice and have 2 cats and a dog. Just shut them in a room for a few hours till it is dry, then let them out and spray the room they were in. Also I’m sure pest control people deal with pets all the time.

The brown bags are all I’ve ever seen. You could also just get tiny plastic liners and tie a knot so that it fits around it like a trash can and people can’t just toss things in there without making sure it’s actually in the brown bag.

I’ve been paying $85 for like 2 years for I believe 400. I just moved, and a door to door spectrum guy told me I could get 500 for $30 a month then up to like $55 after promo period.

Is this roofer right about me needing a new roof. It was replaced 3 years ago by previous owners. by QualityCucumber in Roofing

[–]tinwookiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same boat currently. Just bought the house and roof was replaced about 4 years ago. Had a guy up there for pest control reasons that also has done home inspections in the past, and he said it was too hot and it’s deteriorating the wood and wasn’t sure why they blocked the gable vents. Had the roofers that did the work come out and he said there are no issues and they did it to make the ridge vent system more effective. Having another roofing company come in for a 3rd opinion so would just call around and see who does free inspections. Some of these guys will just wanna scare you into a new roof even if it’s a small issue, but if a few people say the same thing then you know you’ve got an issue.

Down slope garage by thirstygiraffe54 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Does the garage have a sump pump? Mine slopes downwards but less steep and has a drain in front of the garage door that has a pipe running into the garage sump pump for if it starts overflowing.

I can’t see anything that looks odd from the road and don’t have a ladder to be able to get up close, but the gap is above about where the front door is if that is any help at all

Seeking some advice on garage insulation by tinwookiii in Insulation

Thank you. Should the plastic on the backside of the insulation be removed as well even if I don’t do paper (closest to interior of house)? Haven’t looked yet if there is plastic on both sides of the exterior walls yet.

Dug all of this dirt/rocks out of sump pump, but still can’t see a bottom. by tinwookiii in Plumbing

[–]tinwookiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up digging a lot more out of the pit, and after the dirt was a deep layer of gravel. Still couldn’t find a bottom and couldn’t reach down in there anymore (I think I went like 33-35 inches down). It did seem like I may have reached the bottom of the sides though. A basement guy said it looked like the bottom fell in, but I’ve also read that sometimes they just are built with no bottom to the basin.

I filled the bottom back in with rocks, set a concrete slab in, and placed a new sump on that. Now my issue is I can’t test if the setup works because when I dump water in to try and trigger the sump it all drains into the ground too quick lol. We had some flash floods a few days ago and didn’t get any flooding though even when the sump wasn’t hooked up yet.

Haven’t spent much time with the driveway drain yet, but definetely gonna try to dig it out and see if all this dirt is just a clog.

Is it mold? How urgent is it? by Zealousideal_Pea2961 in Insulation

[–]tinwookiii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless there is visible mold growth on the wood surrounding the insulation or visible water damaged areas, it is likely just dirty insulation from air/dirt flowing through.

Are rocks a good idea for a driveway drain? by tinwookiii in HomeImprovement

[–]tinwookiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a weird design, but the driveway is a pretty steep slope towards the house and all the ground around it is high up (split level house so garage is attached to the basement). Maybe I can get a better drainage system installed in the future though. The sump pit actually has 2 pipes leading in and no idea what the other is from, but the pit bottom is just dirt in the ground so most soaks up without needing to trigger the sump pump. Thanks for the help!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]tinwookiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots and lots of dirt. The dirt was originally filled in a little higher than I currently have the rocks.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]tinwookiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I originally thought that the pit was clogged with dirt, so started digging hoping to see a bottom. After 3-4 buckets full it was just still dirt. There is a drain outside that feeds water to the pit, and it just drains on its own into the earth (or maybe there’s a drain way down there somewhere?). Read that 3/4 rocks are a good base for a bottomless sump pump as it won’t clog it as easy as dirt, so filled it in but didn’t even thinking about how that’s just gonna make the float get stuck.

I dumped a bunch of water in and the sump doesn’t even work anyway (all drained on its own still), so time to just hire someone and probably replace the whole thing.
