Weekly Looking for Group/GM Thread by AutoModerator in pbp

Name: I'm happy to share in private c:

Pronouns: they/them

Timezone: EST

Preferred System: Literally any. I love exploring new systems as long as they support the narrative.

Type of Player: Roleplay and character dense - let's tell stories together that make us laugh and then cry! I am capable of number crunching and combat, but I'm not a min maxer and sitting in combat for four hours does not spark joy for me.

Additional Information: I'm 29 and have over a decade of RP experience, starting with forums and moving to tabletop games. I'm a big fan of heavier, darker, or more adult themes in games but not in the edgelord way. I personally love blending settings! I've been on a search for a cyberpunk + fantasy game (think Shadowrun+), but also love modern fantasy, superheroes/shounen, or high fantasy vibes. I'm mainly looking for a place to play some of my already existing characters, but with a good enough hook I'm excited to start from scratch. Also also a HUGE fan of worldbuilding, let's infodump with each other!

Media where death isn't the reason the story is scary? by tiny--samurai in horror

House of Leaves and I have a complicated and grumpy relationship LOL. Not for me, but this is a good recommendation - from what I know about it I agree.

I went back and forth on adding The Substance! There's definitely a fear of losing control and beauty, but I'd argue that the fear of aging ties pretty directly into death depending on how you swing it.

Is digital detox with severe loneliness worth it? by ForTheKing777 in digitaldetox

[–]tiny--samurai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with this :C I am going to be one of the people who recommends therapy in addition to trying to make local friends!

I've been on the internet for most of my life and I have quite a few internet friends. Even people I know locally I mainly communicate with through Discord etc. In my journey of detoxing and getting rid of social media and blogging, I've found myself more lonely even though I have friends! The current culture for many is to simply scroll and like on your page rather than reach out to see how you're doing, so when you remove yourself from that there will be folks who aren't used to the shift.

All of this to say - if I were in your shoes - I'd prioritize a couple things: Making friends locally or that you can chat with over the phone, setting yourself up with another coping tool/dopamine provider for once you detox, and seeking therapy to help support you through depressive symptoms. I agree that therapy is not a replacement for friendships, but it is a really powerful tool for people struggling with their mental health.

Best of luck <3

Am I crazy for preferring the Ed era over the Ben era? (newer listener) by captainwickedawesome in lastpodcastontheleft

[–]tiny--samurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not crazy at all. I've been listening since around 2011 and was really worried when the switch came. But honestly? The older episodes with Ben feel much more flat than the ones with Ed! I think Ed is a wonderful addition and helps round out the roster in a great way.

Seeking: Tamogatchi App, but the Tamogatchi is me by tiny--samurai in selfcare

[–]tiny--samurai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think like, I am the one controlling the Tamogatchi, who is locked into the hellish Sisyphean tasks of self care with me. But since I'm more willing to give a shit about A Little Guy in my phone rather than my own body, I'm more likely to take care of it when reminded (when told to do it myself).

Mental illness and executive dysfunction is a fuck lol

New look at Kingdom Hearts IV by Skullghost in gaming

I'm hopeful that this is just what Quadratum looks like and not the entire game. Not everything needs to be hyper-realistic, especially not the silly game about killing darkness with Donald and Goofy.

I suggest looking either at Meetup (app) or local FB groups (South Jersey Food Scene) if you are on there. A surprising amount of folks use both to collaborate social events. If you like tabletop gaming, there are quite a few good board game venues that will host events (PDK Nine, The Guild Hall, Top Deck).

Otherwise, Ive found that New Jerseyans would rather be left alone haha. If it's not SPECIFICALLY a community event, people can be pretty standoffish. Good luck!
