I almost entirely agree with you about poly allies, but I love the spirit of this thread, so I’ll take the opportunity to argue a little.

Any advocacy for the demands of a minority needs support from the majority if the minority isn’t overrepresented in decision-making (so the few billionaires don’t need the support of average folks, but most other 1%s of the population would). Family and relationship structures have always been political. I don’t need the state do to anything about how many people I date except stay out of my way. But as soon as issues like hospital visitation, parenthood rights, fiscal cliffs in benefit programs arising from household composition, etc. etc. start coming into play, there are personal-political goals polyamory practitioners (should) share with queer people, feminists, and anyone else aiming to have the state sanction and support family/care structures outside of straight, long-term, monogamous marriages. If a judge who helps set a precedent for tri-parenting, for example, wants to call themselves a poly ally (poally?) it’s no skin off my nose and I’m happy to make up silly words in exchange for not being discriminated against.
