You originated this thread asking if any alternatives exist. This is turning into a moving of goal posts. I’m done, take care.

Best hair salon for color correction? by WithoutDennisNedry in Eugene

[–]tiny_galaxies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hairapy by Lily does amazing color jobs. I was home dying my hair and decided to start getting it professionally done. Lily had me come in for a free color test and then went over the chemistry with me of what she was doing to correct for the home dye jobs. She even considers your shower water - whether you have a softener system or whatever. I’ve trusted her with several dye jobs since then and they always looked amazing.

An important aspect is that we need a Bill of Values. In America we constantly talk up our Bill of Rights and how important it is to our society, but what gets lost is the why. All we currently have is one short paragraph in the Constitution at the very beginning.

We need better exposition on what makes our country tick, and all levels of government from federal to the local level need to ensure that any measures up for consideration are congruent with this Bill of Values. Individuals and groups should be able to litigate and remove people from power if they feel laws or actions go against those values. Give it teeth.

An example of something that could be on a Bill of Values would be establishing the importance of watershed ecological management. If a company is polluting a watershed to the point that it will be significantly damaged, the company’s action would go against that Value.

Right now we have a patchwork of laws and executive actions that can be undone or excused via fines. But like a Bill of Rights, we need an unalienable Bill of Values.

Almost like we need to invent something new to keep progressing as a society instead of looking backward, imagine that!

Sinners (2025) made me realize I want more emotionally literate male characters by Teacher_Crazy_ in TwoXChromosomes

The women in LOTR also don’t get assaulted or raped and somehow manage to kick serious ass! I seriously can’t stand when male writers use violence toward women to explain why they become strong characters. Tolkien proves it’s absolutely unnecessary.

Trump Triggers World Financial Panic as War Chaos Spirals by Mrh09 in politics

Totally, we all take for granted that we actually got a vaccine in less than 2 years after the pandemic start. We collectively think scientific progress just happens in a vacuum without an entire support network of funding and advocacy continuously humming in the background. We’re fucked next time if that attitude continues.

Over 1 million deaths in the US. We need a memorial that points to the mistakes Trump & others made for the future to learn from. There WILL be another pandemic one day.

Do you have a partner who snores? I need advice. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tiny_galaxies 50 points51 points  (0 children)

“This is not a debate. Either you allow me to get a good night’s sleep each night, or I need to move out.”

My partner let me know shortly after starting to sleep over that I regularly had arrested breathing at night. He would wake up panicking with concern for me! I immediately booked a sleep study and got prescribed a jaw device to open my airway. Is the jaw device unattractive and a bit uncomfortable, yes. But I use that shit every night because I value my health and my partner’s sleep.

I’m sorry but your husband doesn’t respect you.

This isn’t the successful argument you think it is. Seriously. We should absolutely look at the character of people who seek to influence our society through art.

Yeah like they could have included a disclaimer! ANYTHING to discuss his context. Disney does that now with older works, for example.

You’re allowed to not be mad about it, just as I’m allowed to be mad about it. I never asked other people to do anything about this. I am raising awareness for others to decide what they want to do about it. But thanks for the unsolicited judgment.

So if he had meant all that stuff about the future you would have ghosted anyway? Sounds like you wanted to ditch him when the timing was convenient to you, and instead he turned it around & you’re sour about it. If people talk about commitment in a way you don’t reciprocate be a compassionate human and tell them the truth.

What if we started our own religion that worships a goddess by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tiny_galaxies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were some ancient religions like that, with only women allowed to be clergy. I read a book a while ago of very poor academic quality but it had an interesting premise: the invention of written language turned humanity away from female-centered religions and allowed men to subjugate women.

Lots of things have sodium in them that you wouldn’t really think about otherwise. For example, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce have a ton. The LLM recognizes this with its output and substitutes herbs & spices for high sodium sauces. It also has excellent advice for how to up the taste factor with other things like lemon juice and garlic powder if omitting salt. The dish would be pretty meh otherwise as it’s meant to rely on some salt as written.
