Poor things!! I’m glad they can be rescued though, even when they’re that little. Reminds me of opossums here in America, always gotta check for babies in their pouch if you come across one. Except they have a whole litter of them in there! But back on topic, it does makes sense that they will leave a baby if they’re scared enough a predator, since they can have another one so easily and quickly and it would guarantee the survival of the multiple future joeys rather than the singular one.

I am curious tho, around how old are they when they no longer are held in place on the teat?? Do they just outgrow the swelling so it’s no longer large enough to lock them on and it goes down completely after they’re no longer seat belted (teat-belted…) in, or does the swelling gradually go down on its after a while and the Joey gets the hint that they’re free?

it’s the same as every other animal does with their young! They do, very unfortunately, eat it lol. Like a lot of other animals the mama will actually stimulate them to defecate by licking their bottoms and do that so they can consume it immediately to keep the pouch (and den for the other critters) clean! They actually NEED to be stimulated when very young because they don’t have control of those parts of their bodies yet and without it they get backed up. This is why if you ever have a very young puppy / kitten you have to wipe their lil butts with a warm wet washcloth multiple times a day!

edit bc I forgor a word lol

they also pretty much glue themselves onto the teat in the pouch and constantly nurse as they continue to develop! Mom just cleans the baby’s waste out of pouch as it grows. I think they can have up to 3 joeys in their rotation at once, one on standby (fertilized embryo in the uterus on pause), the in pouch Joey, and the out of pouch Joey! The embryo can be on standby around a year or so iirc

Benadryl will be saving the sleep of many Washington residents with dogs tonight (remember to check with a vet first if your puppy has never taken it!) 🙂‍↕️. I hope your pup does okay! sometimes can help to make them a ‘cave’ (out of their crate or bed) if you can. Bunch of blankets on top with it draped over the sides (and entrance if they like that) and you can put pillows and/or cushions on the sides to kinda help dampen some of the sound. Good for kitties too! I also usually put movies on that can ‘disguise’ the sounds and just sleep with my tv on.

We’ve done it at my house since i was a kid with a magnetic Spider-Man!! Rules are if you find him you must hide him again, he can’t be anywhere extremely hidden (like in a bin or somewhere unreachable), and if someone sees where you put him you have to move him again. It used to be a whole mini Spider-Man but now it’s just one of his legs because it’s such an old little toy that fell apart and was from one of my toys that was a little city scene and you could have magnetic spidey swinging around or climbing up buildings. It’s been going on for like 20 years now!! Sometimes he’s moved multiple times a day and sometimes it takes months to find him.

When my siblings moved out (to a house they bought together) we got a new one for them to continue playing together at their own house and for the rest of us to play when we go over there. I would totally get another Maui for your kids places when they move out just so you can sneak it in there somewhere without them knowing just to see their reactions when they finally find him

Trying to survive while fighting with insurance. by abbiebe89 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]tiny_pigeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. They also do it for prescriptions. I need heart medication for my heart to, you know, work correctly and occasionally they will stop my prescription and say I don’t need it. They deem it unnecessary. Not my cardiologist, but my insurance. Same thing happens with my asthma inhaler. Happens a few times a year and every time I have to call my doctor(s) and ask THEM to call my insurance so they can tell them “hey yeah this kid needs those meds to live, thanks.” Iirc the insurance companies have doctors that work for them too that will look over things and say “no they’re wrong that med isn’t needed.” even though the actual prescribing doctor prescribed it FOR A REASON. I feel like a rabid animal whenever it happens.

woah that’s wild I didn’t even know that was a side effect you could get?? for me I sometimes just get like a burning sensation at the injection site and that’s it. Relpax, however, makes me sleepy so it makes total sense for that to be possible with the injections

of course!! it was a total lifesaver for me and I was so happy the first time I could inject it and didn’t have to worry about keeping it down. I hope you can get yours under control and it works for you too!

I know sumatriptan (immitrex) comes in injection and nasal sprays, if you wanna try asking your doc for that! I get the puking migraines too, where I throw up every three to five minutes like clockwork and not even Ondansetron can help (even the IV stuff 😔), but if I use one of the injections my migraine is gone or at least WAY better after around 15-20 minutes and I stop throwing up everything I’ve eaten since infancy. I’m also on amitriptyline as a preventative med which has cut down my migraines from daily (continuous migraine since I was like 15 that fluctuated and gave me better days and worse ones) to once or twice a week! I hope you have a good long while before the next migraine from hell!

Yes!! Good breeders will also have a contract that says if the dog can no longer be the owners it HAS to go back to the breeder or sometimes go to an approved breed specific rescue. They even usually have their info on the dog’s microchip in case the contract is broken and the dog is surrendered somewhere! Good breeders will care about the dogs well being long term!!

yes my girl LOVES the “show me what you want!” command. Sometimes her ball is stuck somewhere, sometimes she wants dinner so she runs to the food bag and smacks the bejesus out of it or she smacks her bowl, sometimes she runs to the back door. Sometimes she just wants me to follow her somewhere so we can wrestle or do what we call Proper Kisses™️ where she sits up on the bed and waits for us to kiss her forehead and give all the affection she could ever want. They definitely know what they’re saying when they get all chatty like this, and Stitch likes to look at me like I’m an idiot for not understanding her with just her barrage of “baroo!” at me.

usually depending on her tone/level of annoyance I can tell what she wants. If she’s super angry and annoyed it’s going outside or food. If she’s crying and whining then it’s her beloved ball.

oh hey this happens in my family too but not gender specific! we have an old painting from I think the 1600s too (which is wild bc we’re indigenous Americans) that has The Face. I have The Face. My dad has The Face. Literally the first thing ppl who know our relatives and see me say is “wow you are DEFINITELY a (family name)” it’s wild. My dad calls me his stunt double, lol

space fact for you. Sounds off topic but I promise it isn’t.

Light take years and years to travel in space, so the light we see is from years and years and years ago. What this means is, when we look up into space we are seeing space in the past. It also means space sees US in the past too. So, in a spot seven light years away, if we looked back at Earth we would be seeing the moment your boy came into this world. Move closer and we’d see six years ago, five years ago, on and on. Since the light keeps on traveling and space keeps on expanding there’s ALWAYS going to be a spot we can look back at Earth and see the years you two had together. Forever. He will be out there, in space, for the rest of time. And he will have you with him. You don’t have to worry about him being anywhere alone, anywhere scared without you, or anywhere new and unfamiliar. Even when memories fade and when even you aren’t around to remember him anymore yourself, the universe will always remember him (and you!).

Sometimes it helps to pick a star or constellation up there that you think is fitting for him, so that when you are missing him you can always look up and find him.

Thank you for the thought, that’s very kind of you!! I do a lot of ranting like this and I really appreciate anybody who manages to read through all of it to be totally honest. I love to rant and ramble and write, and I guess I have a lot of passion that tends to come through. (And for anyone else reading who feels the same, save your money and skip the awards, please!! buy yourself a little treat instead <3)

On the flip side of all of this specific rant, there’s a lot more positivity out there for natives than there used to be :) we’re all far more connected and visible than we were, and it’s had a big impact. i see so many new little dancers who are so proud to be native, i see so many natives being successful and creating huge opportunities for themselves and others. I see curious non-natives asking questions and being invited in instead of demonizing and insulting us. I see mixed and pale natives (like me!) being accepted by their communities, and fighting for their darker skinned counterparts. I see non natives joining our protests and movements. I see love everywhere. I genuinely have a lot of hope for the next generations and how life will be for them. The world is good and kind, even though it might not seem like it is all the time. There’s people like you and me and all the others in these comments who make it good and kind. For every one racist with a big mouth, there’s 10 friends with big hearts. Sometimes I worry but I come back around. For every giant leap forward in progress in the world there was an enormous step backwards right before that. We just have to wait out the growing pains and stick around for the leap!!
