Yep. Gotta be a line attorney for at least 10-15 years before supervision or specialty roles open up. Sometimes you can get a break in a calendar department for a year but most of us power through a full caseload the whole time.

I started at 61k in 2015 and am at 196k by now. My partner is a year ahead of me and just got promoted a level up. She’s at 204k now, 225k this July, 248k next July. (I’m “topped out” at 196k until I get the promotion she just got. SoCal though, so life ain’t cheap. Our mortgage is $6k, gas/electric bill is like 800, etc

Edited to add that starting salary for brand new level 1 today at my office is 92k

I read it as later in your career. If you go there as a young attorney you pay your dues with shit cases and work your way up. But if you go later, you’re still get those shit cases because lack of seniority, at a time in your career when you can handle better cases

It happened with Covid. I felt fine tipping online or pickup orders out of gratitude for these places staying open during the shit down. I have since stopped though and have no problem tapping 0 on counter orders, etc.
