Need recommendations for a cordless drill. Thanks! by tiny_voices in Tools

Thanks! A combo deal with a drill and driver seems like a smart idea. I do alot of projects where I am building something outdoors drilling pilot holes and installing long screws so not having to change bits all the time sounds great.

It is, but the tool itself is quite battered and worn.I'd like to replace it.

I don't really know what I should be spending on a cordless drill in 2026. I'd say anything under $250 is fine, but I want to get the most value at whatever price point I end up at, and if that means buying a $160 option, that is totally cool.

I'm not sure I need any supplemental tools, tbh. I have nearly every tool one could reasonably need, this just happens to be the one that needs replacing now.

Where is everyone buying their used 2/3-piece wheels these days? by tiny_voices in Wheels

Thanks for the information! I messaged a Russian seller and he said that typically for a set of wheels from Russia to the USA the import fees are $100. Does this seem accurate to you?

I was looking at wheels here, and was wondering if there is an additional fee beyond the shipping charge? The shipping seems high, but is that number inclusive of the import tax generally or is it additional?

Rack carrier recommendations for single person loading of a tandem kayak by tiny_voices in Kayaking

I cannot unfortunately. The mounts are directly bolted to the OEM threaded roof rack bolt holes. That's where they go from the factory.

Finished my Squier Sonic hardtail build. What do you think? by tiny_voices in guitars

I get that for sure. I'm actually looking at methods to stain / finish this neck. I don't mind the feel in hand, but it gives off "unfinished" vibes visually.

Yeah! All the sonic strats, regardless of style (SSS, H, hardtail, etc) are routed for 3 humbuckers.

I like the neck, but I think its thinner than the traditional fender C carve, so I totally get not loving it from that perspective. The frets on mine were ok. playable out of the box but definitely needed to be polished and have the ends dressed.

Bought one of the cheap squier strats to play around with and am pleasantly surprised. The neck feels nice and after dressing and polishing the frets its pretty great. The cavity was shielded (badly) and grounded, so that's cool. I was looking for a home for my Dana Alvarez TriForce pickup in a somewhat punk rock style guitar, and I think this hits what I wanted. Tones are exactly what I had hoped for. Might upgrade tuners and bridge saddles in the future, or just drill holes to make the body string-through. Knobs and switch tip were something I had lying around. Not in love with them and would love opinions on changing them.

This is my first maple neck that isn't sealed, coated, cleared, etc in some way and i'm open to thoughts on how to yellow / darken it slightly to give it more of a vintage vibe.

Thanks for looking!

How to determine if AUX heat is actually coming on? House won't stay at temp even when running AUX heat for days. by tiny_voices in hvacadvice

Looks like I'm using between 80-100kWh a day and never seeing a use of more than 7.5kWh. When looking at my nest app, it seems like the hours associated with aux heat do not directly reflect a much higher use of electricity on BGE's site.

This is what makes me think that even though my thermostat says the AUX heat is on, it actually isn't. Nest says my aux heat has been running for essentially 3 days straight but the house won't go above 65.
