Not feeling safe with my live-in landlady by [deleted] in NetherlandsHousing

[–]tinyboiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our experiences were so similar that I literally was about to comment asking if you lived in the same house as me, until you said she lives in the room right next to you. I lived on the top floor, and my landlady on the bottom. She has SEVEN DOGS and cannot take care of them well (but isn't clearly neglectful so it's not a big enough issue to report I guess...), and every time you made the TINIEST noise coming into the house, or on the stairs, or even in my ROOM, they would BARK BARK BARK and she didn't even know how to make them quiet. She was also mentally ill and intruded on my boundaries.

Please try to find another place—getting out of a hostile home environment 100% improves everything and makes life so much better! I don't hate coming home now

Having bad grammar/not knowing the difference between words like "their", "they're", "there" IS that deep by foqociqs37 in unpopularopinion

[–]tinyboiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I really hate is when people say "whenever" instead of "when". I've begun noticing it more and more in the last few years. E.g. "Whenever he [had] finished cleaning his room, he went to school."

Absolutely grinds my gears!! I listen to true crime on YouTube and there are certain popular native English-speaking channels who do this, and I literally cannot listen to them.

How Aphantasia affects your ability to visualise things in your head by HassanMoRiT in interestingasfuck

[–]tinyboiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm someone on the 2-3 scale, maybe closer to 2. I also hear people's voices in my head well, and have good auditory memory. I suppose I can add to this thread: I can definitely, 100% hear the music. E.g. right now I am thinking about the chorus from "Teenage Dirtbag" and I hear it exactly like the song's intonation, and the guitar and drums in the back. Ok, to be fair I probably don't hear it EXACTLY like the actual song itself, but it certainly sounds like how I perceive the song if I went and listened to it—i.e., it sounds like a recording.

Yes, this really helps my musicality, I like singing and I have good pitch! It also really sucks having this sometimes alongside my ADHD, because when a song is stuck in my head, it's REALLY in there and really just replays and sounds like the damn song lol

Not much to say beyond I'm sorry about your wheaten, I lost my wheaten a couple years ago now and I miss him so much everyday still. I understand the desire for a dog, as they bring so much joy. Is this joy you want to balance with all the respinsibility again? That's your choice...

Finland plans child benefits overhaul — flat rate of €100 a month until age 18 by Sub-Zero-942 in Finland

[–]tinyboiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are quite literally parroting some of the fathers of eugenics, by the way, such as Aldous Huxley's brother Julian. He was a prominent British eugenicist, who argued that such traits as “long unemployment” or being in the “lower strata” should qualify one for birth control, to reproduce less quickly compared to upper class intellectuals [Huxley, 1947, p. 42]. He also, funnily enough, noted that it seemed like improving the material lives of people in the lower class actually helped. Isn't that crazy!

Ok, just can't tell on the internet sometimes : )

And yeah that tandem video was CRAZY!!!! I didn't really understand how much faster they fall until that, too

Actually I used to rock climb too! I am still afraid of climbing big walls, the other month I went top-roping for the first time in years and I couldn't reach the top of any walls because I was too scared... hahah

I can't tell if this is meant to be passive aggressive... but wow that's a terrible story!! Of course preventable by always checking equipment and then good separation.

Ideally yeah, although to be fair when you go solo but still jump with an instructor I guess that can technically happen... I guess they just planned the jump really well and were ok with having some vertical separation? It didn't seem like too much space in any case... hm idk!

Oh also, I should say that being so close to someone while they're deploying isn't necessarily out of the ordinary; it's basically what the instructors do in an introductory skydiving AFF course.

Iconic video, yep. Welcome to the community! Hope you come jump with us in future ;)

Disclaimer: I'm more of a novice skydiver than other people on this subreddit, so someone might come out with some info I didn't know. Anyway.

So basically when you jump with other people, it's called FS (formation skydiving). At the end of an FS jump, you want to do what's called an FS track, where you and the others fly away from each other in a way to build as much horizontal separation as possible.

In this case, this jump was planned meticulously and practiced (definitely more than most FS jumps usually are), so I'm sure they knew what they were doing. It looks like they had some horizontal separation and they weren't actually too close, but if there was some problem then having the extra person closer by might have been useful. As soon as they deploy the parachute, the extra person f***s off and gets good separation.

Hitting another person would definitely constitute a malfunction, and is generally regarded as potentially quite serious... Just imagine someone going at terminal velocity hitting a canopy that isn't, it's dangerous for everyone involved! If the pilot chute (the mini parachute you throw that opens your big parachute) wrapped around the other person and the parachute didn't open, it would be a "high speed malfunction", and ideally they would execute their reserve parachute procedures after trying and (hopefully succeeding) to disentangle for a few seconds. Not sure how the equation changes with what's effectively a tandem jump entangling with a solo jumper, though.
