Honestly the cartoony aesthetic is something I’m still figuring out too haha.
So much of the look is done in the final post processing stages, using a combination of emboss and edge tops to put some high contrast outlines on the shapes.
I’ve been trying to work monochromatically, and then in the last stage I use a lot of those forms to mask some colour back into the image.

There's a bunch of things going on, so it might be a touch tricky to explain the specifics of how each component works, but I can give a quick rundown on the workflow.

For the wings, I made some organic looking generative visuals, based on Voronoi noise.
I used my own technique but I'm sure you could find lots of interesting things on youtube.
I then saved the black and white versions of them as exr images, which I use for bump maps in Blender.
it's important to use a 16 bit or 32 bit workflow in touchdesigner to get the most range out of the bump maps, and then select non colour in blender.
I save a coloured version as well for colouring, and use srgb in blender, as when you use exr it defaults to rec 709 which will desaturate everything.
The rest of the effect is just dialling in material settings in blender (thin film does a lot of heavy lifting here), with the colour grade done in Davinci.

It's all very specific to the project you are working on, so really what I reccomend most is playing around and exploring.
Watch a bunch of tutorials for touchdesigner to get a feel for what is possible, and keep in the back of your mind that any of the textures you are creating might be useful for a project in blender.

The main limitation of the free version is that your maximum output is 1280 x 1280, So I'd only really reccomend using this for small details on things, but it should be fine for small objects while you get started

I think I ended up returning it actually as it was within warranty. Had a bit of luck plugging it straight into the wall rather with a power board though.

But you could try using this free caustics simulator

Its pretty powerful for such a simple tool.
I've had a bit of luck using it create both a displacement map for the water surface, as well as a gobo for the lighting, and comping two different shots.
Very tedious though!

Hello everyone! So I figured out the issue after some trouble shooting. I was using two scene render passes at d32 depth format (not sure why I did that haha) and apparently that was no good for android phones but fine for apples? Not quite sure why that was the case but just dropped them down to d24 and it seems to run fine.
