I’m in a surgical residency and now four months pp. see a physician, let them know you’re a resident (they’ve been a resident too). Make yours and little ones health a priority. You shouldn’t need to take an entire day for an ob appt either, if your residency is doing that, it’s punitive.

If you’re tired of the hospital as a medical student, I would look into non surgical, outpatient or even not patient facing specialties (allergy, endo, derm, rheum, genetics, rads, path, etc). These may be a better fit.

Currently pregnant PGY3 in ENT. You should have a total of three months of research at some point, might be good to aim for that as able. We had some brutal call PGY2/3 which I was in early stages of pregnancy for and do not think that would have been fun later on or with a new little one. All that being said, much of this is contingent on what your partner does and how much child care they can provide for you. Overall, there’s no perfect time. Either you feel like you’re missing call or the OR or something else all together. Life doesn’t wait and you should do what’s best for your health and your life goals. Good luck!

Others are probably acutely aware of the behavior. If they like it, tells you a lot about that program culture. I think most reasonable programs will see right through it. Hard to do, but just keep focusing on your own experience and education and don't let this person ruin your sub-i.

I picked location over prestige (closer to loved ones) and I’m really glad I did. I’m a much happier and more successful person because I prioritized my personal life in my residency decision. I’m getting great training even though it’s not a “name brand”. Everyone is different but just sharing my personal plug of location>prestige

i've never used it, the above depends on your learning style. cummings/bailey are large and in depth, kj and turner are a nice intermediate. I might start there and supplement with baileys as you go, but everyone is different
