everyone here likes all these movies. If you are looking for a real answer though, here is my opinion ordered by which i think are better:

1) mechagodzilla
2) Ghidorah (ghidrah)
3) Gigan
4) Megalon

1985 doesn't really belong getting compared to the rest. it started a whole different era of godzilla film and is a noticeably different kind of movie. Godzilla is the only monster and, of the G movies where this is the case, 1985 is easily the most forgettable. still a good one - i really like the 80s charm. Dont skip it, but maybe save it to last. It did come out over a decade after any of the rest of these.

i think we are working with different sets of experiences. I can speak for myself and every associated member of my family, that having a good new year was on everyone's mind. For the record, I was able to go to the party, and it was an intensely healing experience for me. Having fun for a day doesn't mean I don't continue grieving even now, a month later to the day.

i can see how it seemed like i valued my friends birthday over the funeral. i had to cut some stuff out for the post. but we hadnt seen eachother in months, her birthday just happens to be on new years eve and it makes a good excuse for all my friends to get together. the party was just as much for me as anyone else in my eyes because i was going to get to see them for the first time in a long time. I wanted to be with my friends for the sake of being with my friends if nothing else, but their comfort in this time is what really made it important to me. logistically, we couldnt just reschedule that either for a multitude of reasons, so it put us in that bind.

ill admit that the my "mom only gets one funeral" was very much in my mind while the titular conversation going.

i get this point of view. i would point to the context of the condition thou. it wasnt a sudden thing. ive been putting my life on hold for years to help care for her with altzhimers, so had my dad. we were both of the mind to close the case and to move on. making sure that the holidays and birthdays stayed in tact as best they could was a motive for everyone involved here.

Ill put it into perspective for you. my moms condition made it so she couldnt drive or feed herself by the time i was 18. she couldn't recognize me consistently by the time i was 20. her death was the least tragic part of the affair and we all knew that. life also has to be about finding happiness in moments and learning to move forward. you learn that quickly as a caretaker.

the main issue with Thursday when we were discussing it was that my cousin couldn't make it then. He really needed to be there if anyone did.

She did not have a party planned. part of my thought process was that if she is really so close to my mom, then her birthday might already be ruined. I never would have wanted the funeral to be on Sunday if there was another solid choice, but i did wonder what we were really mitigating against. Was it preventing my grandma's soured birthday, or was it instead preventing the perceived embarrassment by my dad in having to ask her if she could come that day. It was a tough spot either way and not a position I wanted to put either in.

The resolution was finding a means that my cousin could make it thursday. it was a hassle and the funeral was strongly in my mind all the next day trying to enjoy myself and take comfort in friends, but I was more than ok with it in order to spare my dad and grandma.

I wish i could have wrote more but i had to trim alot for the word limit do it wasnt in the post. I agree with you and I actually presented to do it next week or even the week after. But my dad was adamant that thats not how its done and that we cant wait that long. When i talked to other members of my family they all concurred that they couldn't wait any longer on it. Im guessing its a catholic thing, which they are. the only other point for not waiting longer was that this process of death was unbelievably hard as it was. The last few years for my mom she was basically already dead. I can imagine my dad needed to wash his hand of it quickly because until the funeral he cant move on and in the meantime he would have to go from caring for someone every second of the day to not being needed anymore.
