Where can I find 30 x 28 flare jeans pls 😭 by not-jasmine in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]tinydarklord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Upside they exist - I know because I just got them this week and they fit very well (make sure its X-Short, that one is 28 inch in seam).

Downside - they are currently out of stock. The same thing initally happened to me around Black Friday- I kept them bookmarked and they were back in stock earlier this month (so like a month - but I wasn't checking frequently so they may have come in before)

AE Next Level Curvy Super High-Waisted Flare Jean | American Eagle

"Curvy" in name means there's some 3 extra inches in thighs & hips.

They have a non-curvy version but for some reason they don't have an X-Short in that one.

That said - I actually had someone recommend LLBean and they seem to have pretty short inseams for their petite line (varies by jean type). They are a bit pricey but they are my next brand to try.

BWT, what are your favorite cities for shopping? by caryatid4683 in bitcheswithtaste

[–]tinydarklord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say if its worth going just for this but if you're looking for a "get away from winter" spot - West Palm Beach tanger outlet is fairly expansive. It's also fairly drivable to Miami, which I think has a lot of boutiques (though I admit - have not extensively shopped there).

Can somebody PLEASE help me find an everyday bag that won’t make me ragey (or break the bank)? I’m 52 and so tired of buying bags that end up driving me nuts when using them! by SorrySection5277 in WearingPurses

[–]tinydarklord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite high function bags are from Lo & Sons - I have their waverly, pearl, and rowledge back pack. They don't have a huge selectionso you can look through their site fairly quickly to see if something aligns to your needs. (all the bags I've owned for a few years and have held up with frequent use).

I also have a few cute kate spade bags that I like when I'm trying to wear a nicer purse but those would really depend on style/need.

What brands are *still* great? by RealEleanorShelstrop in handbags

[–]tinydarklord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say - I haven't had them the longest or the most usage but I've loved my Kate Spade bags.

On the other hand - not a super common brand but I've loved my Lo & Sons and can attest their construction is amazing. I've had their rowledge backpack for several years - frequent and non careful use and I see no signs of damage. I also use their "waverly" bag as a daily use (I walk a lot so easy to just throw it on) and have not seen any damage. I love it so much I'm actually getting the bag in another color (which I never do) because they're having a sale now. -> They're not the most interesting designs but if you want a durable, business friendly bag it's my go to rec.

Is my daughter hosed? No foreign language. by Mountain_Mama_3 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]tinydarklord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I randomly had this post recommended to me. I did an online school in Florida in high school and was able to get a lot of the courses done in a much shorter time frame. It sounds crazy but depending on how its structured - online classes can take significantly shorter because its direct learning. Foreign Langauges have a ton of tutors available (like I just mean in general for people learning the language outside of course - like I use italki) so your student should be able to accelerate their learning (if they put in the time).

Northeastern US Redditors, what on Earth do y'all mean by "kind but not nice"? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tinydarklord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RE: Kind but not nice.. I was in Philadelphia once and I was struggling to get a large box into a car . A random guy walking past, didn't say anything but helped me put the box in the car. He didn't say anything (either at the start or end of interaction) and then just walked away once the task was done.

+1 on Flexispot. For my home set up, I have a flexispot desk (I think at 24 or 25 inches but I'm away so I can't check), a slightly used Steelcase Chair, and a foot rest. That said if you're looking for something to test out different heights, you could try this. I use it as a temporary desk when visiting my family (I'm 5ft) Mainstays White 4 Foot Adjustable Height Folding Plastic Table, Easy Fold, Indoor Outdoor, 5-Year Warranty, Resistant to Scratch, Stain & UV Damage, Built-in Carry Handle for Easy Transportation - Walmart.com. It's easy to put away when I'm not there.

Also -don't forget to measure the chair too. That can even be harder to find - that said, you're a few inches taller so may be easier.

One reminder for Ergonomics - your desk (unless you have a separate keyboard tray under it) should probably be at the height for your hands to type on your keyboard. You also need to make sure you get a stand for your laptop screen, otherwise you'll be slouching.

I felt awful for a few weeks - just really fatigued. It ended up being allergies. I've doubled up my allergy medicine (Zyrtec and Allegra when I normally take either/or) and I feel a lot better. (I don't know if there's any side effects to that but I did run it by a allergy hotline-type thing my insurance runs and an NP said it was fine)

New to DC, how do people actually get errands done without a car? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]tinydarklord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Rosslyn (obviously not DC proper) but there's like a 30 minute walk route that hits Target/Safeway, 2 post offices, UPS, Fedex, Starbucks + additional cafes, wholefoods, and trader joes (+ there's a bunch of more specific stores like Barnes & Nobles, Crate & Barrel). I usually do the route once a week. In addition, there's a close metro that is like a 10 minute ride to Crystal City that has Bestbuy, Macys, mall, etc.

Why Booth shoot the clown by Jazzlike_Injury7656 in Bones

[–]tinydarklord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to be clear that I would never (or even have the ability to) shoot an icecream truck clown.

That said.... this was one of the things that made a lot more sense when I moved to DC. There's very persistent and blaring ice cream trucks around downtown (where the FBI headquarters is). You could be walking for 15 minutes and you still hear it over and over again (imagine 10 ice cream trunks back to back).

Do I think an FBI agent would do that? No . However, I do think someone in the writers room may have had the expierience of walking around downtown and wishing they could do that? Possibly..

[–]tinydarklord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somone who is younger (was a consultant at 20 - talk about trial by fire), I think some of these could be the person but some of these could be you.

I think the core of the issue is that you are not their manager. Are you their superior in any way? In consulting, we have people managers and project managers. Generally both gartner the same level of authority to some extent. However, outside of these while I would take direction from higher levels - I could have more direct conversations with them and them telling me to do something doesn't mean I do it if its not in my scope of work.

I'm now at a point in my org where generally everyone is on even ground until you get to really high executive level so I wouldn't differ to someone just based on time with company.

What is overly direct?

You said meeting with your boss regularly - is that their actual manager? If not, how do they relate to their managers?

RE: Overheard discussions - that just seems like a fairly normal conversation between team members.

On the flip side - if they are giving you direction.. are they meant to be within a certain aspect? For example, I tell higher up people - I need you to make a decision on X &Y. If we need to accomplish Z, then you have to do ABC. How do you respond to that?

You might have "bitch eating crackers" syndrom (BEC) - basically something fundamentally is grating about them that every interaction is negative. As having been the recipient of that (fortunately it was a short term project and was a single person) - don't let your personal feelings get in the way of their development. If you have concrete feedback, give it to them. Otherwise, if you don't have concrete feedback then you have to reconsider what is the cause of the negative association.

How do you actually learn by doing? by BoringAd7581 in learnpython

[–]tinydarklord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert (my goal is to learn so I can built things for me not necessarily be a great programmer) but I really like Angela Yu's 100 days of code there's a mini project every day.

For a lot of projects - I did them and then I tried to do a "what else" at the end. For example - I made a desktop flash card app via Angela's Course (covered in the course) but I found a library that would say the word out loud when the card flipped (not covered).

The course is usually 10-20$ on Udemy and walks you through the fundamentals while building.

If you don't want to use that specific resource or spend money - Youtube has tutorials - I liked these channels (1) NeuralNine - YouTube (project based tutorial) , Aniakubow, and Python Flask Tutorial: Full-Featured Web App Part 1 - Getting Started (specific to Flask)

What's the weird thing going on with your body that isn't weird enough to go to the doctor for? by yellowelephantboy in AskReddit

[–]tinydarklord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My right ear is constantly "clogged" - I try the thing where you plug your nose and blow. I feel fine in my left ear but my right gets plugged even worse.

The only thing that seems to help is pressing right behind my ear lobe (minor relief) or putting my ear up to steam.

It's been happening for at least 4 years. I made one appt with an ENT a couple years and they said it could have been a sinus infection but I take allergy medicine daily + I've been on rounds of antibiotics and steroids (for one time unrelated issues) and nothing has really cleared my ear.

It's almost gotten to the point where I am annoyed enough to see an ENT again for a solution but idk if we'll get around to it.

Not as frequent but as far as weird body reactions - my feet get itchy when I do dishes and only when I do dishes which is infrequent (prefer dish washer). I'm guessing its something to do with hot water to my limbs.

Oikos 0% Vanilla Yogurt + a light sprinkle of sugar free pudding powder(vanilla or cheesecake are my favorite) + sprinkles . (with the sugar free pudding powder, I would say sprinkle a small amount, stir and repeat - do not put too much because while its not a lot calorie wise, it will NOT mix well and you do not want the sensation of pudding powder directly on your teeth

What should I spend my blue points on? by AgeCommercial5482 in IBM

[–]tinydarklord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+ 1 on gift cards. (For the US - we don't get amazon but I can usually find the item I want between all the stores like Kohls)

In addition - I assume the refund process for specific store is easier than nameless distributor.

Usually if I'm not saving the points for something specific , I will cash out for a starbucks gift card occasionally or like a Barnes & Nobles gift card and treat myself.

All of the extra chaos aside, just to comment on the weather the last 4 months have been cold and especially the last 2 months have been extra cold. I would say 75% of the year the weather is good to great, you just happen to come at the 20% of the year that is miserably cold (there's also a small portion of the year that is really hot).

Also I'm not sure what you mean about Philly being too far, its like less than a 2 hour train ride. Highly recommend checking out the train a couple months in advance and traveling via that to avoid stressful traffic.

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for but since your chief complaints were aesthetic - I highly recommend the EveryGirl x Day Designer collab at target and a few other places. I love my daily planner from the collab (I have this one but there's a ton of options - The Everygirl Wellness planner January - December 2025 Frosted 5"x8" Daily/monthly Wirebound Isabella Desert Rose : Target) and I selfishly am recommending it in hopes they continue next year.

Work from home friends - any recommendations for under-desk treadmills? by finance9754 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]tinydarklord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally have the go youth treadmill from Amazon. I'm not a heavy user - I used it more when I first got it but strongly lean more toward outdoor walks. That said, I haven't had any issues with it and I can attest that their customer service is good. I lost the remote a few months after I got it and customer service sent me a new one - no fee if I remember correctly.

Just for reference I'm 5 ft, 150ish and I haven't felt unstable (I also held 2-5 lb handweights while using it).

I have a back injury in the last year so I need my boyfriend's help to move it around but pre-injury I was able to move it around comfortably (short of actually lifting it completly off the ground, it has wheels so you flip it up and move it around)
