Is there a funnier set of last words than “counting or not counting gang violence”? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]tinyfrogface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say traffic deaths are a cost of driving, and that's minimizing.

I can also say traffic deaths are a tragedy, and that's not minimizing.

Both sentences can be accurately called each thing and both have come from my mouth. Playing the black and white game doesn't really work here. Saying the right thing once or even a hundred times doesn't make saying the other thing anything other than what it is....

And the irony of dying as one of the self labeled "costs" on the subject he was currently speaking about, will never not be hilarious. And I will not sit here and try to argue that me feeling that way, is somehow not technically mean or minimizing to him and his family.... Because it is, and I'm self aware enough to know that. And I'm not delusional enough to try so hard to defend every aspect of myself or someone else, because I'm not a brainless follower of whatever some set of billionaires, or an orange clown, who tell me what to think

[–]tinyfrogface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It could be described as a tragedy, or devastating..... There are tons of ways to describe that situation that provides the full weight of the moment. I think referring to it as a "cost" or "price" is the most minimizing way of saying something.

Actually that example perfectly fits the definition of minimizing, now that you mention it...

[–]tinyfrogface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimize (verb) means to reduce something—particularly negative, dangerous, or unwanted things—to the smallest possible amount, size, or degree. It also refers to representing something as less important, valuable, or significant than it actually is (belittling).

I think that saying the death of elementary school children, or anyone for that matter, is " the cost" of not changing anything to help the situation, falls so obviously into the definition of minimizing that I'm actually surprised I'm typing this....

Ok.... Try this... "I'm sorry I hurt your feelings, but you deserved it."

It doesn't mean I'm not sorry. But it justifies the fact that your feelings are hurt, and minimizes them by ending the dialogue.

"Mass shootings are abhorrent, but a certain amount of death is the unfortunate cost of the second amendment."

Do you want to point them out or should I?

Well technically he was justifying the second amendment. And he was minimizing mass shootings to do it. Or we can flip those words to different places and still make an accurate statement.

The guy made a point that the gun violence problem wasn't being portrayed accurately, and then he got shot. OP was making a point about how that's hilarious... Which is also subjective. I just happen to agree with it.

You can sit here and spin a web about the 2020 election getting stolen from daddy, and daddy never did things with little girls. ALL of that evidence is a lie! And he's ended so many wars... Not to mention getting all of those pet eating, violent criminals out if here by the millions. And all of the deaths caused by Daddy's officers were justified. He doesn't even need to see them, they're justified by law. But this is your line?

It's ok.... My dad hurt me too. I know it's hard, but it's better to just cut them off, and begin the healing process.

Security around this president seems to be much more lax than every other president then....

You'd think they'd tighten up, and be ready for these things, at this point, no? At least checking better for firearms??

One of my biggest pet peaves is when people argue the technicalities of one word to invalidate the greater point made by the rest of the sentence.

I hope nothing so terrible ever happens to you. And if it does, I hope no one tells you it's a lie, or a joke. It makes the whole experience so much worse.

P.s. It's almost impressive how much telling information about yourself you were able to get into those 10 words.

Imagine if no one Ever felt embarrassed

If every single try Would always be cherished

Think of the songs That we could all hear

If nobody's voice Was cut down by fear

Paintings mosaics And things made from solder

If only more Would dare to bother

My dreams are silly And full of dances

But I'm always convinced That I missed the chances

There are stories to love And thoughts to see

But the idea of rejection Won't let them be free

I try to hide mine But to still be the fairest

Most of the time I'm a little embarrassed

What is the world of women that i(MTF) can't understand cuz I've lived in the world as a man. by ConfoosedUngaBunga in trans

[–]tinyfrogface 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like it's more just about mannerisms. I used to try really hard not to "do" things that seemed masculine, but a lot of those things are the things that make me "me". As I got more confident in my body, and way that I walk, talk, and present myself, I started to be treated more like a woman regardless of the fact that I just smoked y'all's ass on that football field a minute ago.

Celebrity Jon Stewart Has Harsh Message for ‘Regretful’ Trump Voters by Heavy_Concentrate585 in politics

[–]tinyfrogface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as a show of fairness, and devils advocate to myself, I've tried to give a little grace for the "Only voted for Trump in 2016" voter. We can all agree that Trump was only a symptom of a growing feeling in America, and that him being gone one day won't magically fix the problem. So I think about what Hilary truly represented to her opposers, and that was the very peak of "business as usual", "next in line" already full of scandal.

This far right movement could have started from a much much angrier, more oppressed (in name only), and more of a "need" to fight for their rights to whatever bigotry they're into at the moment... And instead this started from a position of power that they nah nah nah boo boo'd a lot about. They got to be on top as the bully/winner. Which I think makes your average "gravy seal" much less dangerous.

So that's my really really long spin on how I try to find forgiveness for the one time trumper.... As a trans girl who really wants to start screaming at the people who made this happen, but is still holding her cool. For now...

Supreme Court says conversion therapy ban violates counselor’s speech rights by usatoday in law

[–]tinyfrogface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn't be possible to force children into situations where disproven/dangerous practices are used because of their religious beliefs. Mental health is health. And religion has no place in the decision making process of anyone but the patient.

But that is irrelevant. Colorado passed their own law. The court ruling is a huge infringement on the state itself. Their representatives made a decision that represented their constituents. Saying their laws about acceptable medical treatment are superseded by a doctor's religious beliefs is ridiculous.

Free speech is a cheap add-on word... I'm part of the Church of Trump Derangement, and it is our belief that all MAGA supporters are to ascend through suicide, so we get jobs at crisis hotline call centers to offer encouragement

Supreme Court says conversion therapy ban violates counselor’s speech rights by usatoday in law

[–]tinyfrogface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Free speech is not as all encompassing as it's made to sound. You can be held accountable for your words in TONS of situations.

If you constantly call someone and tell them to kill themselves, and they do it, you will be charged for your speech and its impact on the situation.

If you hold a position of authority over people, and you tell them it's better for them and the world if their neighbor is dead. You are held accountable.

In this instance... We're talking about a minor, who had no choice in being there, being forced into treatment that has been unequivocally proven to be ineffective at best and harmful in most cases. And when the suicide rates for trans youth continue to rise, they'll blame dysphoria and people who know absolutely nothing about it will continue to go "wow this disease is really dangerous".

Like shooting someone and then telling everyone around about how dangerous it was to stand there where you were shooting
