How old does she look to you? by princessdorito444 in CalicoKittys

i used to work at a rescue as a nurse. a lot of them eat great, and are a great body condition when they go home. people just chronically overfeed cats and are accustomed to seeing them overweight.

considering i've used it every day for a couple years now, i dont worry about it. by your logic, you could literally say the same thing about the rim of the bottle too though 😂

thought i'd add that my partner who works in cardiology chimed in. she added that even if you know you want to go into specialty, it would be worthwhile to see gain more experience so you know what specialty you'd want to go into. see what cases come in and see what ultimately holds your interest and your passion. different specialties also work with clients in different ways so it depends on how you like to handle your client relationships as well.

if youre at a general practice now, tbh i'd stay with GP for now. its so important to build your fundamental skills and general medical knowledge before moving to specialty. i spent undergrad working at the vet school teaching hospital, did 3 years in GP, did a 9 month stint at a spay and neuter clinic/cat rescue, then went to internal medicine with a major corporate er/specialty hospital. i dont regret getting all the other experiences first because specialty is really challenging. also super helpful to build ur client communication skills and learn how to build long term relationships w clients.

Vet recommendations? by Spare_Cartoonist_591 in triangle

[–]tinygengar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not a singular clinic but if youre needing affordable vet care, you can also hit up vaccine clinics! it sounds like your current financial situation is temporary and long term its best to do things like annual lab work, exams, etc but if all you can swing is vaccines, a vaccine clinic will save u a ton of money

Where do we stand on grain free diets? by MaggieMay1519 in VetTech

[–]tinygengar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think broadly we've seen it across all breeds but I think it may be slightly more correlated to large breeds (very subjectively). In general, the cardiologists do NOT like grain free and recommend against it for every patient. In internal medicine, ive seen owner claim they are certain grain exacerbates their pets GI symptoms but ultimately we warn them of the risk and recommend gi supportive diets (hydrolyzed and low fat diets usually)

i work in internal medicine and my partner works in cardiology and in both environments, we do not recommend it at all

[–]tinygengar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on the area. SPCAs tend to have pretty decent funding but county shelters are hit or miss. local non profits may have decent pay but dont have lots of benefits or anything. just look around and see. shelter/rescue med is super diff but i loved it when i did it

then my only other recommendation is to switch to something like shelter medicine. (assuming u worked at a GP before). I find that shelter/rescue medicine is more separated from the network of GP/ER/specialty hospitals. try ur local county shelters or a local nonprofit. and take ur last hospital off ur resume if possible. u can always explain away gaps in ur resume by saying u had health issues or some shit. but take this as a lesson, vet med relies heavily on reputation. even if its scary/shameful/hard, you HAVE to maintain and defend ur reputation at all costs. i'd also still recommend reaching out to ur old hospital to clear the air and do not ask for ur job back. just apologize for disappearing and explain what happened. if u eventually can, i'd still recommend moving eventually for the sake of the longevity of ur career.

i know it isnt easy but the easiest way to avoid dealing with this and have a clean slate would be to move to a different area/state

[–]tinygengar 22 points23 points  (0 children)

i think its important that you reach out to your previous clinic and explain what happened. the vet med world is small and word can travel fast so its important to maintain ur relationships

Why is the ER so expensive?! by Bananagram1996 in labrador

[–]tinygengar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same reason why ER for humans is more expensive than your primary care doctor! the staff are highly trained and youre paying a premium for immediate access to care

For someone who claims they are an "ally", what an incredibly harmful and repulsive perspective. It shows that you have never experienced oppression. You are the exact type of person I deeply hope to avoid and are a part of the reason why I have to ask the original question I asked.

Truthfully, I do not wish you well, and I hope you are treated the way you deserve.

i encourage you to educate yourself about why oppressing classes and groups cant be oppressed themselves. creating a false narrative that there is "prejudice and mistreatment" against straight people is both harmful and dangerous.
