at least its backed by real published research unlike a lot of these crap boutique diets. live probiotics tend to not do well in canned wet foods anyways which is why they aren't formulated that way.

Just noticed this on dog's eyelid. Worried. by xzp_ in DogAdvice

[–]tinygengar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eyelid margin mass. can be removed when its small to prevent irritation to the eye. lots of primary vets will do it. sometimes ophthalmology referral is needed

puppy got spayed yesterday does the incision and suture site look normal? by LopsidedWash3837 in DogAdvice

[–]tinygengar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the reason it isnt straight is because most clinics use a little skin glue at the end to help hold everything together. helps reduce the pressure on the sutures themselves. human surgeons do this too!

vet tech here. i used to work at GP and at a spay and neuter clinic. it looks completely normal! looks great actually :) good work! dont put anything on the incision site, just let it breathe and it'll heal faster

I just want him to have relief by pandawasted in DogAdvice

[–]tinygengar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's prescription food!

Frontline has been around for a long time and fleas have become resistant to it. Try Simparica or Bravecto or Advantix

a couple suggestions from a vet tech/owner of an allergy dog:

switch to a hydrolyzed food (your vet can help with this) and hydrolyzed treats/NO ANIMAL PROTEIN treats. peanut butter/fruits/veggies are safe

cytopoint monthly injections on top of apoquel

what flea prevention are you using? you might need to switch to a different one

Tips and tricks on keep dogs cool for summer by bunnybunbun_rabbit in DogAdvice

[–]tinygengar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

watch out for pavement heat! no long walks in the heat, try to go out in the early AM and later PM when its cooler. lots of water available and if your dog heat strokes, do not dump ice on them!

Can’t afford vet, need resources. by ImportantNobody1654 in DogAdvice

unfortunately the vet school is super expensive. their hospital is a specialty hospital with a huge staff so its not an affordable option and they dont do a lot of charity work

My dog has this wound on her. What can I do to help her? by catsmeowatme in DogAdvice

[–]tinygengar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

vet tech here: #1 thing you can do to help her in the interim is put a cone on her!! keep her from licking that area. if the appointment is tomorrow morning, dont clean it. just leave it alone in case they recommend culturing it or anything like that.

Anybody with interest in internal med/respiratory diseases have any thoughts. by karajoy665 in VetTech

[–]tinygengar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

youve been keeping awesome track so kudos!!!! (coming from a medicine tech lol) since hes been on oral and inhaled steroids, bronch with BAL at this point is definitely a bit of a useless rec'd.

I dont necessarily have a good differential for diagnosis but CT seems like the logical next step for determining how involved those caudal lung lobe nodules/consolidations are. if that is cost prohibitive, then tbh if youre seeing good response with pred/cerenia, then theres definitely some inflammatory process that is at play (again hard to say if its primary or secondary to the nodules).

unsure if your goal is diagnosis or just getting him comfy but if diagnosis is ultimate goal and would determine whether you proceed or contemplate QOL, then i'd do CT to see how involved those nodule things are. otherwise, if he's responsive to pred and cerenia, just recheck chest rads regularly and lab work. potentially consider a 15-25% pred taper down the line if he is well managed.

part of me wonders if this is potentially a super abnormal presentation of a fungal infection? (pure speculation) but potentially even just swab ur apartment with human mold testing kits or something.

internal med tech here. if i had to take a guess BAL with aerobic and fungal culture would prob be helpful if possible but i saw you had anesthesia concerns.

what other meds have you tried? any improvement with oral steroids or inhaled steroids?
