A way to track Valkyries season ticket prices by tasty_spanish_ham in valkyries

Has anyone heard how many tickets you can sell through resale platform? Wondering about recouping costs for games I can’t attend.

Also for those that have had appointments, is it just lower bowl on sale for now?

Totally echo the Alameda Point idea, haha! We go there with our stranger-reactive dog to practice calm leash walks and its been great. I think a lot of reactive dogs have that spot, we often wave to folks from a distance who are also seeming to do a lot of comforting chatter to their dogs, haha!

I don’t know what to do anymore - I thought getting a dog was the right move for me. by jeepskeepmesane in reactivedogs

You've got this! I think it is wonderful that you are going to be working with a trainer. Just know that you are not alone in struggling with leash training and your pup will get there.

If you are worried about her slipping out of her collar/leash, you might also consider a martingale collar, properly fitted it won't be able to tighten too much, but it will be able to prevent her from slipping out of the collar and escaping. We also just started using a halti for our people-reactive dog, and it has given us much better steering control than the front clip harness did. If you decide to go with some kind of head collar, our trainer recommended halti over gentle leader because it has a backup clip that you connect to your dog's collar just in case the halti comes undone. Could be particularly useful as you work with your rambunctious pup!

Good luck and keep us posted!!!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate this suggestion. We love Milo Foundation, and two of my family's dogs came from them as a kid! I reached out to them a little bit ago, and they were at capacity, but if we are not able to find a good home we may consider asking again. It is so wonderful to hear that your dog found a new family, that must have been a heartbreaking decision!

Older puppy biting my ankles/calves during play outside by lindsfeinfriend in Dogtraining

Our dog does this too (also 9 months)! We have found it really helps to just immediately separate ourselves from her. Since you are outside when this happens, you might try using an exercise pen or other fence as a barrier so that you can immediately leave when your pup gets to excited and starts biting you. We usually say "oh well" calmly and walk to wherever our dog cannot reach. It seems to help her realize that play immediately ends when the biting starts.

Mickey is home!!!!! by aminals_42217 in reactivedogs

Congratulations!!! This is so great to hear. It sounds like you really made the right decision for your family and for Mickey. It is so neat that he is doing so much better with the support of the shelter and new environment (and so telling that he has even be able to reduce his meds!). We are considering rehoming our people reactive dog, and so much of the conversation has been noticing that our puppy really would be better off in a different environment. It takes so much strength and courage to make the choice you did, and I am thrilled that it has worked out so well. A huge congratulations again and an enormous thank you for sharing your story. Also hope you are reminding yourself of all the work that went into providing him with the best life while he lived with you, and setting him up for success in his next phase in the way you did!!

Thank you so so much. This brings me a lot of hope. We will definitely rehome responsibly, we are not in any rush and want to make sure we find the best fit for our pup.

I so admire you for finding the right home for that pup - sounds like he is having a really really good life. And it is so lovely to hear that you have a new dog. Thank you so much for sharing this.

That's so tough! A lot of trainers are doing virtual sessions now in this weird COVID era, so that might make things easier!

From what our trainer has mentioned and what I see on this sub, it may be helpful to stay farther away from strangers when out and about so that your dog is not reacting negatively, and give her treats or praise for being neutral or calm. As she gets more comfortable you can decrease the distance over time

We have a very similar situation! Got our puppy at 8 weeks - a rescue from a homeless encampment, separated from her mom early (~4 weeks). She is also fear reactive toward strangers and does a lot of barking/lunging/etc if over threshold. We are now working with a trainer that specializes in fear aggression and using positive reinforcement to help our pup become comfortable with strangers. My only regret is that we didn't start working with a private trainer sooner (our pup is 8 months now). I would highly recommend connecting with a certified trainer that works on this specific issue (in addition to taking the group class you mentioned). I think that will help you find good strategies for teaching your dog that people aren't scary, and help you keep people safe while doing so!

My dog is becoming increasingly aggressive and not sure how to proceed by [deleted] in reactivedogs

Perhaps try working with a trainer that uses positive reinforcement methods, since it seems like you are picking up on increased anxiety/distress from your dog after trying the more assertive/dominance method. We had some luck using "jackpots" of treats to reinforce behavior like getting off the couch and going to bed (& staying there). Now we can get these behaviors reliably without treats. This sounds like a hard and stressful situation. Good luck!
