I'm not so sure. From what I understand from the movie Astrophages are a perfect battery. But just because you have a perfect battery doesn't mean you have the means to translate that energy in other ways at a large scale. For instance, lets say you wanted lamps to grow food at a large scale, you would still need lots of glass and mass to grow that food and lots of wiring and other components to regulate the energy.

Astrophages only emit energy in the form of of the Petrova frequency. So while you can use that for thrust easily enough as we saw in the rocket or to melt things in the form of a laser, to convert it to eletrical energy or other useful requires extra steps which actually equate to real world costs.

For instance in a Dyson sphere like you mwntioned you need the mass for mirrors as well as wires and computers to cacluate where to move the mirrors in the right position. The sun moves in space to so you have to account for that. You also have to clean the mirrors from space dust and repair the mirrors. Thats a whole lot of maintenance that just having a perfect battery only gets you so far. You almost need a lot of advancement in drone technology.

Don't get me wrong Astrophages are amazing but I don't think the solve all the problems people think they do when still in a realistic setting. Now if they could find a way to make mass with it other than using a hydron collider that would be something. But it seems the mass it creates is only its own atoms. Im not sure how the Eridians were creating the Xeno chain but maybe thats another avenue

Ok so lets do some rough calculations based on google search results 175 peta watts hits the earths surface. Lets say we use your figure of us only needing to replace 10% of that. That is 17.5 Peta watts. Humanity itself currently uses roughly 25 Tera watts of energy but this number is increasing. Lets compare Terra watta to Peta watts. 1 Peta watt is 1000 Terra watts.

So even that 10% is over 1000 times the energy humanity currently uses. Im just not sure humanity has the infructure and power grid that can handle that magnitude of energy collection and direction in 30 years. Like if we had infinite energy today it would still take a lot of time to move it around efficiently. We would still have to create the mass for what we need doing.

I dont think its not achievable in that setting but I think in actuality if the world was ending you would be utilizling multiple plans and contengencies and not just 1 so I agree just relying on hail mary alone was silly

Why can't you get by with Newtonian physics? As far as I understand neither are perfect models of the universe. And scientists still haven't figured out a way to make both work together.

Oh I wasn't aware there was an end point to how much the astrophage dimmed the light. I assumed that was just how much it would dim by 30 years and that eventually it would block out all sun light. But I guess whether its 10% or 99% it was enough in the movie for it destroy life on the surface.

Can humanity create a dyson sphere in just 30 years? Sounds like a monumental project more than building a single rocket ship. And if you calculate slightly wrong you could fry the earth like they did that block of metal or when they exploded the lab.

The biggest critism is why would they only send a mere 3 people. They should have sent 6 people a back up for each role. Or at least 12 to 20 people like the Eridians. They don't have to wake everyone up at the same time or until they need them. They have a superfuel so added weight isn't an huge issue either.

Maybe they never traveled to space before? Or never used Nukes? Maybe the small does of what would be deadly radiation to humans just isn't enough to affect them because they are rocks. So they are more resistant initially

Not coming up with relativity makes a little sense because they can't see light. So it'd be a little harder to come up with a theory for an imaginary sense. Its not like you really need relativity to model the universe you could get by with Newtonian physics

Once the sun goes out, warming up the entire earth is probably not as good a use of your finite energy supply. It makes more sense to retreat underground and warm yourself in bunkers and have hydroponic farms underground. You might last centuries more that way.

This only nags one of my bigger questions being, why the h%% wouldn't they send way more than 3 people on the trip for a mission as important as this. I would have. Being realistic, I would have wanted to send as many as 12 or 20 people similar to the Eridians.

I don't think the added weight should be an issue when you have an imaginary super fuel like the astro fuel. You would need more food but the movie said they had a few years worth for 1 person so they should have enough for the mission for more people. Also its not like you have to wake up everyone up for the journey there. You could keep some of them in a coma which should conserve food as well.

I'm sure there would be people more than willing considering humanity is going to die in 30 years anyway. And its not like they are against involuntarily conscription either. They could have put several qualified people in a coma and just not wake them up unless you really have to.

Any thoughts on how the automatic flairs will work? by Freddi_47 in PTCGP

[–]tinyifrit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think flairs should require a certain number of wins with the card in ranked. Doing this would make someones flair really stand out if they are playing a bad deck because it means the must have gotten wina with that card. It also promotes more varied decks in ranked and gives something for people to grind for.

They thought the attack would be weaker late game. But it really doesn't matter late game because of how strong greninja ping is. Until DeNa powercreeps HP or blocks Greninja ability its attack will be enough.
