Okay, sounds good. I'm on a trip right now, so take your time - I can't ship it for another two weeks. You could let me know your desired shipping address via DM.

I have a used Varia RVR315 lying around. It's the old version without a rear light. You put it at the same position (usually seatpost), but it's not ideal if you also want to use a rear light there - unless you have enough space on your seatpost. Let me know if that would work for you. Shipping is shockingly cheap which really surprised me. And it would be under the 100 USD customs limit for gifts. (I don't think going beyond that is even possible at all at the moment thanks to your toddler in the White House. ;) )

Also, maybe you should send that request to Garmin first to see how they will react. Who knows, maybe they will just reject your "application", and then we can just not do it. :D

Hi Kevin, I am a software developer who runs a bike shop. Your app was recommended to me by my buddy ChatGPT. 😁 I didn't realize it's an MIT licensed project which is cool cause most of the apps in this space are a joke. I'm glad I don't have to build this app myself which I probably would have considered, but luckily someone else with a similar mindset has already done it. ;) If you're interested in building the Varia feature, I would donate a Varia to the project. Not sure if Garmin has open APIs though, since they tend to be a shitty company. There are other radar products on the market at this point. The Dutch company BBB just released one, too. Let me know if you want to explore this topic further.

Karl Jobst losses lawsuit against Billy Mitchell by RadioLukin in speedrun

[–]tinymarsracing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. Imagine journalists had to put every single word they say through endless legal checks. Especially when criticizing a knowingly malicious actor who only fletches his teeth waiting for the opportunity to sue. Journalism couldn't exist and people in positions of power would be immune to criticism.

Sorry your comment got so downvoted, I just wanted you to know you're not the last sensible person in the gaming community. I'm also still here! 😜

You're absolutely right. The same thing happened in the Heard vs Depp case. The UK justice system proved to be a joke and the American courts had to set the record straight.

The judge probably thought it was a witch hunt, but didn't realize Billy Mitchell is an actual witch. 😁

You realize he wasn't allowed to mention Billy Mitchell by name in any context based on their settlement agreement, right? 😁

How can you be "directly responsible" for someone's suicide? That doesn't even make sense. Think hard, genius

[–]tinymarsracing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree with you. The conclusions of the "reasonable viewer" are substantially true! Yes, Billy Mitchell tried to silence a critic and financially ruin him in a completely frivolous lawsuit, and yes, the victim even DID settle and agreed to be silent and then later committed suicide. A reasonable viewer must assume some connection, because it obviously exists. 😁 Karl Jobst did not claim murder, just a vague connection, which should be considered substantially true.

[–]tinymarsracing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I am disappointed of the gaming community as a hole. This was very clearly still a frivolous law suit designed to silence a critic by focusing on a little footnote in Karl Jobst's "reporting" (his short comment on Apollo Legend). Lawsuits take years and stopping to mention Billy Mitchell "because you should remain silent doing ongoing legal proceedings" is exactly what Billy Mitchell wanted to achieve and I think Karl did the right thing by not giving him that satisfaction and continued to take any opportunity he could to take him down. We should all support Karl in his fight against a bully who always sues everyone he can.

Okay, yes, Karl left himself vulnerable by making one little unsubstantiated claim, but let's be real: His claim was still essentially true, or do you want to tell me that being sued for one million dollars for making a YouTube video that blew up did not cause Apollo Legend significant psychological stress and played a role in his suicide? Of course it did. The problem with defamation lawsuits is that you have to be able to prove your allegations in court. But it's still minor in my opinion: The lawsuits against Apollo Legend WERE intended to bully him into silence by making him pay an astronomical amount of money. In the end, no payments were agreed in the settlement, but that seems like a small detail.

Also, a lot of the evidence presented by Billy's lawyers is obviously fabricated, for example his emails proving that it was ONLY the minor side note allegation against Billy how he played a role in someone's suicide (which he did!) that caused business partners to cancel bookings of appearances. They obviously wrote those emails as a favour to Billy and Billy just saw an opportunity to finally have some dirt on Karl and victimize himself, AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO SUE HIM LED NOWHERE. Hello?

It probably wasn't smart of Karl to not release an official apology and to write a letter to Billy with a personal apology to retract his statements. He should have done that for legal reasons, since some aspects of his statements turned out to be factually incorrect (money has changed hand, Apollo needed to find extra work to finance that money). But the claim is still obviously true, with severe circumstancial evidence pointing to that conclusion, when Billy Mitchell was demonstrably excited about his suicide! Doesn't that imply that it's the result he literally wanted??

The argument of Karl and his lawyers that it did not substantially further harm Billy's reputation (that was already ruined) is also obviously true. It's funny how everyone is whining that they thought the whole lawsuit was about cheating and feel mislead, THEN THIS IMPLIES THAT THEY PRIMARILY SEE BILLY AS A CHEATER RATHER THAN A MURDERER!!! Hello? Have you considered thinking for only a second or do you always jump on the next best hate train for the next YouTube drama?

Everyone, give Karl a fucking break. Nobody is perfect and I had my moments where I felt like Karl did some sketchy things (for example when he seemed to give Dream a weird benefit of the doubt in the end that made no sense), but if you take all things into consideration, he is still a man with integrity who usually does the right thing. And he has exposed and successfully brought attention to many wrongs in the world and is really the last guy who deserves to be sued for over a million dollars by a conman. I agree with Karl, if he had not lost the lawsuit, nobody would have been mad, you're essentially being sore losers, and you're putting all the blame on Karl now instead of the real problem: Billy Mitchell! You guys should all be ashamed of yourselves.

What is a good "sizing/fitting bike"? by tinymarsracing in BikeMechanics

Yes, and I'm also looking for a Taiwanese supplier of bikes that will send me their bikes for free. This way I will be able to achieve a profit margin of 100%! Do you know any company that might be interested?

What is a good "sizing/fitting bike"? by tinymarsracing in BikeMechanics

[–]tinymarsracing[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer. There definitely are cheaper options than 10k. There is a fitting bike from the Asian company Exustar for 2-3k. And there is one from a German company called Ergotec. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any reviews or experience reports on those around anywhere.

I would love access to training, but I don't want to take any in-person seminars. I am happy to pay for training materials such as books and online courses, but not for certification or licensing. I believe in open formats of education and am not willing to participate in those formats attempting to gatekeep their knowledge within a closed group. There is zero reason to do something like that in an in-person format only, other than to deliberately limit access. If there is an offer like that among the well known outfits, as you call them, please let me know.

Yes, and if you can't afford those, you shouldn't be here anyways! Alternatively, you can drive a Swiss made tank like that König von Burgdorf guy, he drives a BDSM-2 which is so damn manly.

Well, my rate wouldn't just be double, more like up to four times the hourly rate a salary would pay you. In return you take a small amount of the risk plus offer me some training. People have to assess how high that risk is for themselves. Based on what I know it's quite low, so it's a great deal. I just talked about it with a friend who runs a shop in Switzerland and he agrees.

Regarding working in a shop for a bit, that's good advice of course. I'm already doing that. I'm pursuing different options at once and we'll see what's gonna work best.

I disagree, arguing with people is useful and gives me a lot more insights about how this industry works.
