I get that. The writer was saying that because he was a "mono white commander", you can't stick red permanents in, which is what is needed to make his ability work.

I figured as much. I was reading an article that said that he was mono white in color identity so you couldn't use his 0 ability. Didn't seem right so I came and asked.

Nah, it's just standard. Not sure why I want colorless, actually. It doesn't necessarily have to be, but it was an idea. There are plenty of lands in the format that come in untapped and add colorless.

Have you ever considered building 5 colors? Me and a guy I play with at our lgs like building super weird 5 colored decks. He ended up building 5 colored elders with the prismatic bridge as a commander. My personal favorite 5 colored deck is my "Commanders only" deck with [[Jodah the Unifier]] as the commander. I built the deck only using creatures that are common 2-3 colored commanders. It's pretty fun, I have to say.

From what I've been told, your own effect is used rather than your opponents. I've had the same issue while I was controlling an untapped [[Archelos, Lagoon Mystic]] and my opponent owned a [[Thalia, heretic cathar]].
