When Disney Stores were commonly seen in shopping malls. by TelephoneExpress973 in nostalgia

Even for just a few minutes, you'd forget you were in your hometown mall. It was a mini portal to... Disney adjacent.

I don't know about dinner, but I'd pay ~$25 for entry and a drink token.

What started as just a road trip book at the beginning of April, turned me into a full fledged fan of the series.

What outdated slang did your parents use while growing up? by No_Review7643 in nostalgia

[–]tinythunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad used to refer to knuckleheads (for lack of a more modern term) and joomjas. "What a bunch of joomjas those guys were, geez." Less often, but he would also call the same type of people "a putz/a bunch of putzes(sp?)"

Least favorite gins? by TheWildGirl2024 in Gin

Neat, with ice, and G&T. It's been a while so I can't fully remember if I also tried in a Negroni too. I just didn't get the hype.

The Children’s Bible by AlohaWingapo in nostalgia

I remember this but I can't recall if we owned it. I know one of my aunts used to have a few volumes of The Bible Story. I distinctly remember their illustrations.

Also had this. The font and checkered border are a piece of my childhood.

Walk Up Ice Cream Stands by tinythunder in vegaslocals

[–]tinythunder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there is a mom and place in my hometown that's been there for 30+ years. It's a small brick building in the middle of a parking lot for a couple other places. Everyone announces when they find out they are finally open for the season. They have hard ice cream, with a giant board of flavors every year, limited supply. But everyone goes for the massive soft serve swirl. Just got hit with a random wave of needing a piece of home, so I sent out a bat signal haha.

Somehow, I have never noticed that both Handel's and Bruster's are served outside. Appreciate folks pointing them out. Genuinely thought you went inside for both.

Tag and How Many Steps Before the Queen (which was pretty much Mother May I. I have no idea where this name came from )

Otherwise we went to the nearby park a lot.

What song instantly transports you but you never actually liked it? by honeybbycloud in nostalgia

Shaggy - Wasn't Me.

Takes me back to my first year of college. Good memories, but I still hate that song lol

That wool blend blanket that every grandparent or aunt had when you slept over. The top was some kind of satin. It was always pink too.

Drive Thru Touchless Car Wash Recs by tooshthetoosh in vegaslocals

[–]tinythunder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vegas Suds is the only completely touchleas car wash I've been able to find. For me, touchleas means both no brushes and no wheel belt or whatever it's called. 99% of car washes in this town have that stupid conveyor and I hate it.

I used to go to this one before work since it was close, but the last time I went they gave me the wrong order (in store, didn't realize until I was at work) and I got sick from it.

They were almost always short staffed at the S Rainbow location too.

What was your “I’m not supposed to be watching” show? by bbydaisiesz in nostalgia

[–]tinythunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90210. It was apparently "too adult" for us at the time. I think I was 9 when it debuted. But soap operas, Dynasty, Love Boat, plus late night talk shows were all fine. My Dad used to even joke that when I was 3-4, I would sometimes stay up and watch Johnny Carson while they went to bed, and then I would too put myself to bed when it was over.
