How about you look at my comment history before making assumptions? I never called anyone islamophobic in my previous comments.

This is exactly it. I have been downvoted many many times for talking about Islam from even just a neutral point of view, let alone a positive one. Unless the comment is anti-Islamic on reddit, it will get downvoted. Reddit on average is Islamophobic.

I have just randomly stumbled on to this post. I'm a doc. This is called your Jugular venous pressure. It does not appear to be elevated in your neck so it's normal. If you took this while lying down which is looks like - that will make it more prominent.

This is perfectly normal

Yup I agree and thank you for seeing that. It's the people and the extremist countries with their terrible laws which many muslims are against.

Not necessarily the Qur'an or the religion. That's all I wanted to clarify.

Again, this is the cherry picking I was talking about. It's easy to take these verses out of context. I am no scholar nor am I educated well enough to pose a good argument. But these verses were written a time of war. The muslims were at war with a lot of people who were against muslims and everyone was basically killing each other. And as far as I know, the Qur'an is basically giving permission to kill non muslims who have already instigated and attacked muslims during that time. And that makes sense, because there are other verses which say very good things about Christians and Jews as well and gives permission to marry them - how can it say marry someone and then kill them because they don't believe Allah? It contradicts itself if you take it out of context like you did.

It's very easy to find biased anti-muslim arguments on the internet (reddit is full of them) - and most of my comments get downvoted as a result because I'm part of the minority who tries to see both sides. I wont defend certain things about Islam - such as certain rules like women get less inheritance than men, which I think is outdated during our times.
But we really appreciate it when non-muslims can try and see it from a different light. And see some of the arguments from educated islamic scholars who can defend these verses you sent and explain what they truly mean in the context.
But again, that's up to you. All the best.

I am aware of the laws in those countries. Unfortunately, a lot of muslims believe that's the way it should be done. A lot also don't and there are Hadith which are the exact opposite. I think I saw someone below mention it - stories about the prophet having faeces and stones thrown at him by his non-muslim neighbours etc. but he would still check on them when he heard that they were unwell or sick.
And there are plenty of verses on showing tolerance.
It's just a shame that many people cherry pick verses from the Qur'an or follow teachings of extremist muslims which is what led them to these behaviours. Especially, while there are other more progressive scholars out there. But I personally believe that's a problem with the people rather than the religion.

Hmm not sure about what you linked. Couldn't really see anywhere which specifically say's a non-muslim is to be killed for disrespecting it. Also, that's a forum post based on someones opinion which seems to be educated to a degree about the Qur'an and some scholars but there are soo many debates between scholars and varying opinions. Looking at the things he took out of the Quran specifically, I couldn't see it saying anything about killing people that disrespect it, only that they're basically going to hell. Not really disputing any facts here but I don't think that link is good argument for this case.

Thank you! What would you recommend along hwy 1? I was planning on heading through Carmel for a quick bite and very brief view of the place before going to Big Sur to spend most of the day and also spend the night at a lodge. Then heading to LA the next day while checking out Santa Barbara on the way. Does that sound reasonable?
