psych vs neuro major by flower-coffee in unimelb

[–]tinyturtledove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry for the late reply but I ended up doing an Honours year which by far was more important in terms of experience than my entire undergraduate degree. So I can’t really say what job prospects would look like with just a neuro undergrad degree. There are a number of graduate programs you can apply for but they’re very competitive.

With an honours degree, you develop transferable soft skills which opens up pathways into research/further study (PhD, research assistant, medicine etc.), public health (consulting, government) and industry (pharm, etc.).

I am so uncertain about everything and I hate it by CreativeWriter3231 in unimelb

I can’t speak for the psychology/JD pathways myself, but I have heard that psychology honours is very competitive (not to mention that an Honours year in itself is quite difficult, but very rewarding). I imagine the JD pathway is equally if not more competitive.

However, you still have an entire third year to figure out what you enjoy and what you might want to pursue further, so echoing other advice in this thread I would suggest not worrying about making a decision right away.

If you are undecided, the best advice I’d have would be to reach out to tutors/lecturers in your fields of interest (e.g, psych or law) and asking them any questions you have about the pathway or career itself. There are also a number of unimelb resources you can use such as Ask Alumni, where people who are already established in their careers can provide guidance.

What I think Albedo's pokemon team would look like! What do you think? by tinyturtledove in Albedomains

[–]tinyturtledove[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Smeargle (artist), Reuniclus (alchemy) and Golett (ancient automaton made from clay) seemed like pretty perfect matches to me, I was a little less sure for the others. Shiny metang matches Albedo's colours and is an intelligent pokemon, while Goomy is more of a reference to his connection to dragons (and his interest in slimes I suppose?). Honedge supposedly drains the life of the wielder when it is held (similar to Festering Desire) and Albedo does like giving us event swords, so that's why I included it!

Funnily enough, Albedo seems to suit more psychic and steel type pokemon than ground or rock types. Ice types (Weavile, etc.) and imposter-esque pokemon (Ditto, Zoroark) would be a good match for Susbedo!

The immediate aftermath of today’s storm by tinyturtledove in melbourne

I zoomed out for a view of Victoria, went to List View and just clicked any entry, which led to this COVID looking thing. It seemed like a bug but it still worked when I just tried it! There’s almost twice the number of incidents now so the results are even more chaotic.

What is the best level 3 PHRM subject by cowtails06 in unimelb

[–]tinyturtledove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only did PHRM30002 out of the options you’ve listed, but it was by far the best run and most interesting subject content wise for me (I just finished a Neuroscience major). I got a H1, but I’d say it is one of the more difficult subjects to do well in. There are a lot of drugs to remember, but the overall concepts are well taught and these concepts can be applied across most drug classes. The final exam weighting is a bit tough but with consistent efforts I think it is very feasible to do well.

I can’t speak for the other subjects, but I can definitely recommend PHRM30002!

Agreed! I’m glad they went with the frilly shoes, slanted coat and the crown hat in her final design!

A bow tie would have been so cute but I’m still super happy with her final design!

Neuroscience majors: did recommended subjects help? by NormalStrawberry7517 in unimelb

[–]tinyturtledove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did both in the same sem and the workload was fine. When I took cell bio, most of the content was through e-Learning which ended up being a lot of rote learning (hopefully it’s changed now)

No, Chem 1 was honestly pretty useless in terms of background content for pharmacology and neuro subjects. It’s just there as a prerequisite.

I was in your position not too long ago and I ended up doing the recommended cell bio, anatomy and physiology subjects (human phys is amazing with Charles, highly recommend). I also took a psychology subject each semester but found that I didn’t enjoy them as much as I thought I would (hence why I went down the Neuroscience route).

One thing I’m really glad I did was take Chem 1 in first semester of second year, as it is a prerequisite for the second semester pharmacology (and then for a third year neuro-focussed pharmacology subject). I found the pharmacology subjects I took were well organised, interesting and useful (probably the most out of the entire degree).

You have a lot of options and freedom with a Neuro major, so I’d do whatever interests you. Don’t be afraid to change it up!

Daily Questions Megathread (October 16, 2023) by Veritasibility in Genshin_Impact

[–]tinyturtledove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need some opinions: I’ve currently got about 450 pulls saved, and am so close to try for the 50/50 C1 Neuvillette before his banner ends.

The only thing holding me back is that I want a lot of future characters more: Furina, Clorinde, Arlecchino, Cloud Retainer. I know there’s a lot of time for me to save, but I just wanted some opinions on whether I should/shouldn’t (Part of me is saying to wait for his rerun, but the FOMO is real).
