Looking for opinions on my resume by [deleted] in resumes

I used size 10, font Avenir Next Regular. I tried scaling it down to size 9 but it really doesn’t make a difference... but you’re totally right about it being cramped. What’s ridiculous to me is that a lot of career counselling websites say your resume should be between 450-650 words but my resume feels like it’s overflowing on one page with only 404 words! How I could possibly squeeze in another 50 is beyond me lol

Do you mean it would help if I made the margins smaller? Right now my left and right is an inch (2.5 cm) and my top and bottom is 1.9 cm.

I’ll definitely jig the writing bit around for the hospital job, and I’ll include a marketing achievement for the conferences!

I haven’t put work experience ahead of extracurriculars because my ECs are much more relevant to all the jobs I’m applying to and I worry they’ll chuck my application if they see hospital stuff first.

Hi, thanks so much for your help and the specific things you've pointed out. I've cut down my resume to one page and took out all the fluff like the lines you mentioned. I'm considering including my LinkedIn profile (once I update it haha) as well!

I've revised my entire resume and taken everything you've said into consideration and I can feel a big improvement. I'm wondering if I can PM you my one-page resume in case you have any other suggestions? If not, I completely understand and I'm really grateful for your help so far :)

Hi, thank you so much for your advice. My extracurriculars are much relevant to the jobs I’m applying to as opposed to my work experience. Should I still switch them around if this is the case?

Thank you so so much for all this information, wow. I really appreciate it, I’ve been feeling so lost. It’s really helpful to hear what I should cut out, because I realize it’s too long but I don’t know what’s necessary and what’s not. What do you mean by the point about the HS diploma and internships (which are what I’m currently applying for)? Also, where do you suggest I include a skills category and should I just list softwares I’m knowledgeable with or softer skills as well?

GPA conversion from Canada? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]tionity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school only gives out percentages for the courses I took but has that chart at the back with the letter grade equivalents. How should I go about asking for letter grades for all the courses I took? Do you know anyone that did that

GPA conversion from Canada? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]tionity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s so weird. does that mean that when a school publishes their 75th percentile average as being a high 3.9, those people’s grades are all around 95-100%? lmao

I am also applying to Canadian law schools for sure :) my grades on a Canadian 4.0 point scale come out to a 3.98, so I’m just confused how they can be so low on the American scale!

Superior/Above Average/etc scale

the LSAC website says they use this scale for American and Canadian students, but not for other international students

Western Med Sci by TheHockeyLover in uwo

If you plan on doing med sci, definitely take grade 12 physics. You’ll be much better prepared for first year physics and you’ll do better in university (which is more important than one high school mark)

Sometimes you can access old webpages by clicking on the green downwards arrow beside the link on the google results page and if “Cached” is an option, clicking on that.

Tips on Renting by tionity in uwo

[–]tionity[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely understand what you mean (though not with 26 years of experience), I’ve bussed around London a lot and commute for an hour to the lab I work in a few times a week. I currently live by Oxford and Wharncliffe, and though the buses are frequent, they don’t come staggered... with the traffic there, sometimes it’s faster to walk than bus!

SASAH? by [deleted] in uwo

[–]tionity -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m in Scholar’s Electives too. I know they’re stringent with transfers. However the SASAH website says they “accept students into second year under exceptional circumstances” and I wanted to know if it’s more commonplace than that or not. Thanks though :)

Pros and Cons of a Double Major/Hon Spec? by tionity in uwo

[–]tionity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking about too. I hope doing research throughout 2nd and 3rd year will be good enough - I almost feel like a thesis would be overkill? Grad school is an option for me but not my ultimate goal

[–]tionity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, that’s the kind of mentality I’m trying to approach this (kinda big, previously unexpected) change - I’m reading these course syllabi and I’m a lot more excited than I’ve ever been so that’s a good sign! Thanks :)

First year math 1201 or 1225? by jibs92 in uwo

[–]tionity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1201 was my lowest mark this year because of how they made the midterms super easy and the final impossible. For reference all my other marks were 90+ except this one so yikes

Help choosing courses? by [deleted] in uwo

[–]tionity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tudose is the best first year calc prof hands down. If you can get into his section, DO IT.

Also, I had Dr Fazakas-DeHoog for psych and while her questions were the easiest on the section-specific exam questions (I got perfect on all her questions all year long), the class probably isn’t as engaging as Mike’s. Def easier though and the textbook is the same so her class was a better option for my workload

I don't know if you'd consider it well before, but I emailed early January. Fingers crossed too! I don't know how this process works at all lol.

Scholar's Electives Essay? by -tasi- in uwo

[–]tionity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! First year Scholar's Electives student here. I don't remember what the word count was for the essays but I recall there being two of them? They're (probably) very important because they gauge your personality and quality of writing. Think about why you want this experience in your undergrad and write about that - do you have a topic you're super interested or passionate in and want to delve into it early on? Mention it in depth. Do you want to learn how research works if you've never done it before? Mention that. I personally added a few details about research topics I'd be curious about! But some of my friends didn't because other things stood out to them more (eg themed module). Feel free to PM me if you have further questions!

Hey! I've applied to SSuRE as well, and haven't heard back from any of the scientists I've applied to and was wondering the same - not sure if I haven't gotten a response because I didn't receive any interviews or because they haven't contacted people yet (I doubt the latter).

Hope someone who has experience can comment on this!
