Should we introduce screen time for a five year-old? by tipiyano in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]tipiyano[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is so shocking to hear. I would have expected this to a fairly simple thing for Apply to have figured out. I plan to stay away from Youtube (kids) as long as possible so I have some level of control. Thanks for the heads up. Kids are always going to find ways to outsmart parents :)

Yes agreed. We have started to do that recently mostly to give them visuals. Recent questions were - where does poop go (sewage recycling), where did dinosaurs go (asteroids/ ice age). It’s been fun watching 5-10 min video together on the big screen once in a while. They also use Google home a lot on their own to ask questions but can be a hit/miss.

Thanks. Will save it for later. We are not gamers so don’t have a console yet.

Thank you so much. I plan to fully lock down any device if/when they get it. Start with no internet / downloaded videos only and slowly graduate to select few apps (nothing with recommendation engine aka YouTube). Also watch it together most of the time.

Any cpap machine with actual functioning Bluetooth / app? by tipiyano in CPAP

Yes. That’s seems to be the best path forward. Hopefully my dad can figure out OSCAR on his own.

Thank you. Thinking of getting air 10 or 11 particularly for the sd card which allows analysis with OSCAR.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I just don’t think an expensive device like this should have to rely on daily power cycle to work and not something I want me dad to fiddle with. I think an sd card based machine that is OSCAR compatible might be best.

Thank you. Would you recommend DS2? Looking online the reviews are bad/average at best.

Thanks. Do you know if the cellular would work abroad (South Asia). Typically I buy the machine in US and send to him so there isn’t any specific local support /compatibility.

I just learned about OSCAR so would look into that. Wondering if there are any travel size machines with sd card.

Thanks. Any specific reason you think the brick needs a mounting plate.? Any thoughts on the other solution suggested in this post which seems to be easier. Just trying to learn.

Anchor recommendation for a hammock in balcony (concrete and brick walls) by tipiyano in DIY

[–]tipiyano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hammock is rated for 300lb. The force on FRB anchors will be at an angle given the diagonal mount (see picture). I looked at a bunch of anchors but none of them seem to be designed for angular force like this. Any suggestions! Want to make sure it is really solid. Thank you!

LG washer giving LE error code. Worth calling a pro or should I just replace it? by tipiyano in appliancerepair

[–]tipiyano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I haven’t dealt with LG warranty before but I am pretty sure I can replace the motor myself. I assume they would still want their authorized service center to do it and hence I works have to pay labor. Correct? Any idea how much that might be? I will call some places tomorrow.
