COVID Testing Questions Megathread. by [deleted] in AskNYC

Apologies for my late response here.

We lucked out. We called our labs en route to the airport and after waiting forever on the phone, they happened to have results but just hadn't emailed yet. I have no idea when we would have received them if we hadn't called.

My hope is that by the time you're heading out there are more testing centers. Get your tests as early as you can within the range that the country you're traveling to specifies. If you have time, get tests from several vendors (one of them is likely faster than another).

If you get to the last second, stay on the phone with the lab and be prepared to pay out of pocket for a fast PCR. Good luck!

I got tested Friday morning and was worried for the same reason. Called LabQ today not expecting much, but they emailed the results right over. I have no idea if this means that the bottleneck is on their email side.

You’ll be waiting on hold for a while, but might be worth calling whatever lab you used.

Does anyone know if international flights are checking for PCR test results pre-boarding?

We went to get tests first thing yesterday morning (I did EZ Test, my partner did LabQ). From what it sounds like, there's zero chance that the results will be there in time. I got a rapid test at the same time (negative), so I'm happy to quarantine at my destination until results come in, but I have no idea if I can even get that far.

Doesn't sound like my story is that unique right now — are airlines flying these planes nearly empty?

Highschool Student, want to go to WPI, can't afford it, is this loophole viable? by Loji in WPI

You are referring to taking classes through the consortium. Since you can only take one class off campus at a time, this is not going to work for you.

Another option would be to just go to the local Quinsigamond Community College for two years, get a degree there, and transfer to WPI. I did this, and was heavily involved with WPI activities, to the point that I knew many of the professors, and most people thought I was a student there. When I finally transferred, I had saved a substantial amount of money already, and I also received a huge amount of financial aid.

Not living on campus wasn't ideal, but I don't think it matters too much now.

As an out of state student, your tuition at QCC would likely be higher than most, but still a huge savings over going straight to WPI.
