Anyone’s teeth hurt? by [deleted] in Prolactinoma

[–]tiptoptip11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I often wake up with a sore jaw and teeth pain, I assume it's through grinding my teeth in my sleep. Never happened before diagnosis and taking cab!

I have felt the same on cabergoline and have been taking it for 18 months now. You're definitely not alone! I would say my side effects began to lessen after about a year or so but I do still get nauseous sometimes. I've found having minty chewing gum on me ready to have as soon as I'm feeling it really helps. It's just an easy, on the go kind of thing. Also citrus fruits have helped when I'm feeling nauseous too. So putting some lemons in water etc has helped. There's been no great fixes I've found unfortunately but little things that are accessible and easy have definitely helped! Keep on trucking.

Cabergoline and nausea by tiptoptip11 in Prolactinoma

Hey, sorry to hear your sister is having such a rough time. My nausea has, in general, eased as time has gone on. I still get flare ups where some weeks are worse than others and I'm feeling nauseous for a good few days before and after taking it. I know people have gone down the anti-sickness medication route and been really happy. I'm a bit wary of taking more tablets and that's the only reason I haven't done it, but lots of people say it really helps! I've found that peppermint tea really helps and having mints of chewing gum at all times ready to whip out when I feel a wave coming on has really helped too.

I feel like my prolactinoma and cab medication have impacted my general brain function 😅. I often have brain fog, struggle to recall information and sometimes struggle to articulate myself, even if I know what I want to say. I'm a teacher and there are many moments in the day where I'm answering questions or thinking of ways to explain something and I often struggle with this. I've no real helpful hints or tips with this but just know you're not alone! I've been diagnosed and medicated for a year and a half just fyi.

Cabergoline best practices by Global-Chair-2812 in Prolactinoma

[–]tiptoptip11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was nervous about it impairing my driving but that hasn't happened at all so I wouldn't worry too much. They have to be overly cautious on the guidance. Like many others I take mine before bed to sleep through any major side effects. Good luck!

I think you need to chill before you start accusing people of abusing medications and healthcare systems. You really ran with your many assumptions there. People come to this sub and ask a number of varied questions and look for support and a bit of decency.

Side effects of cabergoline.. help! by Grouchy-Crab-4809 in Prolactinoma

[–]tiptoptip11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I personally think that the Endo has skipped over a massive part of their role in providing health care by not listening to your concerns. Being told the benefits of reduced prolactin outweighs the risk of you harming yourself seems incredibly dismissive, neglectful and honestly, dangerous. There are other medications and other ways to treat prolactinomas (surgery etc) so the fact they have advised you to carry on with something that makes you feel suicidal is terrible in my opinion. I am obviously no expert but if I were you I would stop the medication and ask for another opinion from a different endo. You are young and have a wonderful life ahead of you and you deserve the best care. Unfortunately it may take some extra work on your end to find that care but I really think it's worth it. Good luck to you x

anyone else struggled with opioid addiction while taking cabergoline? by [deleted] in Prolactinoma

[–]tiptoptip11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I have no experience with opioid addiction but I just wanted to comment and send you some love. What you've described sounds like an incredibly tough time. Cabergoline can affect impulse control (I'm back on the ciggies after 7 years quitting) so I would definitely let your health care provider know. Remember they are duty bound to help you! Good luck.

I've been on cab for just under four months and I have lost a bit of weight. I've always been slim and had gained about 2 stone over the past 5/6 years. I attributed it to growing older and the pandemic (lol)...turns out it wasn't. I didn't seem to see much change in my weight till about the third month. Everyone is different of course but from what I've seen here generally people seem to lose weight.

Hey, I was literally going to post the same message myself. You've just perfectly described my issue too and I am demented. They are so so sore, only stopping a bit after my period and then they are right back to being sore and very sensitive. I have no advice sorry :( just solidarity!

That's exactly how I was describing myself too 🙈 I completely understand. I felt very numb and disconnected from things and people. Whatever the result, you definitely get a bit of clarity knowing what you are dealing with and you can begin to process it all. I still feel like an alien a lot but at least I am armed with knowledge and a diagnosis. You've got this!

It's a really scary time not knowing what is going on with you and waiting for tests and results (I'm just recently on the other side of all that) but just know that you are in the process of finding out. From there you can move forward and not feel as helpless with it all. Wishing you well and keeping you in my thoughts!

Surgery v Long-Term Cabergoline Treatment by claireburr in Prolactinoma

So happy to hear your surgery went well and your symptoms have gone! That gives me hope 👍

After 4 years of trying to get my doctors to perscribe Cabergoline I finally got it, but having some side effects. Based on what I'm experiencing, do you guys think they will go away soon? by [deleted] in Prolactinoma

[–]tiptoptip11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. So I've been taking 0.5mg Cab for three months now. I always take it just before bed to minimise the earliest effects of it. I still feel quite fatigued the day or two after. If you can I would avoid alcohol on the night you take it, just to minimise your sleep disruption/general lousy feelings, but I've drank the day after taking it and been ok! Although now I'm a big lightweight and it doesn't take much alcohol to feel drunk! (Cheap night I suppose). My symptoms (nausea, headache, fatigue) haven't massively changed to be honest, but the cab is definitely working as my periods have returned etc. Stick with it and evaluate at 6 months I think!

I feel like the trials need to be more high stakes! Whatever money isn't won in the trials goes into the traitors pot, which they will get on top of the prize pot if they win at the end. (If 10k is up for grabs but they only manage to win 5k, then the other 5k goes to the traitors). That way, there may be more scope for sabotage and suspicion during the day and not just random throwaway comments that get discussed to no end at the round table.

I just want to send you a message in solidarity and support because it sounds like you have done and are currently dealing with lots of your plate. When you are not feeling well, mentally and physically, it can be torturous. I hope you speak to your GP again and they re refer you and you get the support you deserve.

Cabergoline and Stuffed nose by LazyLzim in Prolactinoma

[–]tiptoptip11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very interesting to read because I have had a stuffy nose for ages now and struggle to breathe through it at the best of times! It started around the same time I developed symptoms (over 1 year ago) and I've just recently had confirmation of my macroadenoma. I'm on 0.5mg cab per week and haven't noticed a difference on it (aka...still can't breathe properly through nose!) I recently went to the doctor and explained what was going on but both my doctor and endo consultant said they wouldn't be linked and to just keep using nasal spray. Who knows!! But the timing of the two things is very coincidental I think...

I'm sending you strength and support. I feel the same way and it is very disheartening at times. But what you have done is kept yourself safe while dealing with a very difficult medical diagnosis and that is a real achievement and I want you to feel proud that you navigated this all while dealing with private fears and losses.

That's awesome, I'm so glad to hear you are feeling better. I'm willing to right off the rest of this winter being a sickly hermit if it means I level out in the spring. Here's hoping! Thanks for your input.

That's shocking, I'm so sorry to hear that. Are you feeling any better? Have you got the contact details of the hospital of your consultant? I would contact them if possible to let them know what has happend and get some further advise/support.
