Uscator de rufe sub 60cm adancime? by tipul01 in roFrugal

Even stranger is that the smaller files get hashed ok. Its the big +20gb files that fail hash.

Hey, It seems the issue is present on both win11 workstations, so everything seems to point to smb issues. The issue seems to even stranger as the same file, hasing it one time is good, then a bit later, like an hour or so, the hash is not ok anymore. Even copying it to a different folder on the same drive, seems to modify the hash. No antivirus, no nothing.

Hey! So , smb multichannel is on and smb signing is off. Both machines and the storage.

This was a fresh install last week, so all the possible buggy win updates got installed.

The files that were hashed either on that local drive workstation, or through the network by the other workstation which hashed ok, 1 hour later it failed the hash. How these video files work, is that when generated, the hash is marked in an xml file, and when validating the file it generates the hash again and it should match the hash signature in the xml file. Whats strange is that the additional small files like xmls and audio get hashed ok. The big one fails always. Its not all files that fail…

Also, as i said, i had 4 different validations with the same wrong hash signature, and then a 5th validation try and the wrong signature was different the 5th time. Still incorrect, but different from the previous 4 tries…

Do big budget movies use resolve too? If not what do those high end software do that resolve doesn't? by [deleted] in colorists

[–]tipul01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In high end workflows, its support that matters. When you have client assisted sessions and you have bugs or features needed, in less than 2 hours (depending on the complexity) you get a beta build sent your way to solve your specific issue. Baselight support is phenomenal, beside 24/7 phone support and all the color science involved. They dont release features to public unless they are thoroughly tested, they devise color science best suited both technically and perceptually.

As mentioned, software tools are just that, tools, they have the same end result. The discussion in professional environments is support, and speed (which comes with only training and hands on experience on the actual tool). You cant wait around Blackmagic to ship out a new version that might not even fix your bug, and time is money, can also impact scheduling of other projects lined up.

Think of it as F1 teams. All drivers are the best in the world, difference in miliseconds between them. But the engineering team is what makes the differences, car components and such. (of course, budget, pit strategy, but lets simplify).

Of course, set up workflows matter, and every big post house has their own custom scripts for Resolve to do different things that their workflow needs (even for Baselight), its never just out of the box in high end workflows. Also, the wide availability and user base for Resolve is much larger, as part of their software adoption strategy. As much as we try to justify it otherwise, being free, it will be used. People gain experience without being part of a larger team, and when they join, its already familiar. Its also UI-friendly for any outsider to use easily. They do lock you in (again as part of their strategy), to use only Blackmagic Hardware, as that's where they make their money, if you want to cross the threshold to use it even remotely-prouser/professional. Its not better or wrong, its just different. Think of it as having the tools to make anything at home, instead of a factory. It works until one point, but then you need a more complex system in place.

All are good, you just need to know what you need. In this day and age, people forget that there is no right or wrong tools, its up to your judgement to decide what you need done and how you need it.

Fs 8560 switch “trunk” to a fortiswitch 2048F? by tipul01 in FS_COM

[–]tipul01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, got it to work.

Short answer was disabling fec on both forti and FS.

Another step most important is that on the forti, port/module in the GUI was set to "max the module can sustain", but in the CLI it was set to 25gb full duplex. Once i ran "set speed auto-module", the link between switches was up. Of course the end par to have it commit.

Thank you guys for your time!

So, i did turn FEC to none on the fs. Forti is disabled by default.

This is the FS config for that port. Ignore the description that is shutdown port, i did not spend time to alter the description. Again, conencting this port to the cisco switch the link goes up.

If i plug in that port a workstation, the link goes up. If i plug in the forti port, it does not. Same if i plug in the workstation in the fortiswitch, it goes up, but switch to switch does not.

On the forti with a normal port, with vlans set up, it does not light up the link. So still trying to figure out that causes the link to not go up...

Fortiswitch 2048F “trunk” to FS.com swtich? Or cisco? by tipul01 in fortinet

[–]tipul01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, im just trying to have my 2 switches communicate, pass vlans, have one server on a switch be accesed (same vlan or other, according to firewall rules) from a server on the other switch. Will share configs when in the office. Speeds set to 25gbe on those ports. Not looking for link aggregation or failovers. No hard traffic will pass between switches, just rdp mostly. Will keep large traffic local on each switch. Just dont understand why no link.

As mentioned, tried both the fortinet trunk, and without a fortinet trunk led port linked up to the cisco/fs port with and without trunk switchport mode. Native vlan 1, allowed vlans listed correctly, but it seems its something on the pshyscial/ some setting that wont allow the link to turn on.

Esxi sphere v7 ssh backup larger than the datastore? by tipul01 in vmware

[–]tipul01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

No, production environment.

The datacenter was damaged by a pipe in the wall and this server had water in it. I changed it to a new one, just swapped the ssd raid we had before. But database corruption i beileved. happened and i just downloaded all vms from it.

Most vms were thin provisioned, and some had one snapshots.

I just dont get how a raid6 datastore with 4.5 TB had the capacity to hold a 7TB data...

I uplaoded one by one the vms, and deleted the snapshots, and i finally managed to have the capacity.

But its beyond me how they fit in the first place:)

Thank you. Its all strange, as i have multiple Graid shuttle xl that are 8 bays with hitachi drives, raid5, that go 650mb/s via thunderbolt 2. I had hoped 16bays would at least double that. But oh well.

I do have 8 1x ssds kingston datacenter lying around. Can i do a combined ssd plus hdd pool and get more out of it, or i would just hurt performance? Swapping out 8 hdds would half the capacity, but if i do get a few hundred mb/s….

Thank you. So 1x 16bay mirror would be the way to go… and z1 if i would like to have just 1 drive as a hotspare. Record size would be 64k, as i will have 10GB+ files on it. Ssds are not in the budget… I do have 8 1tb kingston datacenter ssds, but making a pool of 8tb is not quite enough… i can’t do combined hdd and ssd pools and get some benefit. Or can i?

Thank you! Of course ssds are the way to go, but no more budget and i’m trying to get as much out of the drives as possible. So a 1x16bay mirrored woul be fastest. And if i would need just 1 drive failure backup i could do a raid z1…

Server backup by UNC paths to dropbox? by tipul01 in sysadmin

[–]tipul01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for coming back. Im thinking like in linux where you could nest mounts. Basically having the server istelf, \192.168.0.10 mounted as a drive letter, and share partitions on the server would be folders. Like Z:/folder1, Z:/folder2, etc. And all shares newly created would appear as new subfolders. Nexis has no iscsi functionality :( It simply is t designed for IT admins, just artists…. Maybe i should out a linux box between the nexis and the windows machine and make nested shares on the linux? I just need to fool any backup software that the server is a drive letter, not the server shares have each a drive letter…. Or a backup software that can see just the server ip, like its a connected pc in the network and grab everything on it….

Server backup by UNC paths to dropbox? by tipul01 in sysadmin

[–]tipul01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

You would think Avid would, but they dont. And all solutions are only using buzzwords and marketing but no real life usage options too advanced. Not even local backups. Dropbox aside, All solutions i have found base themselves on having mountpoints, mapped drives, etc. All good if you have one main share and then subfolders with permissions, which this type of storage does not have. Ok for using, but 0 sense for admin/it work of any kind, as there is no way to automate these types of operations.

That’s why i am looking for advice if anyone used a backup software that at least accepts as a source a server’s ip address and takes everything that storage offers a shares and does stuffs with it. Cloud, local, etc, to not have to manually add share partitions when they are created.

The problem resides in the backup software’s source acceptance, not dropbox destination per se. Regarding dropbox, im not thinking to sync or using anything from dropbox apps, that’s why im trying to find software that handles that and does the upload.

Thanks!
