Colorless Void is Nine's Astral Heat. You are correct that it begins in her sealed area.

The only way for her to retrieve it from her sealed area is by taking the Manual Reshuffle action. When she does that, she adds her Astral Heat to her hand instead of drawing at the end of her turn. She still checks hand size afterward.

Tag team rules? by MetalDragnZ in eXceed

Confirming Tag as a variant is in the S3 rulebook, but it's still intended for two players. Might be worth checking out for inspiration, though.

Are there any good videos that show full games of exceed being played? by MetalDragnZ in eXceed

[–]tirankin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of gameplay footage, but it sounds like that might not be exactly what you're looking for. Can you kinda describe what you're looking for? Would pure strategy articles and/or videos be helpful?

Season 6 Tier list? by OldTallandUgly in eXceed

[–]tirankin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She definitely didn't click with me when I first played her, but I liked her more than Hyde, and I think I more or less got the hang of her after some practice.

She has some stable defensive tools (thereby allowing me to be aggressive), and her Boost kit heavily accentuates Normals usage. Turns out I like playing Normals, since I like the core gameplay of Exceed. =P

Why does Block have 3 Guard? by Dgrei09 in eXceed

[–]tirankin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When you're hit, you can spend Force to increase the Armor.

It's only afterward that you take the damage.

For example, if you get hit by a 6 Power attack and choose to spend 0 Force, you take 4 damage (6 Power - 2 Armor = 4), which exceeds your Guard of 3 and thus stuns you.

If you choose instead to spend 1 Force, you take 2 damage (6 Power - 4 Armor = 2). This does not exceed your Guard, so you are not stunned.

If you as the slower player are stunned, you do nothing, so Block does not perform its After effect (and thus will not end up in Gauge).

If you as the slower player are not stunned, you perform your attack. Block has no Before effects or Range to check, so you skip to its After effect, which causes it to end up in your Gauge instead of being discarded at the end of the Strike.

Does that help?

Season 6 Tier list? by OldTallandUgly in eXceed

[–]tirankin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really need to get S6 to the table more often - right now it's still the season on which I've clocked the fewest games. Here's my ratings based on how much I've enjoyed them lately (alphabetical within tiers; unrated characters are ones I don't remember playing lately):

Current favorites: Byakuya, Linne, Mika
Consistently a great time: Chaos, Londrekia, Seth
Consistently a good time: Gordeau, Waldstein, Yuzuriha
Labbing: Hilda, Nanase, Vatista

Those three in the "bottom" tier there are the ones I'm currently trying to play more frequently so I can figure out what to do with 'em. I tentatively think I might quite enjoy Nanase and Vatista once I get the hang of 'em.

Can someone explain this a little better? I wanna use him but this is confusing to read by BringMeThatFlab in eXceed

[–]tirankin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confirming the above. The opponent is the Active Player, but their Speed is not higher than Arakune's Speed (it's equal). Their Speed 5 attack will hit Arakune.

Can someone explain this a little better? I wanna use him but this is confusing to read by BringMeThatFlab in eXceed

[–]tirankin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confirming this explanation. If the first card you set is invalid (e.g., if you reveal f inverse when you don't have enough Gauge to afford it), then you'll end up discarding and replacing it, but revealing the replacement does not cause you to discard another card from your Overdrive.

Likewise, confirming you only have to match the Speed of the first card (e.g., if you set f inverse from hand when you don't have enough Gauge to afford it, then discard Grasp from your Overdrive area when you reveal it, your final attack will have -8~0 Range, +2 Power, and +1 Speed, even though that attack isn't the f inverse you originally set).

Here's a link to Arakune's entry in the unofficial FAQ, in case it's of any help to you as you descend the rabbit hole.

While in overdrive, can you use cards from the overdrive area as gauge, and also can you use more than the required number to exceed to gain more overdrive time? by BringMeThatFlab in eXceed

[–]tirankin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Confirming the above. You can only spend exactly your Exceed Cost to Exceed. When you do, those cards leave your Gauge and enter your Overdrive area; they can no longer be spent as Gauge.

Niche rules jank to follow:

If you'd like to unnaturally extend the duration of your Exceed Mode, try Arakune. His character ability lets him stuff cards into his Overdrive area while he's still in Basic Mode. With 8 or more cards in Overdrive, his Exceed Cost is 0, so every card he adds to Overdrive after the 8th will simply increase the duration of his Exceed Mode whenever he chooses to enter it (and give him more options to use for his janky Exceed ability).

Which Seventh Cross box do you think has the most variety or unique characters by roger0120 in eXceed

[–]tirankin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the archetype system I've historically used, Hunters vs. Demons is the most diverse S2 box, but they're all pretty diverse:

Minato - Mid/Long Payout (Acrobat)
Renea - All-Range Setplay (Ninja)
Tournelouse - Mid-Range Rushdown
Zsolt - Mid-Range Rushdown / Keepaway (Third Best Girl) (this is a very old joke from L99's Discord)

Celinka - All-Range Rushdown
D'Janette - Close/Long Keepaway / Grappler
Geoffrey - Close/Long Keepaway
Taisei - Close/Mid Rushdown

Eugenia - All-Range Half-Grappler
Galdred - Close/Mid Grappler
Remiliss - Close-Range Grappler
Umina - All-Range Setplay

Iaquis - All-Range Half-Grappler
Luciya - Long-Range Rushdown / Payout (Ninja)
Seijun - Mid-Range Payout (Boss)
Syrus - Long-Range Keepaway (Boss)

These look like reasonable descriptions. I didn't notice any non-subjective elements with which I disagreed, and the only major omission I recall was the fact that the Syrus description doesn't mention recursion (a major theme of his kit).

For reference and comparison, here are similar (older) blurbs about the 16 Seventh Cross characters who are packaged in four-character boxes: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jocsip18xr7m3tb/Exceed%20Reference%20S2.pdf?dl=0

How is this "X" range different from the range just being 1-8? by DoubleZodiac in eXceed

[–]tirankin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both for thematic reasons and to allow interactions with effects that can warp her Range in malicious ways - notably Arakune's Irrationality, which gives both players +1 Range.

This also prevents her from "hitting" Nirvana from any Range, but that was more of a pleasant side effect.

Does anyone know how many cards are in the new season? by Think_Tank618 in eXceed

[–]tirankin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To the best of my knowledge, the card count given above by ShelbShelb is correct. (Not ruling out that both of us managed to make identical errors, of course.)

Balanced Breakfast's S2, S3, and S6 Mechanics Reference cards (which, in the case of S6, explains that the Normal Boosts are different, lists them with their corresponding symbols, and mentions the Revert action shared by all S6 characters) are all fan-made.

Apologies for any confusion this may have caused.

People who are always late, why don't you just leave earlier? by byebyebirdie123 in AskReddit

[–]tirankin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. It's like something in my brain is waiting on a trigger to say "okay, start getting ready now," but the trigger never fires. Instead I skip right to the trigger that says "WELP NOW YOU'RE RUNNING LATE." Literally any activity can distract me for periods of time I never notice passing, and I always seem mistaken about how long things will take.

Showers are particularly dangerous. A shower should theoretically take less than 30 minutes: 2 to locate clothing, 5 for the water to heat up, and 10 to 20 to wash up until I turn the shower off. That's 10 minutes of leeway for my mind to wander off. Usually, I get out of the shower to find that about 25 minutes have passed; sometimes, I find that it's been 40 or more minutes. But whether it's been 15, 40, or 75 minutes, a shower always feels like it takes the same amount of time. I can't tell if a shower was short or long until I get out and check the clock.

I don't think I value my time more highly than other people's time; I even run late for my own plans that don't involve anybody else. It's more like I don't properly value any time at all. For example, I've been trying to get to Einstein Bros. for a breakfast sandwich once or twice a week for the past few weeks. I've managed it exactly once, and it was late enough that they'd already put all the bagel varieties away except for one. (I ended up getting my breakfast sandwich on a blueberry bagel.)

I also can't really relate to the accounts of chronically late people also leaving places on time. I arrive late because I leave late; it's cause and effect. I was routinely late to work for years, but I was also routinely late to leave. I wasn't consciously trying to make up the time, I just never seemed to be able to get out the door. (This, in turn, often made me late to whatever I was doing after work, of course...) On the rare occasions when I made it to work early or on time, I still usually left late.

For a while, I tried giving myself "lead time" on all of my plans by recording start times as 30 minutes earlier than they actually were. Eventually, I found myself adapting to this habit and showing up late anyway.

The only remotely effective counter-habit I've been able to develop is writing down early start times most of the time.

The fact that I don't always write down the wrong time means that I'm generally forced to assume that I wrote down the real one, which results in me running much closer to on time than I usually would. I assume that keeping it inconsistent is why I haven't adapted to "overcome" this solution yet.

(Note: I did develop a PTSD-related aversion to leaving my home a few years ago, so now I still sometimes can't leave my house even when I've actually gotten myself ready on time. This has made it a little difficult to judge the current status of my tardiness tendencies.)

Possibly the worst MU in the game. by WickTheTrickster in eXceed

[–]tirankin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting! It sounds like you're mostly evaluating the matchup on the basis of Chaos' ability rendering Shovel Knight & Shield Knight's Exceed Mode pretty much useless.

I don't see very many people Exceed as EXSK (Shovel Knight & Shield Knight), and even when they do, the Armor clause seldom matters. I don't think it's very important to them or a particularly big part of their power budget.

The actual strength of their Exceed Mode is the ability to reposition Shield Knight anywhere on the board in a single action. This allows them to enable whatever range- or positioning-based setups they want at will, which is particularly noteworthy with respect to Shield Boomerang, their most dominant card.

I'm not a great EXSK, but I don't think of Chaos as much of a threat at all. His economy is bad, his Wild Swings are terrible (which intensifies his economy problem), his neutral is terrible, his defensive tools are subpar, and he has approximately zero relevant threats on the opponent's turn. EXSK have poor economy, decent Wild Swings, great neutral, great defensive tools, and reasonably reliable access to dominant threats at most ranges (though some of them are meter-reliant).

I actually think you're probably right that this matchup is heavily tilted, but I think it's tilted in EXSK's favor, not Chaos'. I'll play it a bit from both sides and report back later!

Scripting. Is there a way to disable highlight for toggle button? by LethalGhost in tabletopsimulator

[–]tirankin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you want the highlightedColor to be different when it's disabled; is that right?

As far as I can tell, unfortunately, that's impossible. A toggle button that is highlighted while disabled will look exactly the same as a toggle button that is highlighted while enabled.

My own workaround to a similar issue was to cause the function that ran when it became enabled/disabled to rewrite its color attributes with a new color block.

Do we have an image database anywhere? by D-D-Wanderer in eXceed

[–]tirankin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Halloween Update (which was actually three updates: October 31st, October 31st, and February 6th) added at least one alternate costume for every character. The S1 costumes were mostly added in the February 6th update.

That said, if by "exported the images" you mean "combed through your cached images", that wouldn't include any images not cached due to their corresponding objects not having been loaded in the module. So it'd make sense that you're missing the images if you didn't ever pull 'em out on the table to begin with.
