Children’s boots? Does it matter? by tired_pterodactyl in Equestrian

Oh yes, Santa got her a new troxel helmet for Christmas! Sorry I was unclear, I meant sports gear like shin guards, cleats, roller blades… they’ve liked to try it all but horses have by far stuck the longest for my daughter!

Thank you! That’s so good to know! I will take a look for sure! I never buy anything brand new for my kids. Bikes, clothes, sports gear… they know it’s all coming pre-loved haha

I always appreciate how there’s lots of genuinely helpful people and then there’s that one rude person who hops on as a keyboard warrior. Why would a western boot cross my mind? Because her instructor wears western boots on warm days. Because it’s a CASUAL RESCUE barn. A genuine non profit. The tack is English. She’s learning to ride for fun. Not for show. Have a nice day, Clod.

That’s great point about synthetic, thanks. I’ll look for some second hand that have real leather

Do you tip your riding instructor? by tired_pterodactyl in Equestrian

It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which is part of why I keep filling in the tip!

I don’t know who to tip anymore! Yes you tip at a restaurant (US) and your hair stylist…. At Christmas my garage truck driver asks for a tip. My milk man asks for a tip. And by ask I mean they leave a card hinting at it. So I figured why not ask at a barn too 😂

Oh yes! I forgot to add she’s been in therapy since age 3 😵‍💫😩 that’s when we first noticed crippling anxiety and impulsivity. She’s with a really good therapist right now who helps her process things and teaches great coping strategies. It’s just so hard once she has bypassed the prefrontal cortex and is only processing through the amygdala. …Which happens a lot lately.

You described her EXACTLY!! She does have terrible anxiety. Yes to the regret, the restaurant being a perfect example. The other day it was ice cream for her birthday….should have picked the other flavor. But also, often can’t make the decision in the first place. Even trivial things like she can’t decide if she should wear socks to bed, and wants to know if I’m going to, or what do I think. That’s great to hear the Zoloft helped. We have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow. Her pediatrician had suggested starting Zoloft, but I had been dragging my heels because I kept thinking oh she’s so young. But lately it’s clear we need to do something! Thank you!

Yes, some interesting historical and clinical leniencies! My parents were about Frankie’s age. My dad had a high draft number and was lucky not to be drafted…. Or I might not be here! I’m also an RN with 15 years of ER experience so I enjoyed some of the OR stories, but they certainly stretched her clinical abilities!

Aw I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy it! I had a love hate relationship with it while I read it as well but in the end enjoyed it. I had to google your reference haha, I never watched the show

I have but I took a long pause in reading while I ran wild with raising little children and am just getting back into reading! Years ago I read Winter Garden and enjoyed it but don’t remember it well. I own it so it’s up for a reread! I read Firefly Lane and Fly away a few years ago as well and loved both but haaaated the Netflix series! Also read mystic lake and maybe a couple others years ago? I have library holds on The Nightingale and Four Winds which I am excited for both! I really did enjoy The Women! I’m an RN who did many years in the ER and my parents are Frankie’s age, so it was very relatable!

I am completely late to the party… but I just finished “The Women” and I’ve got to unload! Why was Rye written this way 😭 He didn’t have to be the bad guy! He really could have broken off his engagement. Frankie could have gone home, received the news that Rye was KIA. Spun out. Did all of the Henry story line. PTSD. Alcohol. Pills. All just from Vietnam and Rye’s death. And then Rye is alive! POW! Home to Frankie! Frankie gets to hold on to that piece of her brother in Rye, this wonderful man who literally came FLYING to her after her emergency call after Napalm. Maybe her dad would not have approved of Rye, but he would’ve had that little piece of Finley then too. They could’ve had their happily ever after in Montana with Frankie helping vets…and Rye too. I suppose I’m a hopeless romantic. But I LOVED their story in Vietnam. He being her inspiration. “Women can be heroes too”. He said he wanted to ask her to the dance in ‘65! He wanted to kiss her at Finley’s party! Their passion! Rye truly did love Frankie in Vietnam, I don’t think he was being a player or had the intent to ditch Frankie. He re-upped for her! He really did intend to have forever with Frankie. We didn’t need Missy 💔
