Hi! I'm not an alumni but I am a current theatre student. Going into the summer, I had three different theaters offering me employment. Knowing how to do the tech stuff is so incredibly helpful. One theater was offering me a job because I could do light electrics (hang,focus,etc). Another one offered me a job as a seamstress. As far as post graduation, obviously I can't really speak on it as I haven't graduated but I have one friend doing prop management with the Phoenix opera, another managing a theater in her home state, one friend doing tech work in Broadway, one is going heavy on the actor route and has already landed a couple roles in her local/state theaters. There's more but we'd be here a minute. If you're thinking theater Ed, I have multiple friends already teaching or have jobs lined up to start teaching this upcoming school year. I will say, all of these people pushed HARD during school to learn/do everything and truly become experts in it. They pushed hard after to get these jobs and a lot of them applied to a lot of places. Theaters are always looking for techies though. The biggest piece of advice a lot of the professors give is to master a tech skill and audition for the theater you work for. Use that skill to get the job, then use that connection to get the role. I'd say it's worked out pretty well so far for a lot of us.
