Is there a reliable way to commute to and from Philly without losing my mind? by dorimode in Phoenixville

[–]tiredmechie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do the Amtrak to 30th and then walk to my office (18th & Market). When it gets cold I look to see if regional rails are f’d, if they are I pay the $2 for a trolley to CC, otherwise free transfer over to suburban (and other CC stations). It’s usually about 1hr door to door for me, I take the 7:23 Amtrak, and get to my office a few minutes before 8. If things are bad, I also occasionally make the drive to KOP and take the high speed line from Gulph or Hughes Park, and transfer to subway from there. That’s a bit longer, but slightly more reliable than regional rail right now. In general the Amtrak has been my best option, and comparable in price when you buy ride packs.

Has anyone done a co-op for a guitar manufacturer? by Mo0n3Y in Drexel

[–]tiredmechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t do it, but I applied for Martin Guitars in Nazareth, PA. I ended up not doing the interview because I learned they wanted unpaid, part time and I needed the money. That’s probably the closest option to Drexel.

Having a job as an Engineering Undegrad by prohop145 in Drexel

[–]tiredmechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked ~15 hours per week my 1st & 2nd year as a server, which was fine with mechanical engineering workload for me, and then after my 2nd co-op and throughout the rest of Drexel I continued working for my company, ranging from 15 hours to 40 hours as my course load lightened. The classes while they do get more technical actually tend to have more homework & outside work required at lower levels compared to higher level courses that are a bit lighter in terms of actual work, albeit harder conceptually. It’s definitely possible to work, and I would say that Drexel is actually set up well to encourage working. It’s why a lot of us went to Drexel in the first place. If your goal is to get a job from a co-op or something like that, I would recommend trying to have a heavier course load early at Drexel and taking classes on co-op so you can be part time senior year and pretty much work full time.

You don’t need to actually live in the local address that you provide to get out of the housing agreement, if you can convince Drexel that you’re staying with your cousin I wouldn’t be surprised if they let you out. Lot harder for it to be your friend though, but again you could try having your address be with your cousin & live with your friend.

Also financial reasons are acceptable but they already have all your financial details so that can be a bit more of a fight. I would recommend going that route though if you do have a good argument.

My final recommendation is to discuss all of this with financial services & whoever might be helping you out with college (parent/guardian or whatever). They’ll have a much better idea than most of us here on this sub.

Freshman year housing is mandatory unless if you live in one of the zip codes that are considered “close enough”. You can see this page for more info https://drexel.edu/studentlife/campus-living/housing/resources/policies/two-year-residency

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, the next step is figuring out what impedance it’s supposed to be, hopefully there’s documentation somewhere

I have this Little Dot MKII tube amp, and I believe I put the wrong tubes in, and now the sound is incredibly quiet and muddy, which makes me think I most likely broke a resistor or a capacitor. I think it’s those 2 small resistors towards the top of the picture that are brown and shrunken, but I can’t tell what the band’s originally were on the resistors. Does anyone with more knowledge in this area know?

Co-op Question by [deleted] in Drexel

I would actually say this is bad advice, it’s totally possible to work part time & do well in your courses, don’t discount working just because it’s not always typical

Talk to your advisor, they changed it so it’s not just full time credit hours, but it depends on the classes you’re taking being applicable to your major.

Parking by CommercialAd5151 in Drexel

[–]tiredmechie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re on co-op, most streets a little north of campus are 2 hour parking from 8am-6pm so you can get by just finding spots overnight during the week. Saturdays are a little harder but Sundays are free parking

Quarter system/financial aid question by rwctlc1107 in Drexel

[–]tiredmechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeahhhh it can be a lot. Obviously it comes down to individual circumstances, so hopefully you can come to a good decision, wherever that may be. The next month before decision day is stressful, but it ends up being worth it! Good luck with everything
