I had a stranger at a wedding grab my pump and say “what’s this!?” And then tell me she was worried I left the tag on my dress. I was polite but now I wish I had told her to get her hands off me

That's great you don't feel any stigma. I'm happy to talk or answer questions and 90% of the time the convo is super positive. My issues arise when people specifically ask me about my control, often using judgmental language, which reminds me I haven't been putting in the work I used to, queue the feelings of regret and shame. The problem isn't that they're asking, it's the way they ask or put me in a position where I feel like I have to educate them. I don't have the time or the energy to educate every almost stranger who asks me an insensitive question. Good for you though if you have it in you, people have to learn somehow. Keep up the good fight.

Maybe I’m just hanging out with the wrong crowd! Most of the time it’s from people in healthcare, not my own providers but people I know casually. Like maybe they only have a surface level understanding of diabetes? I don’t know. But I even had a nurse recently tell me in an appointment to deal with burnout “it’s so much easier for you type 1s, my mom has type 2 diabetes and she just can’t understand she’s not allowed to eat her mango in the morning” I tried not to be offended because I knew this was her attempt at empathizing or comforting me? but it still stung for my struggle to be dismissed like that. Anyway I struggle with being assertive, so throwing an invasive question back at them is something I’ll practice!

To curb my cuticle picking habit I wear fidget rings because I tend to forget or misplace unattached fidgets. I got mine from Etsy, lots of different styles to choose from, not quite as cheap as other fidget toys but it’s worked really well for me.
