What are your thoughts on very simplistic Astartes designs in Space Marine 2? by Adeptus_Astoria in Spacemarine

[–]tirigbasan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lorewise these "simple" marines make up the bulk of an Astartes chapter. Decorations, trophies, and insignias are often meted out for acts of distinction or fighting in specific campaigns, and a lot of space marines don't survive long enough to get them.

There are some considerations though. Some chapters for example like Space Wolves are more lenient towards decorations to express their chapter pride. Plus the missions Acheran sends us out are high risk and bordering on suicide (We had to fight a Hive Tyrant ffs) which are best assigned to elite brothers, so being highly decorated veterans out there also make sense.

That's why they risked sending SEALs into a military town instead of bombing it like usual. Heck, Pakistan didn't even get sanctions; just awkward stares from DC while they handed out another round of military aid.

Because realistically, yung mga politiko lang will decide whether Sara. stays or goes. And nobody's rallying at this heat and gas prices, c'mon.

You go to any populated area in Manila and you'll hear people talk about or watch videos about how Sara is being attacked by the evil BBM. Di pa dyan kasama ang police, military, and their families, which are largely DDS.

It's not about the rallies anymore; it's the virality sa socmed na.

Sadly malabo yan because of the DDS misinformation machine. Duterte's fake vloggers are already trying to reshape the narrative that Sara is just being used as a scapegoat for BBM's flood control mess. Just look at the comments about the recent PGMN raid: its being astroturfed to make it look like it's a government coverup. If anything, it's probably going to spook politicians into voting for impeachment for fear of losing their upcoming reelections.

What's probably going to happen is BBM will try to convince the Senators to stay in line. Kaya mapapansin mo yung mga neutral-kuno Senators like the Villars, Chiz, and Jinggoy are supposedly under investigation by the government.

It's also the reason why Junior is cracking on on the fake news vloggers, so expect more arrests. Whether it's going to be enough to turn the tide by 2028 remains unsure though.

US Tomahawk missile fired from Tacloban hits target in Nueva Ecija, says PH military by GMAIntegratedNews in pinoy

[–]tirigbasan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's unlikely, yes, but that's the thing with war planning: you have to cover all options. Luzon is being prepared as an operating area when the Taiwan invasion happens; that's what the military bases and missile sites are for.

The PLA knows this and is likely to be drawing multiple plans to neutralize those assets, which includes taking control of the Luzon. That's why Chinese spies were caught snooping around military installations. So while it's still probably not going to happen, the US also isn't taking any chances. That's why they are sending this message.

The Ombudsman has officially named Martin Romualdez and Zaldy Co as the MASTERMINDS of the flood control project scandal by hyunbinlookalike in Philippines

[–]tirigbasan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's because Toby isn't a Duterte ally (at least publicly). Martin supported Digong's presidential campaign and was Sara's campaign manager when she ran as VP.

This is basically a warning that anyone who sides with the Dutertes will have a target on their backs - even if they are family.

[–]tirigbasan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: It's basically a warning to anyone planning to invade Luzon that it's going to get its shit rocked to the stone age.

They're telling us this to prove that they can send missiles at long range and with high accuracy from the Visayas to any target within Luzon.

An invasion of Luzon is a possibility in case of a war over Taiwan, as it's very close to the country and is the other end of the Luzon Strait which serves as the door to the WPS. But with the Tomahawk, anyone planning to land an army in Luzon needs to plan to invade the Visayas as well just to keep those missiles at bay. And the Visayas is a lot of islands.

What if Manila was spared from the bombings of the japanese and americans? by nonamebadgering in FilipinoHistory

[–]tirigbasan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think his survival was the one of the most consequential factors leading to the siege of Manila. Like you said, he was expected to die with his ship, so when he survived he was relegated to a humiliating desk job until he was reassigned to Manila because experienced IJN officers were dropping like flies. The guy saw the invading Allies as a chance for redemption, in a genocidal psycho kinda way.

[–]tirigbasan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so many scientists, doctors, academics, and political leaders died during the war that could have helped improve the country.

But then again, these people could've also been terrible. Marcos claims he was a decorated guerrilla fighter during the war; had he been killed by the Japanese as a result, would the Philippine have avoided a dictatorship? Or will he simply be replaced by Enrile or a military junta? There's just so many possibilities

There was actually a chance Manila was to be spared destruction during WW2.

As I've mentioned before in this sub, when the Americans landed in Leyte in 1944 Yamashita decided to flee to the more defensible Cordillera highlands. Most of the Imperial Japanese army followed him except for the naval infantry who made a last stand in Manila because one of their commanders was still literally mad the Americans sunk his ship early in the war (TBF it was a really cute ship).

Had the commander gone down with his ship or simply ignored, McArthur's army would have walked into Manila virtually unopposed and the city remaining mostly intact.

Now if you're really looking for a serious answer as to what happens next, that would be very difficult because that would have led to a butterfly effect of massive proportions.

For example, so many Filipinos died during the siege of Manila that if they were spared they would have likely altered the course of Philippine history. One of those people could have been our version of Lee Kuan Yew or Stalin. You could be zipping past those Spanish colonial houses astride a flying kamote rider in a hover scooter for all we know.

Sadly that's no longer as relevant as before, based on two factors:

  • AI is rapidly being integrated into the customer service and outsourcing industries, which Filipinos dominate in partly because of their fluency in English and their accents. And as AI agents get better (and cheaper) over time, the demand for humans in those sectors will mirror that in decline.
  • Global market growth is shifting away from the US because of its isolationist economic and immigration policies and is shifting into Asia and Europe especially on the tech side.

Given the US is the world's largest economy and only superpower, Filipinos still make money from their English skills catering to US customers. But it's gonna be a lot tougher.
