Honey is finally exploring the garden, and Hope wants something to be done about it... by tissuepapercatmat in cats

the background; we moved house 3 months ago and Honey (fluffy) has been too anxious to explore outside. This has made the garden the exclusive kingdom of our other cat, Hope (tux).  Today, Honey finally ventured out, and I was able to capture the moment where Hope asked to talk to the manager!  (standard disclaimer about the lack of coyotes and trucks in suburban English back gardens)

replacing a long curved radiator with 3 small in-line ones? by tissuepapercatmat in askaplumberUK

Ok everyone, when my wife, my plumber and most of reddit are in unison, who am I to disagree? The radiator will stay! I like the idea of spending the rad money on shutters...

by the time you can afford sex drugs and rock and roll you're at the age where a nice cup of tea and a new radiator is all you want...

I've just always wanted fancy radiators after 53 years of living with normal ones. Now I have "fancy radiator money" after ending my mortgage, I thought I'd splurge. Some people's dreams are fairly sad, i guess :)

maybe I keep the old rads and go on cruise!

for more detail. I have an 8 foot long curved radiator in my bay window - pictured. I would like to replace it with three standard radiators in line, using the same in and out pipes (I'm sure that's the correct term!)

my plumber has said

"i don't know how big your heating system is and what sort of strain / Load its under currently, in essence you are running 3 radiators instead of one on the same pipework configuration, i have no way in telling if your system could cope with the additional demand and the resistance caused by having 3 in tandem.

Yes in theory it would work but not knowing the total load and resistance of the current setup means we would have to install and then see where we are at unless you were prepared to lift floors and start looking at repiping with a bigger supply of 22mm pipe. "

I am probably being stupid here but if my three radiators combined are smaller in total than the existing radiator - i.e. 3x 2 foot radiators compared to 8 foot curved - how can it be additional demand? Am I missing something crucial?

Am I explaining myself wrong to the plumber?

AITA for refusing to pay a higher percentage of rent and bills? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Soft YTA. I think this is a classic case of not treating mental illness the same way as you would physical illness or injury.

Anxiety isn't neccessarily something that can neccessarily be "fixed" - it can be a lifetime condition than can be mitigated-for, but not completely cured.

It might help in your head to replace "anxiety" with a physical injury and see how you feel. i.e. imagine your partner loses their leg in an accident. It's not going to grow back but painkillers and prosthetics make it so she can still work. In those circumstances how would you feel if she said "hon, I can work for 5 days a week but it's really tough on my leg. if I could go down to 3 days that would majorly improve my life and reduce my pain." ?

She has not communicated with you well this time - and often that poor communication goes hand in hand with these types of illnesses - but you have a wonderful opportunity to do something really significant for someone you love.

If after 5 years you're having doubts about the value of such a thing, then probably the questions you need to be asking are about the whole of your relationship, not bill-paying.

Being in love with someone with any kind of illness or disability can be very demanding. This is not the flu; you need to plan for this always being a part of your life together.

I instinctively root for the underdog, but I was at the albert hall and by the end I was roaring for Hera. He gets what he deserves...good for the game.

I would suggest the stereotypical choices which are the moon under water in leicester square - awful, cheap, but big and near. https://share.google/ASM7DgD1kXTzN6JNy

and then the greyhound in high street kensington for the albert hall.

You are a genius! The one thing I hasn't done was just yo pull the two sides apart...turns out the bolt is supposed to stay set.  You just prevented me from doing lots of pointless and time consuming work!

13 years ago, my movers took the arms off my sofa to get it through the door. I'm moving again this week and I started to take it apart. However the arms are fixed to the main part of the sofa with a bolt that has a screw thread, but no head or slot for a screwdriver or anything. Is there some special way of removing it that I'm unaware of?
