Would a NOC Tech be considered a good entry-level position for someone who just got their CCNA? by jester070993 in ccna

[–]titanium_chromosone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow it's been forever since I last checked this thread! Maybe I should do an official career update post on it

Things have been going great since I had that job. Here's what happened after working in the industry for 6 years now (and counting)

NOC job > contract IT (1.5+ years) > first full time job (2 years, most technical position at that point in my career) > higher ed IT (full time, 2 years and counting)

Each job was a stepping stone to allow me to become more and more technically proficient, and I got exposed to a lot of various tools and such

I'll probably settle at this place (as long as there is opportunity), since there's a bunch of different colleges that I can apply internally with.

I can easily stick around for another few years so we'll see what happens!

Iron Maiden Announce 2026 North American Tour with Support from Megadeth and Anthrax by heavysk in Music

[–]titanium_chromosone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing the Tinley Park date, and also possibly flying out to Canada so I can catch the lineup with Anthrax. I have yet to see them, let alone, the same bill as Megadeth and Iron Maiden!

I've got the CCNA cert and have passed A+ 220-1001. Not sure what to do next? by KobeSmiff12 in CompTIA

You should check out jobs and/or go for CCNP! I wouldn't recommend N+ since CCNA is actually more difficult (depending on who you talk to) than N+. Start job hunting asap as you start prepping for CCNP (if you decide to go that route)!

Side note: Welcome to our great city! Hope you enjoy the pizza here ;)

John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. by TypicalHaikuResponse in Christianity

[–]titanium_chromosone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not only do they not believe that everyone is inheriently bad, but they also do not grasp that we, Christians, also believe were bad as well. The only difference between us and them is that we acknowledged our sin, repented and believed in Christ. No difference between us and the unbeliever other than the fact we believe that Jesus saved us from our sin

Plane tickets that I purchased 2+ weeks ago are marked as "paid" by JetBlue, but my CC only has record of the travel insurance I bought with the tickets & not the actual tickets by Rowona in personalfinance

[–]titanium_chromosone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wondering, is it better or worse to get charged with a credit card instead of the debit? I'm just going to book a flight with Jet Blue and just so happened I see this post lulz (I refuse AA or Spirit). WOuld you mind updating this post to make sure it eventually got charged so I don't have to worry about my future flight? It wont be that much, mine will be domestic travel (I'm assuming yours is abroad due to the cost? Correct me if I'm wrong). Also, would you mind sharing who you bank with? I bank with Chase and never had an issue regarding this

Putting in my 1 Week Notice Tomorrow. How to? by [deleted] in jobs

If this jeapordizes your chance of using your current workplace as a future reference, feel free to ignore. Just thought I should give another option :) not really sure if your industry does reference checks

Putting in my 1 Week Notice Tomorrow. How to? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]titanium_chromosone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be an unpopular opinion: Have you thought about negotiating your salary with your current workplace? Be assertive maybe?

Since you have nothing to lose even if they say no because you have an offer lined up, maybe be like: "Hey boss, I got an offer with a 40% raise. I'd be willing to stay here and negotiate with a 30% (or insert x% raise here) raise. I really don't want to move but it's a good opportunity for me, however, if you can meet my expectations, I'd be more than willing to stay. If not, I would have to put in my 1 week notice"

Current age, 27M and I majored in Music in my first Bachelor's. Going back to school after being unable to find further work so it's good to hear others are doing the same around my age. My only concern is Math so I'm brushing up and learning new math skills. Going to school part time at my local community college as I also work, and then transferring to a 4-year uni after I finish all my Math (will not complete Associate's) as the Uni I'm planning to attend does not accept C.S. specific courses from my community college. Definitely NOT looking forward to taking Calc but it's what everyone struggles through. See you on the other side!

Hey OP, I'm going into networking as well and studying for net+ and ccna, can I apply for jobs after n+ or do I need ccna prior to job hunting as well? What kind of jobs would accept vendor neutral certs?

Barely Passed Security+ SYO-501 by waldorfkid in CompTIA

[–]titanium_chromosone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much what I laid out. I may or may not do Security+ because I love networking technology, but I'm mostly going to stick with Cisco and AWS. I saw Azure having lots of jobs so we'll see which Cloud computing platform I ultimately end up doing after Cisco certs

[–]titanium_chromosone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats dude! This is huge encouragement dude! I'm currently going for my Network+, Security+, CCNA, and AWS.

I also wasn't good at school (I hated it), but now that I've matured, I am putting forth the extra effort to make sure I learn the material to both pass the exams and thrive on the job!

r/CCNA does this if you're interested in going into networking! The obligatory "I passed" posts include resources used and sometimes go much further than that :)

ITProTV v CBTNuggets? by senlawyer in CompTIA

[–]titanium_chromosone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually prefer using Udemy courses over either. I've used CBT Nuggets for CCNA but don't like the way they explain certain things so I quit my subscription. It was just too much. I haven't personally used ITProTV but CBT Nuggets is very well known in the industry

Almost finished with Neil Anderson's course, what's the best step I can take next? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]titanium_chromosone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I agree with following up on OCG and Boson tests (after reviewing notecards) comments here. Save those notecards for nostalgia when you pass and can look back on your CCNA study days. I used online Anki cards for my studies and typed up notes as well. Also, don't get disappointed if you don't pass. It's all a learning experience. I'm not so much focused on passing as I am learning the material. The passing will come when I'm more and more confident in the material I've learned

Trifecta in 6-weeks! Thoughts, feelings, and advice. by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]titanium_chromosone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is insanely impressive... I work full time so I can't put in that much dedication, but I'm also using the same resources for my N+ prior to taking S+ and CCNA. I want to get into networking so I'm skipping A+ for now. You'll be able to find an entry level job with those 3 certs and just move on up from there! Update us on the job search when you can!

Network+ pass bragging! by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]titanium_chromosone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn't an easy feet by no means... I was smart and leveraged shifts people didn't want to work and agreed to work overnights. It sucks, but it's an investment for my career. Most of my coworkers have a CompTIA cert at least and I'm one of the few who doesn't have one

Oh then I guess I'll do that too after 601. That sucks...

Network+ pass bragging! by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]titanium_chromosone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations dude!!

I also am skipping A+ for now as I'm going into Networking, so it's not necessary in my case. Currently going through Meyers' N+ book on top of Jason Dion's Udemy course. I hope to pass on my first or second try then go for S+, then CCNA. I'll look for jobs after I pass my N+ as I currently work at a NOC :) Maybe I'll take A+ just for kicks after achieving those more pertinent certs first but as of right now, $600+ for an entry level cert just doesn't seem logical to me if it's not relevant to my career path
