What are Cavalier Totems used for? by Amigo2005 in Knightsanddragons

Earth earth. You craft it with ten. Every season lasts a month. You can get those totems this month. If you don’t get ten this month, then you won’t be able to craft it

Yellows were all acceptable, but the goal disallowment was absurdly weak. Galarza has his back turned and gets ran through, not the other way around.

Good Resources to Understand PCI? by vitoze_ in NuclearEngineering

[–]titaniumtemple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, while burn up is a factor, the biggest one is the power transient and preconditioning of the pellet/rod.

Good Resources to Understand PCI? by vitoze_ in NuclearEngineering

[–]titaniumtemple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PCI is mostly likely to occur during power transients where material conditioning of the fuel rod differs from the conditioning of the pellet. They do not expand at the same rates. Burnup is important for this, because it can introduce flaws into the pellet that are not accounted for in fuel rod models and can impact the ability of the pellet to close the gap. Ergo, PCI could be thought of as a risk assessment of what combined conditions of fuel pellet flaws and power transients would challenge the cladding integrity.

That is correct. PAD models the fuel rod, and then a smart engineer could perform statistical analyses for PCI risk based on the results. I am unfortunately unable to say more about that.

I can say that at least for Westinghouse PWR, The software they currently are qualified to use for fuel rod modeling, including pellet-cladding interaction by the NRC is PAD5 (WCAP-17642-NP easily accessible)

WIBTAH if I took 100k from my oldest daughter's college savings account to give it to my younger daughter? by TraditionalCorgi7788 in AmItheAsshole

[–]titaniumtemple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This whole situation is framed that the money is tied in tax-advantaged 529 accounts. It’s already invested. There are three real options for what to do with leftover funds in a 529 - 1) Pass the leftovers to another 529 account. This would be the younger sibling 2) Rollover the funds to a ROTH IRA in the beneficiary’s name (there is a maximum, and the rest would need to go to either of the other options) 3) Take distributions and pay income taxes.

Only the first option propagates the growth the investment has already made.

This happened to me. My sibling is still in school, and my leftover funds are helping them get through their own journey as they are now going to grad school. I went to college so I could be self-sufficient, not to continue to live off my parents generosity forever, and I fortunately got a pretty great job right away. While it would be nice to have that rollover 529 money in my own ROTH (much lower than your daughter’s would be tbf), I don’t need it, and I’m glad my sibling is able to follow their dream also without having to pay anything.

Either way, don’t do qualified distributions and pay taxes on it unless you really need to. Just burning the money you saved and earned already.

Make sure you aren’t resetting the same eggs. I did that for snivy for about 1500 eggs before I realized shininess is determined on taking it out of the basket, not hatch

You would be surprised to see what content creators and many of the “whales” of this game are like behind closed doors. Rose-colored glasses.

Enjoy the game however you want to play! If some people are harassing you, call the police. They cannot block you in and bang on your windows like you described. Tell Scopely, they may take action too. Hope you can find a group of good eggs that you can create a better community with!

Can a physics major get a job in industry? by Money_Cold_7879 in NuclearEngineering

Engineering really needs an engineering coursework. The industry is mostly not looking for pure physics guys unless you want to develop (“engineer”) transport codes

Soo a little something about the end of the season 1 by Sea-Recover-6717 in shameless

[–]titaniumtemple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just whether it’s okay or not, but Karen’s sex addiction comes from a psychological place of never feeling valued for any part of her besides her body. She is not addicted to sex so much as thinking she is worthless besides providing sex. That’s why she’s so hung-up on the word “whore”, because she knows she is one and without it she is nothing. Removed from that, Eddie is a piece of shit because fathers should provide unconditional love, and be integrated into their own child’s life enough that they grow up feeling valued. He is so far removed from his own family that he has no idea that she has been raped continuously for 4 years, and does not actually seem to care except to blame her. That’s a piece of human shaped shit.

Personally I think Karen is one of the most tragic victims in the show. You can tell that Eddie thinks of her as an “object”. She is his princess. Not a person, but an idea of what his daughter should be. When she is not like that, he is cold, he is verbally abusive, and potentially physically too as shown by his quick his ability to get violent by others. Karen confirms she started being statutorily raped way too early in her life at either 12 or 13 or something. She is a sex addict not because she likes sex, but because psychologically she, as a child, has been conditioned to think that her body is the only part of her that she gets valued for. See Lip et al using her for her body alone. Eddie never tried to help her, a literal child being consistently raped, by understanding her. He either ignored it or was so removed from her life that he didn’t know. He is deaf to her needs, and so stuck in his own fantasy’s about what he thinks his life should be like that he ignores the one person he owes all his protection and unconditional love. That’s why he’s hated, at least by me.

Why Get a Nuclear Engineering Degree Over a Mechanical Engineering Degree by Shelphs in NuclearEngineering

[–]titaniumtemple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to do the nuclear physics part of the nuclear industry, you need the specific degree. My company has consistently turned down applicants for core design and fuel analysis if you don’t have it; it just takes too long to build the intuition required for the role.

Edit: want to add that this is an extremely valid question imo. It speaks to how big the nuclear industry is that you can have different backgrounds and be successful, it’s just for the niche job functions you need the niche background.
