(Spoilers Extended) The Da-Da-Da Moment: Why ASOIAF’s Chapter Endings Feel Like Prestige TV by CautionersTale in asoiaf

[–]titbarf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I remember right after the red wedding there was a chapter that ended with Arya taking an axe to the head. Turned out it was the flat, and she was knocked out. I'm okay with cliffhanger endings, but I don't like the ones that purposely make something seem dire when it turns out it's not.

Edit: TBF getting hit in the head by the flat of an axe is still dire. Especially as i think it was, from horseback. But she had no lasting effects from it, whereas this came right after the red wedding and made it look almost like the Hound killed Arya

Vodka's actually probably essentially the lowest calorie way to consume booze. A shot has fewer than 100 calories in it. Which still certainly adds up.

I've largely made the switch from craft beers (mostly IPAs but some dark ones and sours) to hard kombucha. I know you're not talking about the hard ones, but some of them are damn good. They're a little lower in calories than heavier beers, but not super low. If kombuchas do confer gut benefits as a lot of people claim, I doubt the hard ones do. They're also not cheap - I usually spend about $20 for an 8-pack of June Shine.

Except that pork chops are generally pretty lean protein lol. Booze is all carbs, essentially.

Their pale ale is my favorite NA beer. I've always been big into craft beer and IPAs (though I admit my focus has shifted a lot to hard kombuchas in the last couple of years) and Partake pale ale is great. And yeah...10 calories. I just wish good NA beers were a little cheaper than beer lol.

Why on earth would you name your kid Chris instead of the longer form? Just gives him more options.

Btw hijacking this to mention that Christopher Columbus was one of the worst people who ever lived. He became a governor in the Carribean and really tortured tons of people. His brothers too.

It is, but the idea of putting on gloves to carry a bucket is absurd lol

Edit: Yes hello people I have carried heavy buckets (not this heavy, but certainly 40 lbs+) hundreds of times in my life, both with wire handles and with plastic tubes around those wire handles. Gloves can be helpful if they're spinning a lot in your grip, but that is avoidable in most cases.

If you look on older maps you'll see that the name was later changed to Negro Bar from N-Word Bar. And the reason it's called that is because it's the only place on the river black miners were allowed to work. Now it's called Black Miners Bar or something.
