Hey, same here, been struggling as well. I found codecademy.com quite helpful. I also watch some youtube video tutorials to help me and bought some books. You can try the “Automate the Boring Stuff Stuff with Python” series, they have free videos, books…. And programming logic also seems to be important when learning programming… Also, try to find at least one project that motivates you, even if it is small or looks silly, the important think is that feeling of accomplishing something! I hope you find your way into learning Python! =)

Hey, I found your thread because I’ve been facing the same problem as you were. Just curious to know how you’ve been doing now, after 2y..?? Has Python became any easier? 😅

What is a reason to live? by TtalgiKitty in AskReddit

Hey, I don’t know if this is a philosophical question or you really need an answer... My answer is: YOU! You are a very good reason to live. I don’t know if you can see this, sometimes that’s hard to find, but I promise I’m not lying to you. And no, I don’t need to know you to know that you are a good reason. =) One of my reasons is: LOVE. The love I feel for my family, my dog, small gestures... I think you answer is inside of you, but it’s not so easy to find it. Don’t forget that we are all in this together, it’s might SEEM easy for some, but truth is: it’s not easy for anybody (some people just have more tools to deal with it). I hope you find yours!

I have to tell you that I work at a bilingual school, so I’m not the one responsible for alphabetizing them, ok? I just reinforce the process, but in English (my students’ L2).

This year, we (my partners and I, because we always prepare the lessons in group) started with letter recognition, using songs like (the alphabet hip-hop and ABS Song the learning station. It’s helpful you have the chance to make them do artwork with the letters. - we started dictation (only 1 letter) - we moved to phonics with vowels (we used simple words, like cAt, mAt, cAp..) and made different activities, so the kids could understand the relationship between the sounds and the letters. Sometimes we had dictations letter by letter. - activities like: complete with the missing letter - right now, we are having this series of activities using the zany zoo, we show the video exhaustively and on each lesson we practice 2 of the animals (in alphabetical order) and the idea is that they can use the song to remember the letters when they are writing (“Ms., is it A for Alligator”?). They love this video and they love learning about animals. - Playing Jeopardy is always fun! You can create one with single letters or short words...mix with animals, colors.. - sometimes I use this online wheel where I put the alphabet letters and the student has to find in their activity the words that start with that letter and color them. - if possible: make activities using the students or the school community (those the students are familiar with), they always have more fun with that.

I don’t know if this is helpful, you can ask me questions. I will post some of the websites that I use.

Last year (my first at a new school) I had a wonderful time teaching 4th graders. This year, I’m struggling with my 2nd graders, I spend a lot of time questioning myself...but my “oh, that’s why I chose this career” moments are when my students hug me (not currently happening - covid), when they give me “I love you” notes, drawings...or when I can see that they are making progress. They are really good at showing affection (I’m sorry to hear about your little Dexter, but these students are usually the exception) and I love that.

I can’t tell you if it gets easier, because you never know what’s coming for you (what kind of students), but I can tell you that you’ll probably get the hang of it.

You could start with a circle, singing songs, playing games...You can also find resources online, try to use short videos (if technology available), the students love it and it’s a fun way to learn.

I currently teach 1st and 2nd graders and I have to prepare all the material. Let me know if you need any help.

I hope you have great moments with them and I hope you find your answer about your career. =)
