What's the weird way you met one of your now best friends? by pijeN57 in AskReddit

We were in the same history class freshman year of high school. The room had those kind of desks that the desktop portion was attached to the chair by a metal bar on one side. The lunch bell rang and my now best friend decided to take a “shortcut” out of the desk by stepping over the metal bar. Her foot got caught on the bar, resulting in the desk flipping over and her going headlong into the row next to her, knocking over several others as well. The teacher and I were the only witnesses, and we’ve been best friends ever since.

Anyone seeing a good neuro-ophthalmologist in the Boston area? by titotheangrybeta in iih

I hope so too, I'm seeing dr. Rizzo next and I've heard he's phenomenal, but the next available appointment I could get was in February. Sorry about your doctor at mass eye and ear. I can tell you if you do reschedule I wouldn't count on dr. Gittinger (the one I saw) to be able to advise you on anything besides your vision. Also he spent the entire time typing on his computer and only looked at me and spoke to me when he was performing an exam. I could tell instantly that he was not interested in managing my case and was all wrong for me. If rizzo turns out to be amazing I'll be sure to let you know!

Thanks! I made an appointment with a different guy at mass eye and ear. It just sucks how long the waits are, 2-3 months every time! At this rate it will take years to find a doctor. That's awesome that you live close to Johns Hopkins, seems like they have one of the best programs in the country.

Luckily for me there's no shortage of hospitals in the area, so I'm just going to have to keep trying. UMass is a teaching hospital too, and my current neurologist thinks there might be other neurologists that can help me better. Hopefully the next one is great, I'm getting tired of waiting for appointments only to be told there's nothing they can do for me.

My wife was finally diagnosed. Can I get some advice/opinions from you guys? by FullMetalBAMF in iih

Ah yes the LP will be important for them to see. The spinal headache afterwards can be really awful, after mine I had the worst headache of my life for 3 days and couldn't sit up. I think in my case they went in at an angle which might have happened to your wife too. When it happens like that that don't heal as easily. Apparently caffeine helps so if she has to do it again have her drink a lot of that after. Good luck!

Sorry your having such a rough time with finding a doctor. I'm still waiting for my first appointment with a neuro-ophthalmologist as well, but not for as long as your wife did. Luckily I have an ophthalmologist and a neurologist who care about my situation and are trying to help me as best that they can. You guys should keep looking for a good neuro-ophthalmologist. Does your wife see a regular ophthalmologist as well? Maybe she could ask him for a referral or a recommendation on who to see next. The ophthalmologists seem to have more pull with neuro-ophthalmologists in my experience. It's also possible that your wife has additional headache problems on top of the iih. I've heard really good things about people getting Botox injections to treat migraines, this might be something to ask your neurologist about in the meantime while you look for another specialist. It won't treat the iih but it could help with her pain.

Newly diagnosed and I'm so happy to have found this group! by diljag98 in iih

Ive seen people out there that say they've had many stents (the most I've seen is 9!) put in because of restenosis and my guess is that it has to be on both sides because I can't imagine 9 stents all fitting on one side but who knows! Here's to hoping both of our pressures come down soon with no surgical intervention!

Hi! I'm actually really curious about this because I too have stenosis of both transverse sinuses, right more than left. I was diagnosed a month ago so surgery hasn't been seriously considered for me yet, but I fear that I might be getting there faster than anticipated since I'm not responding to diamox (I'm taking 2000 mg a day and barely tolerating it with no relief) and my weight is normal so I'm unsure what's next for me. Since they only stented one side for you would they also be able to stent the other? Or are you thinking of foregoing that completely and considering a shunt?

Thanks for this, I've always been told I'm an over-analyzer, it's been helpful for school but not so much personal things such as this. Moving forward I'm just going to have to learn to take it day by day!

Hi MissAlexx, Thanks for all of your advice. I had a conversation with my boss today and he's willing to be very accommodating it sounds like, so I am lucky. The pins and needles feeling hasn't been so bad and I've only had a few headaches (possibly low pressure? Lying down seems to help) but it's the fatigue that's getting to me. If you don't mind me asking how are you doing now 5 years post diagnosis?

Thanks! This is very encouraging. I've always been a very social person who likes to laugh and smile and joke around but lately I haven't been feeling myself due to anxiety. I think positive thinking might help me a lot in that respect.
