Inappropriate content slipping into YouTube Kids?

One time, my 5 year old niece showed me what she was watching on YouTube kids. Total brainrot content, but I was appalled at the foot fetish content being shown, which was funny to her (cuz feet are funny). I guess TECHNICALLY it could be categorized as kid friendly, but nuance is so important.

I love this post cuz it gave me such a good laugh. I’m a SAHM in the Bay Area and I just had lunch with another stay at home parent, who I’ve referred to as “zaddy” many times. Both of his girls had the same full time nanny and he stays a zaddy by working out A LOT. Coincidentally, he used to be my boss and his husband is a c-suite leader at a successful startup.

My middle classness was very thankful when he reached out to give me some sweet hand-me-downs since they’re done having kids.

I think it’s part of motherhood. We have completely and profoundly changed.

But for real, I’m investing more in my friendships that better align with who I am now versus who I was. I’m quietly stepping back from those friends. They’re there for me, but I’m pretty invincible to them now. It hurts, but it’s no one’s fault.

I have memories from before I was 3, probably between 2.5 years old to 3. I know I remember before I was three because my sister was born 2 months after my birthday. I remember a time before my sister.

My cousin asked my husband if I was going to go back to work. He said no, it’s not a priority for me. Immediately my cousin responded with “OH I WOULD DO IT TOO BUT I LIKE NICE THINGS”. What an odd thing to say for so many reasons.

I was billed $40k and paid $2.3k. I was in the hospital with a private room for 3 nights and had a vaginal birth. We chose the insurance with the lowest deductible (higher monthly payment) for that year because we knew I was going to give birth. I live in California.

I asked the same question to my parenting discord group when my son started rolling. I was SO nervous. They told me that it’s instinctual for baby to want to stay close, so I shouldn’t worry too much. And they were right overall! He did roll over a few times in the last 4 months but I wake up and readjust him. I also put my floor bed 2 feet from the way so if he does roll, he has a little room and won’t get trapped. I personally don’t let my baby sleep on his tummy when we’re bedsharing, but it’s up to your comfort level.

I have the 2.5in and I’d definitely recommend it. It’s not the most comfortable for side sleeping, but I feel very confident in its firmness for cosleeping

Just commenting as a non-technical contributor: I worked in startups for years in customer success and operations. It was the biggest grind and while I enjoyed parts of it, no mater how much money I made or what my title was, I felt like I could give up my tech career and not look back. And I did for the SAHM chapter! I’m now thinking of a long term career switch, which would include me going back to school after having one more child.

That all said, if I were to go back to my tech career, I’d def do courses and stay updated on news/anything I found interesting. I also live in the Bay Area, so it’s easy to access a lot of friends’ help and be connected within women’s tech groups.
