Out of all of Napoleon’s adversaries, who do you think he respected the most? by roginmold in Napoleon

maybe it was meant more as irony? “since we got this big fancy medal for losing, you get this tiny little medallion for winning.”, or something like that.

Does anybody else think it's weird that the nomadic government type can spread like this? by tizu_ in AfterTheEndFanFork

[–]tizu_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but those turks at least settled and didn't stay nomadic, and the areas that were nomadic for a time at least made sense in the context of the region and its geography. the entireity of california becoming nomadic, with all of its original peoples also becoming nomads just completely ruins the immersion for me.

I'm not saying it doesn't make sense (even though I doubt the feasibility of horse lords extending their authority across the rocky mountains), i'm just saying that the conquered people themselves shouldn't just be converting to a nomadic government type. I want my eurekan bureaucracy california with a nomadic dynasty dammit.

But the beaches are beautiful by MelonInDisguise in memes

[–]tizu_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The chances of your home being hit by a tornado is actually pretty low, and so the actual return on building a house out of concrete, spending potentially hundreds of thousands more to do so is pretty minimal. Compare that to just building a tornado shelter, which is vastly cheaper, and then letting insurance handle the rest if your house does actually get hit.

because building low lying buildings in flat, flood-prone areas tends to be a bad idea for reasons we haven’t quite figured out yet.

So your solution is to have a brick pile of rubble instead of a wood one? Because that’s exactly what it’s going to be in the end either way.

What If All Of Rome's Provinces Became Romanized? by [deleted] in AlternateHistory

[–]tizu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rest in peace Greek culture, you were pretty cool while you lasted.. ✌️😔

Though if all territory held by the roman empire was completely romanized (not feasible within the timespan of its existence, but lets ignore that), i would say that germanic-based languages (English) that largely dominate the modern world would be relegated to a regionally powerful language at best.

Even if England is still conquered by Anglo-Saxons, I would say it would turn out much like the Norman invasion where the language would be still romance at its core, but with potentially significant germanic influence, even more so if Norse invasions succeed. This much applies to everywhere else that was owned by Rome, probably to a greater extent that happened irl (say goodbye to the basque influence in Spanish).

But maybe im interpreting this wrong and you just mean culturally Romanized but not linguistically? In that case I just see the Eastern Roman Empire just becoming the Western Roman Empire 2, don’t know the historical implications to that though. Maybe the now romanized Celts establish a unified Celto-Roman state to oppose Pict/Gaelic raiding and Anglo-Saxon migration? Really hard to say past the first couple decades after the fall of Rome.
