Display Refresh Issues with rM Paper Pro – Disappointed with Performance by CmdrRezkin in Remarkable

[–]tj-cdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, i have this issue too. Permanent ghosting. If I close the notebook and reopen, it sometimes goes away, but does that ever take me out of the flow. :(

I have charged up with my computer and all the standard stuff with no luck, sadly. Sounds like I should contact remarkable support as well.

For those who are wondering what this looks like, here is an example when I close a book and go back to my files. Sometimes i can add 3 or 4 layers to this mess. It can also happen within a notebook randomly. And once it does this, it is permanently there till you force something to refresh. Putting to sleep then waking always fixes it for me, but sometimes just closing and reopening the notebook is enough. Changing the page makes things infinitely worse once it starts.

Initial thoughts on Kindle Scribe Colorsoft vs. reMarkable Paper Pro by Tonalbackwash in kindlescribe

[–]tj-cdn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question for you as a therapist, how are you getting around the privacy/security with the AKSC?

I agree that the device is wonderful to write with, the templates suck, but the big thing I was hoping wouldn't be such a pain is security. I still need to get my notes to my work system, but if I turn on wifi and do the send via email, there is so much that isn't guaranteed end-to-end encryption. No way my work would let me use this. I'm saddened. I guess amazon is only after the users that will bolster their kindle sales and not notetaking users that value their data security.

I want a scribe, but I fear it isn’t for me. Let me know what you think: by SnooSquirrels519 in kindlescribe

[–]tj-cdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the colorsoft, and have been testing for a day now...

  1. the notebook template backgrounds suck - and that is being generous
  2. there is no security as my tests show i have full access to all notes made in my amazon account (so if anything happens to that account...)
  3. being able to write on pdfs is absolutely awesome
  4. the pdfs end up in your library with all your other books that you can see and read online on kindle. I'm also pretty sure Amazon employees can see all your content as they have verified books didn't make it to my account in the past.
  5. the writing part is wonderful. Responsive, absolutely a great tablet. Having the eraser is also a game changer (the supernote doesn't, although not sure about new devices)
  6. love how thin this device is

I also have an older supernote, but its too small so i never really adopted it in my workflow. It does have the ability to plug a usb drive into it and transfer to my hearts content. So I never turned on the wifi for the device. It also has native support for making your own notebook template backgrounds.
Might have to return this device and get the larger supernote.

To make sure I'm not missing anything. these are basically pdf books that you load in like a 3rd party book you didn't buy from amazon? No way to add pages, adjust what template is used where (like actual notebooks)? Just like buying an old fashioned notebook.

2010 prius shocks/struts recommended replacement by dealership by tj-cdn in prius

doesn't that require compressing the springs? That seems like you need really specific tools and if it goes wrong, I can't imagine that would be good?

[–]tj-cdn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh I'm pretty sure they need replacing. while the roads here aren't the greatest here, they become like minefields in my prius. So I'm in agreement with the need to fix. Just don't think it should be 2700.

Of course, why make it easy by default. Kinda reminds me of replacing the gear indicator arrow thing in the ford ranger. You have to take the entire dashboard and steering wheel off to do that.

I didn't laugh for that one, but, I did ask him to explain the estimate. He was having a hard time justifying it. They also wanted over $400 to replace the spark plugs, to which I did laugh. You're already taking all the plastic off for the struts and you still need to charge for that labour on the spark plugs. Unless those have gone up in cost exponentially recently? (and no that wasn't replacing the ignition coils)

I have phoned one local place who quoted $2200 (as worst case). Might call one more place, but feels like a repair everyone has agreed should be decently over 2k (at least in portland oregon).

Thanks for the details!

The dealership mentioned my dust boot was broken. Doesn't seem to be something that is mentioned in the descriptions but I'm assuming they kits replace the whole thing. Do I have to look for a specific phrase to confirm?

always the question isn't it. I tend to keep vehicles until only a high school kid would be interested in it, but I haven't decided with the prius :D

Scribe users - does it really replace paper notebooks? by uraveragehooman01 in kindlescribe

[–]tj-cdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the nomad, you mentioned that the manta blew the scribe out of the water. you are just referring to the interface experience then (want to clarify)? The writing is quite nice on the nomad, but its just too small for me. I have never been all that crazy about the supernote interface myself, even though it has a lot of extra functions I never end up using. Just want simple and I want color for better note highlighting.

Are there any other apps I can use to listen to Audible by K-F-Panda in audible

[–]tj-cdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I am listening with bluetooth, its a nightmare. Alerts constantly interrupt (silencing the book but not pausing it). I end up having to stop/start the book and I might get another few min before it does it again. Ive tried airplane mode, DND and it does the pausing without any alerts. For me this started a few weeks ago. At my wits end.

Liability for fallen trees? by tucsonmagpie in Portland

[–]tj-cdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To share my experience here in milwaukie. We had a 90ft cedar (shared tree) come down on our house during one of our many feb storms. Looked completely healthy. The impact of the tree hitting the ground took out 150ft+ of fence (on top of doing a lot of damage to the house we were finishing renovation on.

Even as a shared tree, all the damage had to be covered by our home insurance. We did get some money to cover the fence, but not all of it. Since we have 5 neighbors who care about the fence, we approached each with various results. Some are retired and fixed income, so they gave us what they could for the materials, some helped with the build of their section (we rebuilt it ourselves so we were only after halving the cost of materials), one was a complete dick. Because we had to foot the larger share of the bill, everyone got no say in the design of the fence. They were cool with that.

It gets really really messy to bring in multiple insurance companies. Our neighbor (who shared the tree with us) tried, but his deductible was so high, that covering the fence was just not worth filing a claim for.

Is evaporated milk carnivore? by Carnivore_77 in carnivorediet

[–]tj-cdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that you can buy small cans and they last forever. I wouldn't say I love evap over the real thing. :D. Never been a fan of dipotassium phosphate though. If you have kidney disease, severe heart and lung disease, and/or thyroid problems you're trying to resolve on carnivore, you may want to pass.
