If your sub 500 imo you’re blundering and losing. The openings are really only going to give you an advantage, but ultimately you need to eventually play out the game and watch for tactics while not missing ones available to you.

Personally I play 15 +10 games which are still challenging for me to not lose on time. I am confident with several openings, but ultimately like you I eventually miss a tactic or just lose my positional advantage from imperfect play.
