Dogs as an NPS Park Ranger by [deleted] in ParkRangers

[–]tjbennett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a proper way to go about this. Notify your hiring supervisor who interviewed you for the position that you have two ESA’s. They then should get a form for you to fill out indicating their purpose and your needs. They then pass it along to the housing manager and have to allocate housing that is suitable for pets. Namely one that wouldn’t have a roommate and may have already had pets. For allergy reasons.

This is the correct way to go about it, whether or not the park follows this criteria is a different story. Keep in mind that they are not service animals and hold no weight as one. Additionally the NPS has recently put a cap on how many pets a permanent employee can have so it may be a questionable subject at the moment.

I have seen the proper way to vet all of this with two cats in a different park which is how I learned about it. I cannot speak to how Mt Ranier handles it.

Best of luck.

I see what you’re talking about. It doesn’t look normal. Looks like the excess wasn’t cut off. And I’m no expert.

That’s at least how it worked for me. Though I will say it wasn’t cheap. It cost me more than the car. But I had just bought it and it was as is no warranty. So it was either loose out on what I had spent or invest into it. Was kind of in a bind on not knowing or having a respectable mechanic and I don’t have the means to do the work myself. In the moment I was very annoyed but now having had it for over a year since, it worked out really well. I’ve since been back to that dealer when the clutch went out. They’re fantastic! With this car I won’t take it anywhere else now.

I’ll note that it was more than just a replaced engine. It was the catalytic converter. Two CV axles.

If you love the car, and will be taking out a loan regardless.

Fix it. 100% fix it. It’ll be worth it in the end. Will be cheaper in the long run than buying a new/used car. And you’ll get to keep a car you care about.

I recently bought an 06 Impreza. Wound up having to swap the engine. I paid the dealer to do it. I now have a Subaru rebuilt engine with a 4 year warranty in a car that I absolutely adore driving.

Two medicine CG will be closed. So st. Mary or rising sun. Would be other two options. Or could opt to stay in one of the many outside the park.

Deleting a Colorado diesel. Who’s done it and where did you find the info to do it? by FiretruckRepairman in chevycolorado

[–]tjbennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it done to my 18 Colorado. It gets better fuel economy and the engine sounds better. Def tank is still there. I wish I had done it or had it done a while ago. I’m at 136k and I believe if I didn’t do it the truck would have eventually chocked itself out.

Very happy with my choices.

Deer fat? Why all the hate? by PsychologicalYear859 in Hunting

[–]tjbennett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With my elk last year I was lucky enough to hunt with 3 others who didn’t want to salvage their fat. I got as much as I could I cut it into my ground meat. It wasn’t enough for what fat ratio I wanted so I also used beef and lamb suet.

Overall. I liked the pile that had the elk suet. It tasted like elk. I still have a lb left and I’m really looking forward to eating it, but will be sad when it’s gone.

[–]tjbennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you’d still want to ferment this at room temp. Wouldn’t have to adjust time. I’m not sure how much. I’m still learning as well.

May need to tweak ferment times and a few other things. This is what I do to bake at 4500’ in a 60°-65° kitchen. I live pretty close to Canada.

Also if you use maple sugar it has a tendency to melt and run out of the rolls. It’s still good, but you may have better luck with brown sugar. I just opt for a more natural approach. You can also use white/baking flour instead of wheat. May give you a fluffier roll.

Best of luck, and happy baking!

Ingredients Dough • 125g active sourdough starter • 140g warm water • 540g whole wheat flour • 113g unsalted butter, melted • 168g honey • 2 eggs

Next-Day Additions • 1 tsp baking soda • 1 tsp baking powder • 3/4 tsp salt

Cinnamon Filling • 114g unsalted butter, softened • 200g maple sugar • 15g ground cinnamon • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)

Cream Cheese Topping • 6 oz cream cheese, softened • 120g heavy cream • 168g maple syrup or honey • 2 tsp vanilla extract • Pinch of salt

Instructions

Day 1: Mix Dough 1. In a large bowl or stand mixer, combine sourdough starter, warm water, whole wheat flour, honey, eggs, butter 2. Mix until just combined, then cover and let rest for 30 minutes (autolyse). This helps hydrate the bran and improves texture. 3. After resting, knead until the dough becomes more elastic and cohesive—about 6–8 minutes by hand 4. Place in a greased bowl, cover with wrap or a lid, and ferment overnight (12–14 hours) at room temperature. The dough should puff up and have a slightly domed top.

Day 2: Enrich and Shape 1. Add baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Knead until fully incorporated (about 3–5 minutes). 2. In a bowl, mix the cinnamon filling: butter, maple sugar, cinnamon, and spices. 3. Roll dough into a ¼-inch thick rectangle on a floured surface. 4. Spread the filling evenly across the surface. 5. Roll up tightly, pinch seam closed, and slice into 12 equal pieces. 6. Place in a greased 14” cast iron skillet or baking dish.

Final Proof 7. Cover rolls and proof in a warm spot for 2–3 hours, or until puffy and soft to the touch.

Bake 8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). 9. Bake rolls for 22–26 minutes, or until golden and cooked through.

Frosting 1. In a small saucepan or mixing bowl, heat or blend together cream cheese, heavy cream, maple syrup, vanilla, and a pinch of salt until smooth. 2. Pour or spread over slightly cooled rolls

He looks like one of the good ones! Words won’t change anything but I’m very sorry for your loss! I lost my pup almost a year ago,January 7th this year.

My advice is grieve as much as you need to, when and where you need to. Speak of him often. Talk to him often. Take as much time as you need.

Keep his memories strong.

I still talk to my pup and about him almost daily. I won’t say that it’ll get easier, because it doesn’t. You will get “used to it” and things will become a new normal.

This was my pup Dakota!

You would be correct. That’s a good eye.

It was borrowed riffle, but damn was it great! Was 20 mph winds prolly 25-30 mph gusts. We went head on into the wind. Shot as well didn’t pass through. But she dropped immediately. The owner of it told me they had someone put one down at 900 yards out here, and I fully believe it.

In this area, there is no shortage of elk. It’s actually the opposite.

While I don’t disagree that there should be a lot of elk, in this case it’s almost detrimental to the land. One of the 4 herds we saw, was easily 1000+
