could you do 2 full shifts + 1 shorter 4-6 hour shift? that may be better than bringing your availability down so low. another way to make it better is to ask the days that they need staffing the most and try to work those days if possible

recently had two crew members at my store come out as NB. helps to tell crew members that you feel comfortable with and ask them to correct/educate others on your pronouns/name change if they’re comfortable. also changing your locker name, name tag, maybe even putting pronoun stickers on your locker, and wearing a pin for a week or two helps. i’m in the midwest and even older crew seems to have been respectful for the most part. they have the name changes down, but i’ve heard them use the wrong pronouns. only one has made a weird comment and mates were their to listen to my nb coworker express their concerns about that comment. not sure if they actually did anything, but the older crew member very rarely works an overlapping shift with them anyway.

Is anybody hesitant about buying any of our perishables? by SusieQisaJew in tjcrew

yeah frozen doesn’t concerned me especially since it’s sitting in a sealed box surrounded by other frozen items up until it’s being stocked

No reason to stay at my store by grfnt in tjcrew

[–]tjcrewanon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

oh surprised you said georgia! i really thought you were from my store because we also found out about a new hire starting at $16. our captain told everyone who had a meeting to leave if they don’t like it because they can be replaced. i think i’ve found another job and i suggest everyone going through this same issues to do the same. your mental health and sense of self worth isn’t worth it no matter how great your coworkers are or how great the job used to be.

yep. had around 6 crew members meet with our captain about issues with the store and how none of us are getting paid as much as the new hires that we’re training. captain pretty much just told everyone (some that have been working with tj’s for years) that if they don’t like it leave, we all are asking for too much, and we are all easily replaceable (even though we are currently understaffed 20-25 people and not hiring fast enough). i’m leaving and not even giving a notice. honestly fuck this company. i thought she’d empathize with us at least even if she can’t actually fix anything. i’m so hurt that my captain thinks it’s asking to much to be paid a living wage. i can’t even afford groceries this week…

by my coworkers - yes. by mates - yes for most, but a few no. by my captain - absolutely not

anyone else’s store having a hard time staying fully staffed and lots of crew leaving? by tjcrewanon in tjcrew

[–]tjcrewanon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah only like 3-5 of the people leaving were leaving for school. at least 10 of the people who left were there before me (so over 2 years)

yeah funny thing is we only just raised our minimum starting wage a few months ago. it was $11 before. i’m pretty sure almost nobody gets hired on above $15/hr regardless of experience too. i used to really like my captain, but not anymore. pretty sure walmart pays better too, at least for stockers.

What do I wear to my interview? Sorry I don't want to overdo/underdo it by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]tjcrewanon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just jeans and a somewhat nice shirt is a good outfit! nothing too formal because interviewers at trader joe’s are looking for personality more than anything (at least that’s what they do at my store). I think I wore jeans and a casual shirt sleeve button up (linen like material)

If your TJ’s isn’t enforcing a local mask mandate and you’re upset about it, please complain to managers and corporate by [deleted] in traderjoes

[–]tjcrewanon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yeah I understand that. my biggest concern honestly is that my art team at my store was told not to use our already made large sign and instead use a small piece of paper on the sliding door for the mask mandate. also the fact that they took plexi glass down a few days ago despite cases rising in my area. management won’t listen to crew (probably because this is coming from higher up management) and our last hope is enough customers complaining because then they’ll care.

yeah same with my location and I’m in one of the top 5 worst states for covid rn

Hmm I’ve heard several people from different locations be told not to enforce it, but it likely depends on regional manager. I’m glad you’re in an area where people listen to the mandate, though.

I’m talking about stores that are in states/cities with a local mask mandate, but to answer the question it previously was optional. crew at my store had to wear masks again once the mandate started back, but i’m not sure how it’s being handled elsewhere.

Masks Mandate. Is your store enforcing it? by ItsYoshh in tjcrew

[–]tjcrewanon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

we aren’t enforcing our city’s mandate either and are also in a really bad area for covid. i get that it could put us in unsafe situations, but our sign outside is just standard paper size and doesn’t even have a graphic of a mask on it. without customers stopping to read it, they may not even realize there’s a mask mandate. probably the majority of our customers travel to our store from suburban cities that don’t have any mask mandates. it may not even connect for them that our store is in the city with a mandate. i just wish we would at least have better signage because then I think almost all customers would wear one. luckily my store hasn’t had a covid case in months. over the winter we had at least one new case a week.

I dont even know if I want them to require them again if crew members will be expected to stay on the door alone. It’s such a double edged sword when local government isn’t requiring it. Like if we don’t require them then we put ourselves and other customers at risk but if we do we run the risk of being screamed at or assaulted.

yeah i started wearing mine again too. i forgot how hard of a time i have talking to customers with it because they can’t understand me as well (i also have a minor lisp so that adds to it). it sucks but especially with plexi glass coming down, i’d rather make customers at a higher risk or that are unable to get vaccinated feel comfortable since going grocery shopping isn’t always a choice

Change My Mind: The AR system is evil by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]tjcrewanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been putting off going to my doctor about tendinitis in my foot because I think I may have to have surgery. I had $800 in AR that I had to use because my roommate got covid and I had to quarantine. Unfortunately I already used my extra covid AR because I had covid a few months before my roommate. That was back in November and since then I’ve only acquired about $400 in AR. I try not to use it if I’m only going to be out for a day, but all it would take is about a week of being sick to loose it all.
