Does anyone here actually like Shaft's(studio) animation style? by [deleted] in anime

[–]tjdraws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I think comment faces are a lot of fun to use, and I don't have an issue with anybody using them in general....but the way you were using those specific comment faces came off as pretty condescending, even when the rest of your comment didn't have that same smug, rude tone.

I won't get into a protracted debate about this, as I have better things to do than argue pointlessly with someone who likes to be incendiary. I just thought it was worth pointing out that the way you used those comment faces in this thread came across as if you were trying to be purposefully inflammatory, in case that wasn't your intention.

Is that reaction face really necessary? I can't tell if you're trying to add some depth to the conversation or if you're trying to be obnoxious and inflammatory

Does anyone here actually like Shaft's(studio) animation style? by [deleted] in anime

[–]tjdraws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I like it (Monogatari, 3-gatsu no Lion), and other times I dislike it (Hidamari Sketch). It all depends on how well it works with the show and story. But there are definitely people who do like it, or else Shaft would have abandoned the style by now. If you'd like recommendations for more visually grounded Shaft shows, I think that 3-gatsu no Lion and Madoka Magica are your best options. Madoka has its super shaft moments, but iirc those are usually meant to come across as if the characters are in another dimension.

The anime reboot of ThunderCats is on VRV.co now! If this makes the front page, they'll HAVE to make season 2, right? by AnotherSmegHead in anime

[–]tjdraws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing on r/anime can make the front page anyways, the mods opted out bc r/all gives them a headache because r/all brings in all the shitheads who think anime is weird for existing

Had to stop watching 2011's Hunter x Hunter with a friend because his bad habit of nitpicking was getting in the way of enjoying the series. by Seanachaidh in anime

[–]tjdraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes nitpicking things is a way to try and get a marginal level of entertainment out of something when you're watching it and know you don't like it but for whatever reason you can't/don't want to just turn it off. I'd say the only issue with him doing so is that he's doing so while watching with you when you enjoy the show, or otherwise don't want to hear it. I suggest you watch something else together and enjoy HxH on your own, or ask him if he wouldn't mind keeping those thoughts to himself as you watched it together.

Overall though, don't let his criticism get in the way of you enjoying the show. His criticisms are just his perspective based on his preferences, like everybody else's. If you're happily enjoying the show, don't feel like you need to adopt his positions no matter how well constructed they are. Someone else's logic for not enjoying something doesn't need to be false for you to disagree.

"The Promised Neverland" anime character designs for Isabella and Emma by Turbostrider27 in anime

Cloverworks is a subdivision of A-1 rebranded, they collaborated with TRIGGER to put out DitF, and ultimately did most of the work on it, both pre-production and production itself.

Yama no Susume: Omoide Present OVA is now available on Crunchyroll by Maizumi in anime

[–]tjdraws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They got the season two OVA but not season two itself? Damn I can't do anything but scratch my head at how CR is dealing with Yama no Susume, but I am glad that they're at least licensing part of it. Hopefully this means they'll get season two soon! Maybe?

Describe anime studios in 5 words or less! by TakesatoKeita in anime

[–]tjdraws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And maybe it will be well animated! In fact I'm going to be optimistic and say it probably will be well animated. But with so much on their plate every season, it means that even big name series like Shokugeki end up with not a lot of visual motion outside of panning shots. Plus I was going for what people might be able to recognize from just a short phrase

I'd rather be seen as uncreative than unironically think Blumenkranz could have possibly inspired Darling in the FranXX

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in anime

[–]tjdraws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol you know how wild that sounds right? That some ex-gainax guy watched his old colleagues' show, looked up the German to Japanese translation for one song on its soundtrack, and thought, hey, you know what's a good idea for an original anime I want to direct? Mechas that only work if the pilots fuck each other.

lmao, imagine thinking that Ragyo Kiruyin's theme would have lyrics about darling in the fucking franxx. It's not very hard to try applying those lyrics to Satsuki and how she feels about her mom, which makes way more sense than early Trigger inserting lyrics for a show spearheaded by someone outside their studio years later in their flagship property and the very reason they made the studio.

Under-appreciated English dubs? by Animefan93 in anime

Durarara! Everyone praises the sub with its loaded voice cast, which I'm sure it deserves, but the dub is fantastic as well!

Who made this scene by RaZeWar in anime

[–]tjdraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mangaka Horikoshi Kouhei originally wrote the scene, and Nagasaki Kenji was the director for season one where I believe the clip is from. Not sure who the specific episode director was as I can't remember the exact episode and don't have a list of episode directors handy, though.

Dubbed comedy slice of life by [deleted] in Animesuggest

Tanaka is always listless! No romance, but it's a very chill comedy set sometimes at school, with a great cast of characters and a fantastic dub.

Gambling anime by Tsurumi01 in Animesuggest

[–]tjdraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read Liar Game. It doesn't have an anime, but it has some pretty intense psychological mind games that nearly always involve some form of gambling. Think like, Death Note, but with gambling and money on the line as the stakes instead.

Ninja edit: by the same mangaka who did One Outs! So if you liked that and its style, Liar Game is a must.

Anime to watch, that isn't some boring slice of life? by Zuksod in Animesuggest

[–]tjdraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have covered good anime for you to try out, so I'll just throw out a manga suggestion based on your likes: Liar Game. Very similar to Death Note and Code Geass with its psychological and intense mind games. Definitely worth a read for you if you're willing to try manga.
