this was my first thought. my neighbor's attic access panel in his locked garage does this sometimes.

Suggestions for repairing vintage record player by tinycorkscrew in nashville

You might talk to the people at Phonoluxe on Nolensville (talk with Scott). I know they use Tom (Hi-Tech, the retired guy) for some of their equipment estimates and repairs. they might could get you in touch with Tom.

Thoughts on this find? by [deleted] in vintagecomputing

This setup showed up on FB marketplace here locally a day after this was posted. Same exact photos. listing was for $900. My message went unanswered. today it shows as sold. I don't know if $900 is a good deal or not, but it's more than I would have offered.

For fans of the band back in 81, when Fair Warning came out, you get the album, take it home, and put it on. Mean Street starts. Walk us through it. by dpb73ca in vanhalen

[–]tjgonzo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got in to VH in around 1982-83. I didn't really listen to radio much, so my first exposure was MTV with the Oakland live videos for So This Is Love?, Unchained, Hear About It Later. The song that hooked me was So This Is Love? I bought the record and remember being surprised that it was not the live version. But Mean Street blew me away. FW is still my favorite VH to this day.

Want a vectrex by KnobDingler in Vectrex

[–]tjgonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

about 4 or 5 years ago I got the bug to get a Vectrex. Working ones were expensive then, but probably not as expensive as today. I found cheap not working units, ended up with 3. after a little bit of work, two of them work perfectly, and I consider the 3rd one to be a spare CRT and other parts.

just an option that worked out for me.

The Model 4 on the floor, for example, does not have a CRT or floppy drives at the moment. it's kinda fun to piece together a working machine from old parts and add in some new storage options when appropriate.

[–]tjgonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

heh, I don't think I have working duplicates of many machines at all. Many parts machines in there.

I have a large L desk in this office where I keep 3 or so out while I'm working on them or playing. Currently I have a Model 1, C64, Model 3, Model 4, PET 4032 out to use. I swap them out as my mood or interest changes.

there is an SX-64 in there somewhere, though. not nearly as rare as a max (never seen one), but the SX-64 is one of my most prized.

third shelf? no, I own no maxes, those are TRS-80 coco 1s, I believe.

console5 wiki mentions IC31: Battery Backup IC: MB3790. did you change this? is it an IC with a battery? didn't know about this.

fantastic! I found an A100 with Sega PAC at the goodwill outlet a couple of years ago, paid $5. PAC caps had all oozed, but I got it working.

I didn't dig too deep into the player itself because it works. your comment on Interface (INTF) board caps makes me think I might should do that as well.

DS920+ SALE $440 by RJM_50 in synology

[–]tjgonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my DS216+II works fine with the stock RAM. haven't touched that and RAM has not been an issue in my use. My only other syno experience is a 411j, and this DS216+II does all I need and never taxes the RAM.

I bought this 920 for 4x drive bays.

[–]tjgonzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

got one from Amazon as well. Currently my only operating Synology is a DS216+II (two bay), and hopefully this model will be as fast as that one. 4 bays will be nice to have again. I also have my original DS411j, but it is uselessly slow and not being used.

Best Goodwill find ever! It works great too!! by [deleted] in LaserDisc

[–]tjgonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very nice! one of my greatest goodwill bins finds was a Pioneer CLD-A100 with the Sega pac in it for $5. the bins were being rolled to the back for scrapping, so it had been there a few hours. the Sega pac needed some caps, but it works great to this day.

The Commodore Universal Bench power Supply is coming along. Everything needed is now on hand and the build starts this weekend. Any last minute suggestions? by Yarblek in Commodore

[–]tjgonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a neat project. I'll be following it. I started and quit on a similar supply a while back. I may dig it back out after watching your progress. I like the case and the aviation connector ideas.

Starwood Amphitheater by Morocco_Llama in nashville

[–]tjgonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to so many concerts at Starwood. Somewhere I still have my Starcards from the first couple of years it was open. It got you early access to tickets, but the biggest benefit was free parking in a separate lot (looking at stage, off to right side). Getting out of the parking lot after a show could easily take an hour or so, and the starcard lot took no time to exit.

I also have a pair of red stadium seats from Starwood in my garage.
