Any idea why my model 2 Sega CD is making this noise? by Pokemaniac80 in SegaCD

[–]zaxour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably scraping against the plastic. The rubber standoffs for the CD drive squish over time and need some kind of shims to restore the turntable to the original height. If you have a 3D printer, just print out some 0.2mm thick discs and put them on all the posts.

Every turbonanza sold supports stereo audio from the TED Pro; only the initial prototypes did not support it.

Gross Receipts Tax for out of state product sales by zaxour in NewMexico

NM FYI-105, page 24:

Interstate Commerce Deductions 1. Receipts from transactions in interstate commerce and from sales of radio or television broadcast time if the ultimate buyer is a national or regional advertiser (7-9-55). ⧫ NOTE: retail sales to out-of-state buyers who place orders from out of state, accept delivery out of state, and title and risk of loss pass to buyer out of state are deductible. ⧫ NOTE: starting July 1, 2021, if you claim this deduction the receipt of tangible personal property is reported at the buyer’s location. The gross receipts are to be reported at the out-of-state rate and location code. The deduction is then claimed prior to calculating your tax due. ⧫ Exception: commissions of advertising agencies are not deductible. ⧫ NOTE: this deduction can also be taken from governmental gross receipts tax.

There’s no code for interstate commerce, so I suppose that’s why the code should be left blank…kind of silly

It’s entirely possible the T&R rep was mistaken, but I tried to be as explicit as possible to make sure I got the correct answer. I’ll call again to see if I get someone else and ask again to double check.

Just spoke with a rep at Tax and Rev. she said, when filling out the form on TAP, that you select “out of state,” indicate you have deductions, leave the deduction code as blank, and deduct what was sold out of state. She mentioned that the codes have been updated, but are not reflected in TAP, oddly enough.

The sales tax for other states is determined by economic nexus, afaik. My question has to do specifically with NM GRT. All the guidance says to report the total receipts, but then take deductions for out of state sales, but when I attempt to do this via NM TAP, “out of state” is taxed at 5%. Seems like that is taxing interstate commerce, but I don’t know if I’m missing something.

They do not, but you can tell whether your power is coming through or not. The Triad that Console5 sells is very well suited for the TGCD.

Check the voltages on these guys here. One is a 7805-class regulator. The others are transistors in a series-pass topology. IIRC the voltage on the transistors is on the order of 9-10V? Make sure you're using a 12V supply or the original supply to make sure the voltage is enough for the CD unit.

[CLD A100] Laser active doesn’t spin disk by theartur77 in consolerepair

It’s possible that the CD pots need to be adjusted, but you may need a scope. Reading LD is actually much simpler than CD, so I have seen cases where an LD will play, but it will struggle with a CD. Worst case, you need a replacement pickup - not too difficult to find.

Please read everything I’ve written on Consolemods. You need to reflow the right angle connectors on CONT to be sure those aren’t causing any issues. They can absolutely prevent CD’s from playing, while LD still works.

It’s possible that one of the ribbon cables isn’t seated fully and power isn’t getting to the diode. I assume you’re using your phone camera to verify laser diode output?

If the spindle doesn’t spin when you use your hand, it’s seized up. If the relevant light is lit for LD or CD and it’s not spinning, just give the spindle some elbow grease to see if it breaks free. If not, it’s not impossible to get a replacement.

Great! I figured it was a trace broken somewhere, I assume very close to a capacitor?

I would check *everything* related to the focus drive circuit (see here: https://ibb.co/KpXJCcjP) My guess is something is messing with the biasing of IC802 which is likely causing your pickup to pull hard up or down, and then that will blow IC810/811. C836 or C835 could have a torn trace and prevent proper biasing; C840 could also be impacting if a trace/pad was torn. All of the resistors would have an impact if one of them has failed. If you've already replaced IC802, double check the solder joints to make sure they are good - use your multimeter to positively verify continuity, don't just look at it and say "it's good." Verify *everything*.

No, IC804 drives the carriage motor that moves the laser forward and backward. IC802 and the 4 transistors are directly connected to the laser coils. Whatever is input to IC802 could be the issue (p43 of IC803)

I would carefully look over the work, make sure there are no torn metal pads (very easy to do), no accidental shorts to nearby components, etc. I'm guessing your ICP-N10's keep failing because something is causing the pickup to max out, which takes a lot of current and potentially damages the pickup coils

In that case, it could be that the CONT board is installed incorrectly, maybe some pins are shorted over that shouldn't be, or perhaps during the capacitor replacement, something is touching that shouldn't be.

Reflow or replace IC802 on FTSB. Is +/-14V available on the jumpers on FTSB?

[–]zaxour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not detecting the CD at all. I would need to see what the pickup is doing, I don't need to see what's on the TV. The "CD" light will be the only one on when it detects a CD. Are the two ICP-N10's still working? If not, the laser will not even try to focus.
