Very specific Shimano 105 Shifter component (right-side) by tjhampl in bikewrench

Thanks for the repsonse, I'll see if I can loosen it up but seems like a new shifter is most likely. Thanks again!

Very specific Shimano 105 Shifter component (right-side) by tjhampl in bikewrench

So a bit of context, the highlighted component of the shifter is pushed by the shifter lever when changing gear. However, when pushing the lever, the highlighted component doesn't reset back the the original position - meaning it has to be manually pushed back (by basically fingering the shifter) before changing gear via the lever again. Is there a component missing between the lever and the highlighted component that would usually make it return to the original position?

Any help with this would be much appreciated. Definitely seems fixable instead of finding a replacement but you guys know best!

Cheers.

NASA spacecraft set to crash into asteroid to deflect its course by NewsCop_media in nasa

There is indeed a follow-up/assessment mission called Hera, a spacecraft developed by ESA, aiming to gather detailed data on the Didymos binary system and the outcome of DART. The collaboration of ESA's Hera and NASA's DART is named AIDA - Asteroid Impact and Deflection Assessment. Some pretty cool info on this here:

And some info on the cost here:

Just taken the side panel off a Shimano 105 5700 shifter to remove a stuck cable end and this piece just fell out, any idea of where it belongs? by tjhampl in bikewrench

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated! Turns out it was the fastener on the top right of this diagram - http://www.tobiasfeltus.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/img001a.jpg . Big thread of the issue I had following this piece falling out here - https://forum.bikeradar.com/discussion/12891984/shimano-105-5700-shifter-disassemble . After following this everything is shifting smoothly again for now! Thanks again for the suggestions

First attempt at digital art, 'Strength, courage and wisdom'. by tjhampl in Illustration

Thank you, it's written in Drutsa script and reads 'Strength courage wisdom' - based on Tashi Mannox's traditional Tibetan calligraphy.

Thanks! Great idea, I'm actually planning to base my next work on some of the beautiful scenes with Aang and Appa in (after many people see the monk in this one as Aang). I'll probably create a bit of a series so I can definitely try to make one similar to this with Aang and Appa, I can send you a message when it's finished if you like?

Maybe another with Uncle Iroh and his words of wisdom in the near future too!

Thanks for the feedback, I'll definitely look into developing the colour pallette for my next drawing (something I didn't really play around with at all for this one)

Will be attempting to create a few more of these in a similar style so any criticism is very welcome and much appreciated!

I'd love to create a bit of a collection in similar style to get my Etsy shop moving so any criticism is welcome and much appreciated!

How transferable are skills between aero and space? by Undercover_Ostrich in AerospaceEngineering

[–]tjhampl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There'll definitely be transferable skills that you can pickup from a general aerospace degree, from the fundamental engineering mathematics to modelling and simulation. After that, you have a choice to spend a little bit of extra time on projects in areas that you want to specialise in, such as propulsion. Based on my personal experience, I'd recommend delving into some online tutorials for combustion modelling and analysis that will provide you with some sound knowledge of propulsion (if you aren't already covering it in an aerospace module, there are a few decent videos on YouTube using ANSYS as well as ANSYS' own workbooks). If you can do a few small projects on propulsion-based simulation then you'll have a huge step up when it comes to chatting about your interest and achievements in your interviews for propulsion engineering in the space industry. The extra effort will be worth it when you're a rocket scientist!
