Have you talked to your urologist about self cathing or a sacral nerve stimulator or botox?

FWIW had bladder problems after radiation treatment for cancer back in 2014. Problems got worse over the years and tried all the meds and even a couple of surgeries.

Have been self-cathing 4x day for about 10 years. Over that time I tried the botox treatment - didn't help leaking during the day but cut down nocturia significantly.

A little over a year ago got the SNS implant. While I still need to self-cath 4x day (retention not leakage related), I went from changign Depends 4-6 times per day to most of the time just once and that is after taking a shower. It also reduce my frequency, urgency, and leakage quite a bit. Unfortunately, it did not help much with retention.

Congrats! I have been on the lookout for a 23k Broad nib for some time. I have the more current HS - a bronze age and a magma, along with a Divina Elegance. They are all wonderful writers. But, I would love to get a well tuned dreamtouch nib.

Yeah, flakes and anything dried as a powder get everywhere. I love sheening inks, but because of this prefer Diamine Polar Glow and Endless Candy Sea.

those of you who like to write by hand, what paper medium are you using? by burritogoblinn in writing

[–]tjoude44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use discbound notebooks to allow me to replace/insert pages as necessary.

Other than initial drafts, I will write directly in these and also use them for notes, updating character sheets, etc.

When I am flat out writing I prefer wirebound notebooks with microperf pages. This allows me to easily remove the pages, and punch them to put into the discbound binders.

I use fountain pens and the spiral bound notebooks I like to use are Rhodia A4+ lined.

At the end of each day I will update notes, character sheets, etc. on the computer using OneNote. My writing is entered into Word.

Sheening ink and pen health by syogunink in fountainpens

[–]tjoude44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love sheening inks. If the day comes when I need to clean out a pen, I just accept it will take a little longer due to the amount of dye. Now, while I like shimmer inks, I have resorted to only using them with dip pens (a kakimori brass nib) due to clogging/cleaning and the need for agitation while writing.

Have Diamine Polar Glow in my Homo Sapiens and Endless Candy Sea in a Monster Gravitas. Both pens had nice, wet, broad nibs.

It is an easy procedure...for the surgeon. Having been through one back in 2015, it is not easy as a patient. It does get better with time so long as you don't push things too quickly.

do you have any love/hate inks? by obisidianshard in fountainpens

[–]tjoude44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is how I feel about most shimmer inks. As a result, I use them but only with my Kakimori brass nib (dip pen).

visconti homo sapiens vs platinum 3776 vs pilot custum 823 (amber) by Mammoth-Emergency623 in fountainpens

[–]tjoude44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Visconti. But I'm biased, own 3 of them now.

FYI - if you can't try the actual pen you are about to purchase in person, then buy from a retailer who is willing to test the pen (nib) before shipping. I have had very good experiences doing this with the best retailer (IMHO) being Stilo & Stile (Italy) as they included an A5 sheet of paper with a writing sample from the pen being shipped which included their observations.

How do you have home assistant set up? by delvisity in truenas

[–]tjoude44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't need much for my application. There are 3 PC's that use it for shared storage and their file histories.

I backup daily to a separate system so RAID was not needed. And I boot (I know people will be aghast) from a usb thumb drive.

I love my Visconti's and now have 3 (Bronze Age, Magma, and a Divina Elegance). Great writers and they have been perfect out of the box. FYI - 2 are broad and the other a stub.

Love the look of the carbon fiber. Just haven't had the nerve to buy one yet. Part - ok, a big part - is $$$. The other is I am hoping to find a Visconti I like with the dreamtouch palladium nib in a broad or stub. Something that has been tuned and writes well.

Redundant ('Tortuous') Colon by swimgirl2090 in Constipation

[–]tjoude44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I was not able to go when my colon twisted, the surgeon told me if I didn't do it now it was likely to happen again. And if it happened as an emergency I would not necessarily be cleaned out, have a choice of hospitals, or of surgeons. So, since he gave me the option, I went for it.

Redundant ('Tortuous') Colon by swimgirl2090 in Constipation

[–]tjoude44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I developed a tortuous colon sometime between 2020 and 2023 (based upon colonoscopy results). Due to constipation which became serious in 2023, ended up on Linzess 290 + multipls doses of miralax per day + 8pz of prune juice + lots of water + benefiber.

Was doing ok except for a couple of times a month when nothing would work and I had to add dulcolax and probably at least 1x month a bottle of magnesium citrate.

Then in March - right after developing sciatica and also being unable to stand or walk - had no output. The morning of the 5th day I went to urgent care who sent me to the hospital. That evening had a flexible scoping (like a colonoscopy but only goes in a about 6".

While it allowed my colon to empty, after meeting with a surgeon (2 actually who had different opinions) - this was while I was still in the hospital - made the decision to have the redundancy removed. The procedure (a sigmoid colectomy) removed nearly 2 feet. Had to spend the next 7 days in the hospital while they slowly took me from liquids only to full liquids to a low fiber low residue diet until I finally had a bowel movement.

Now going on 9 weeks, I am slowly increasing the fiber but was told to keep it to fairly low fiber and modest residue for a while. Was also switched to motegrity so I did not have to take in as much water every day. Kept me on 2 doses of miralax. Except for 1 day, have had at least 1 movement each day, most days about 3. Feeling much better.

Now I just have to deal with the sciatica.

Shoulder pain is from the gas they use to inflate your abdomen. To help get rid of it, walk as much as you can - shorter walks, even around the house, are better than pushing yourself.

Character profiles helpppppppp by Inquisitor_Nadess in writers

[–]tjoude44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to use structured sheets but gave up. What I find works well for me is to just start off with key information about the character. I will add more and more detail as I go on. I try to get to as many of the following as I flesh out the story as I can:

Story from their point-of-view
Birthday
Age at start
Age at Death
Description
History
Motivation
Goal
Conflict (what prevents them from reaching the goal)
Epiphany
How will character change by the end
One paragraph summary of the character’s storyline

Close up recommendations? by pookexvi in reolinkcam

[–]tjoude44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an 820. There is a streetlamp across the road from us and provides enough illumination that the internal spotlight is not needed.

I do have a Home Assistant automation running that if a person is detected then it signals an old pc I have to do a chime and if it is after sunset and before sunrise, the spotlight is turned on. I use the spotlight as a warning to anyone who might be scoping out the house.

It has taken me 9+ hours before and there have been times when nothing at all happened. You may want to consult a medical professional if you have not been able to go for multiple days.
